View Full Version : Ticketing ballot question

Having now made two ballot applications on behalf of my group, I'm a little confused.
The form asks you for an area preference. We're West Lower Gold season ticket holders. Our season ticket seats are our first preference but, quite frankly, we'll sit anywhere as long as we get a ticket.
My worry is, though, that if our 'preference' ticket isn't available, then we won't get allocated a ticket. Does anyone have any insight regarding this or is it just another thing that hasn't been thought through properly?

Was just thinking that myself. Don’t care where it is I just want a ticket.

Aye i dont really see the point of having to select an area, are there really any Hibs fans out there that would think 'Na if i cant sit in my stand then i dont want to go'? Im an East STH so obviously just stuck that down as first preference but, like you, I couldnt care less where i was put if i was lucky enough to be there.

I thought the same thing at the time but it doesn't offer an option for "sit anywhere". Daft

Its states on the ballot emails that no one will be allocated their ST seat until restrictions are lifted.
I sit in section 40 of the EAST, a decent seat, but i have been putting west upper for my preferences in the ballot as i don't like to sit down low.
This may hamper my chances but so be it.... horrible situation we all face right now trying to get back to see our club.

Yes, but I don't want to be restricted to two options. First I want my seat, second, I want a ticket. I don't have a preference beyond my own beloved seat.
What I don't want is to not get a seat because the system forced me into declaring just two preferences. That just doesn't make sense and potentially, it could lead to empty seats not being allocated.

OK. Then they really have to add an 'I'll sit anywhere' option or the whole thing could go horribly wrong.

If you only go into the ballot for the section(s) you choose, you might as well put the East as one choice as you're much more likely to get a seat simply because there are more of them available. Pretty poorly worded.

Good point.....
It is a bit farcical isn't it....
Surely they should just have the option to submit an application with no preference (unless needed due to disability or other reason).

Alan, the chances of getting your actual seat is low, unless you are looking for only you in the ballot
You have to remember they are having to move fans around due to social distancing rules etc

That's exactly what we have done as it makes the most logical sense. But what happens if everyone does that? Potentially, you end up with areas that still have gaps but no preference options to put in them.

I think most people are missing his point which isn't about getting your own seat. The point is that there should be an option of "anywhere" rather than having to select an area which might prejudice you getting a ticket.

Yup. My point is I'll sit on Jimmy Saville's knee* if it's the only option left. First choice my usual stand, second choice anywhere.

Think of it from the opposite side of things.
Assume you will be given a ticket anywhere in the ground, but if they can, they will give you one in your preferred area.
There's nothing to suggest you won't get a ticket if your preferred area isn't available.

I guess the difference between European games and League games is twofold.
First, Euro games are being treated like Cup games, so there is potential to be allocated a ticket anywhere. Ideally of course, you’d get the option to choose your own seat but Covid circumstances dictate that’s not a viable option due to social distancing requirements.
Second, for league games, you wouldn’t normally be anywhere other than your own seat. However, again, Covid restrictions (while they last) obviously means allocating everyone to their own seat is not possible.
The choose 2 options rule also has its potential pitfalls. Most (rightly or wrongly) will opt for seats nearest to where their ST is located. Does seem a tad unfair though that a Bronze level ST could take a Gold level seat away from someone who has paid the slightly more expensive cost.
Too late to change it now for Thursday or Sunday but definitely something the club need to look at ongoing while capacity restrictions continue.

The confirmation email suggests it is just the two options you select. 'Your application was at XXX Stand Gold/Silver/Bronze. If it is not possible to fulfil your requirements at this price, you have selected YYY Stand Gold/Silver/Bronze'

Everybody accepts that this is challenging for the club but simple logic suggests that you can't have process that potentially leaves available tickets unallocated when there are willing buyers.

Agree with what you are saying but my major gripe is the potential that by allowing people to select a preferred category a bronze ticket holder could choose a seat in a gold category over a gold season ticket holder who then either misses out entirely or gets a seat in a bronze category.
And while I’m probably contradicting myself here if they just said apply for a ticket and if successful we will try to allocate you a ticket in the same category as your existing season ticket. If that is too much of an admin headache then just say if successful you will be allocated a ticket in any part of the ground. I suspect that’s what will probably happen anyway, I just think having options when choosing to go into the ballot is just adding unnecessary confusion.

I would think that the ticket office has the seats earmarked for sale so that they comply with social distancing measures just now. I`m in one of the posh seats in the FF Upper and that stand isn`t open so I have no chance of seating in my seat. However, I am more than happy that I got a seat for the Santa game and one for Thurs. I would sit anywhere if it means getting back to ER
The TO can probably do without the added burden of people messaging, wanting to sit in their own seat just now, just be happy that you can potentially get back into the ground, no matter where you sit

I don’t think that it what his point is. He understands his own seat isn’t likely but it’s the fact there are only 2 preference areas to sit and if neither of them are available do Hibs place you elsewhere or just say you were unsuccessful. Would be easier if you just applied for a ticket anywhere in the ground without preferences.

You’re correct. Allocating a ticket randomly would be easier and fairer. The current scenario is not going to be ongoing for much longer - we hope.
The choose First & Second option will likely lead to over subscribing for certain, if not all, sections. Does that mean if you “lose out” due to over subscription, you’ll not get a ticket at all? That can’t be the club’s intention - surely! Then again, it might be a natural way to reduce numbers to the allowable numbers for certain sections.
Who knows how these decisions are reached. Somebody has signed it off as the right way to go, for whatever reason.

How do you even apply to the ballot for the Ross County game. I followed the link in the email but that took me to my profile. I also need to make sure my daughter is in the ballot, do I need to sign in on her account too. I thought the shambles with tickets would have stopped when LD left but it has unbelievable got worse.
The club should have made sure all 4 stands were open, those successful in the ballot should have been informed before monies taken and the whole process needs to be done more timeously. On top of that the comms have been poor with broken links and sent out after the fact. It really isn't rocket science and the club really needs to do so much better. I would also like to know if it is the club or council who have decided not to open the stands behind the goals.

I had an issue at first too but it's working now - just make sure to log into your ticketing account.
And if you're daughter isn't already in your "Network" - you can add her by using her Client Ref Number and then assign one of the tickets you apply for to her.

It literally took me 30 seconds to enter the ballot for the Ross County game. Signed in, went to single tickets and then all matches and the Ross County game was there. I then applied for mine and using "add a family member" added my son, didn`t need to go onto his account. It really was that simple

Again, Andy, you may well be right BUT the form does not indicate that the sensible option will be taken so you can't guarantee that all the logistics have been properly thought through. Plus, if it's an automated system, there may not be an 'if this, then that' rule that automatically allocates an available ticket anywhere in the stadium if the areas indicated as preferences are already full.
It may not be the 'intention' to fail to allocate a ticket but it could be an unintended consequence.

No joy, tried clearing cache, hitting link while logged in, hitting link while logged out and it just takes me to my profile page. Hibs really need to do better. I think he is correct. I can`t choose the stand my season ticket seat is in so I just chose the East. I quite liked the fact I didn`t know what part of that stand I would be sitting in.
I also find it rather amusing that people are moaning that fans may be getting better seats than what their season ticket entitles them too. My seat is one of the more expensive in the ground but do I care that I`m sitting in a "lower value seat"? Not a jot, I am just more than happy to get back to seeing Hibs in the flesh. Some folk are never happy

^^It's weird.
If i go to the main Hibs website here is an option to login in the stop left of my screen.
It logs me into nothing though! Back on the same main screen but now saying logged in.
If i want to buy a ticket I have to click the link to take me there.
Same if I want to buy something from the shop or watch Hibs TV.
So 4 logins in total.
In this case, I clicked the 'Buy Tickets' link that takes me to Ticketmaster.
Now, select single tickets and the next page should show you the Ross Co game at the top.
Click apply for tickets here. On the next page you can add another member in your network so that you can buy 2.
Then choose your preference for area and confirm.
Good luck

Was that for the European game. I didn't see any instructions for the game on Sunday in the email sent for Sunday's game. I got a ticket for the Euro game so must have done it correctly then but it should be repeated in all comms. There is nothing in the email that instructs how to apply, it just says log in to your account. I'm not a luddite and when comms are sent out they should be very simple to follow and repeated as you have to assume someone is reading this and making their first application. The comms from the club are terrible at the moment imo.
It also nips me with silly things like 2-3 days notice when the ballot closes less than 3 days before the game and also why if it is a ballot conducted by applying as you would buy a ticket for a single game will that put you in the ballot for further games. Say you can't attend another game and you get a seat meaning someone misses out.
This should have been sorted out days ago for the bulk of the tickets, at least the legal amount with the rest sorted when the council decision came through. The council may have been poor but that is a given and the club really need to do so much better

You're missing my point - and, at the same time, you've hit the nail on the head.
My point is that the 'I'll sit anywhere' option allows you to be sure that if your preferred area is not available, you'll still be allocated a ticket if one is available elsewhere.
Your point about your neighbour is a very good one. She only wants a lower deck ticket so both of her options will be for West Lower sections. Some people have indicated that they think if your choice isn't available, then you'll be automatically given a seat somewhere else that is available. In the case of your neighbour, if no lower seat is available, she can't go and doesn't want a randomly allocated seat that could be up the top of the East Stand.
All they have to do is make it an option.

Not looked at the whole thread so don’t know if already mentioned. Noticed this part on the website though.
“Once registered for the ballot, there will be no need to re-apply game by game”
Surely you should have to apply on a game by game basis if they need to continue to use a ballot. Otherwise, you probably have a number of folk in certain ballots for games they can’t actually attend.

Good question. Email says "*If you are a Season Ticket Holder with a reserved seat when your Season Ticket is not valid, access will be added to your card once you have purchased."
Guess that means you use your season ticket but go to the allocated ballot seat instead?

Not looked at the whole thread so don’t know if already mentioned. Noticed this part on the website though.
“Once registered for the ballot, there will be no need to re-apply game by game”
Surely you should have to apply on a game by game basis if they need to continue to use a ballot. Otherwise, you probably have a number of folk in certain ballots for games they can’t actually attend.
:agree:
I hope CEC give us a decent allocation and all of this is worry over nothing in the end.
It'll be majorly disappointing if the 1 league game I can attend after paying for a ST for partial use the last 2 years passes me by due to "reaching capacity" when it's actually an empty seat for someone who only wanted to go to a previous game.

Good question. Email says "*If you are a Season Ticket Holder with a reserved seat when your Season Ticket is not valid, access will be added to your card once you have purchased."
Guess that means you use your season ticket but go to the allocated ballot seat instead?
That makes some sort of sense but would be completely at odds with the Arsenal and Santa Coloma matches where the separate Ticketmaster email with the QR codes came through at the same time, even though the confirmation email had the same spiel you've quoted.

That's right I'd forgotten that! Not that it should make a difference but the previous round wasn't a ballot?

Surely that can't be right you could be getting charged for tickets you don't want.

Only season ticket holders can apply so there's nothing to pay for.

And if you don't apply for the ballot for Ross County because you cannot attend then surely they'll reopen the ballot so you can apply for subsequent games. You would hope so.

Nothing to pay for from a league game perspective however you could be doing someone out of a ticket that could go when you can’t

I’m presuming we’re not giving Ross County their usual 50 tickets for the game?

The excellent Mel from the ticket office has confirmed that if you don't get your requested sections, you would still be allocated a ticket elsewhere if one was available. Which is great news - apart from the lady waiting for the hip replacement who can't climb the stairs.

On a serious note, can anyone confirm if there is a lift/elevator in West Upper South?
Our STs are West Upper North and there is a lift there which the Mrs uses.

I've done that and now got the confirmation email so can see where I'm sitting. There's no e-ticket or QR codes though. Do we know when these are issued?
Same issue as me. Resent email and have seat numbers etc. Going to just take posters above comment and assume they will be loaded to existing ST cards for me.

You’ll get another email with your tickets on them, it won’t be on your season ticket

To be honest, I just saw on the notification on Facebook and just repeated the actions I did for the European game - i never read the email lol

Had a look on their site Billy, theres nothing about tickets for our game on Sunday.
I think the council are going to be ***** and will not allow away fans at Tynie either when we play them.

What's the point in being given a first and second choice of where youd prefer to sit if you just get put anywhere ?

Ross, this won’t have anything to do with your ST card you can leave that in the drawer. My ST is in a stand that isn’t open. If you have a seat number on your email and your Hibs account history then you’ll get an e-ticket soon. You might need it to sit in your seat, you’ll definitely need it to get through the turnstile.

some are complaining they can`t have their own seat, one complained that he got tickets but wanted to move. Honestly, I think some of our fans prefer to moan and greet. I`m just happy to be back even with the inevitable soaking with Thursday night`s rain

There’s only two stands opening. For example, some older less able folks might not fancy their legs getting them up and down the East stairs and would only take the Lower West in any instance. Choice isn’t a bad thing but once you get your allocation there’s absolutely no buggering about with it.

That’s not buggering about, it’s moaning and if he doesn’t fancy the seat he got I am sure Hibs will take it back and give it to someone who does and he can greet at the telly.
We’re three games in to this process after this, what sleepy, dozy old mind thinks he can stroll up to his / her own seat???? The FF is ****ing shut for a start!

I know, that`s where I normally sit. I have said before, I quite like the process of entering the ballot and not quite knowing where I will end up if I`m successful.

Love my usual season ticket seat in the east but I've been allocated West upper right in the corner at the end by the wall.
Could not care less. Just delighted to be going!!!!!
