Think everyone was caught up in the Rijeka hype - even the Hibs players. I was quite shocked at how poor they were on the ball and how panicked they were at the back when pressed. No question, they were well organised, but that's all you can say. Rijeka are no better than a Motherwell or St Johnstone.
Hibs & Jack Ross will now know that and that's why you are hearing them talk about beating Rijeka over the two legs. Think we've got a good chance of going though.
Know they've come in for some stick for time-wasting and playing dead, but I was pleasantly surprised how well they competed, took tackles and just got on with it. None of the usual histrionics you usually get from Continental clubs at ER.
Not St Johnstone please

That all could be true.
Unless Rijeka played below their usual standard. I think that’s what their fan is trying to say, they will be better next week.
I think we have to prepare for them to be much better than their showing last night.

Actually, I never put any odds here as You noticed.
There is one fact I repeated, this is new team, it will be ups and downs, especially early in the season. Especially beacuse we had some player out due to covid regulations recently. Also, some of our players are awaiting transfers and definitely not 100% in, also we will have some new arrivals soon. Etc, etc.
We did not play good game yesterday but despite that, we did not loose. I believe that we will play much better at home. So You will have to play on perhaps higher level then yesterday to beat us at home.
Not saying it will be easy for any side, but it will be a kind of different game for sure.
I think it’s a bit poor that you aren’t making any reference to how well we played last night to be honest which made your team look pretty poor in turn

You want to see the number of Jambos who said Rijeka are a sh*te team. Just can't bring themselves to admit we might be capable of a good performance. Any pundit who says so is then categorised as not having a clue.

Well, this is a difference comparing to our league. It is normal to kick the ball out, not to judge if someone is cheating or not. In many ocassions even ref stops the game.
If your players were not play acting and wasting time we would kick the ball out mate but it was every 2 mins in second half last night, utterly ridiculous

Frustrating not to get more on Thursday, they are a very mediocre side. More interested in gamesmanship than playing football.
Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if Boyle has dents in his shins, have to admire Martin’s determination to keep going against these hatchet men.
Hope we get what we deserve from the tie, they will need to show their fans they are actually a football team on Thursday. So it may be a tougher game. Fancy we will beat them, as we have too much quality.

Some info about the stadium and support
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadion_Rujevica (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadion_Rujevica)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armada_Rijeka
Well, a fact is that Rujevica is planned as a training camp (still is) so stadium is actually expanded with northern stand after plans for building new stadium at K antrida has to be postponed because of lack of financing. Originally, Rujevica had only two stands and expansion was made in season after we won championship because UEFA regulations say that minimum capacity of a stadium which can be licensed for CL is 8.000.
Plan was that new K antrida stadium is planned for capacity of 14.000. Here it is:
https://www.stadion****rida.hr/en/stadion-****rida/
Also, there is peak into atmosphere on K antrida when it is full (friendly against Maribor 2018):

And Rujevica, game against Cibalia for winning the championship 2017 (without northern stand):

Yup. A lot of Hibs fans on here who seem to think the tie is already won. I think we have a very good chance to go through but I also remember draws at home against Dnipro and Molde, followed by very different results away from home.
I would suggest if we can't beat them on our own patch, I'm less confident of doing so away from home in the heat.

This Croatian boy thinks his team are good when they are a very average european side full of divers and time wasters. They will be forced to actually play football (and not time waste) by their tiny 6,000 stadium and we'll beat them on the counter attack as we are better away from home. I can't wait for Thursday.

What do You think?
I enjoyed your report on the game. Good to see another point of view.
One of the guys on here wrote up Thursdays match report on the thread "How Does It Feel" if you want to read it. He always writes a good and reasonably balanced report.
The game itself played out pretty much how I expected with Hibs not taking their chances and Rijeka making their few chances count. Drmec was very quiet and spent a lot of time moaning to the referee. I get the impression that Drmec is one of those players that doesn't do a lot most of the time then suddenly bursts into life and scores. Hopefully he doesn't burst into life at any time next week! Muric was quiet when he came on. Will he start next week?
The atmosphere with the massively reduced crowd on Thursday was strange. It was unlike any Hibs European game I have ever attended. It felt like a friendly instead of what should have been a great occasion.
What about next week?
I think your team played well within themselves on Thursday with a draw on their minds and looking to play on the counter attack if opportunities arose.
Previous experiences tell me they will play much more positively and will look a much more dangerous team in next weeks game. Hopefully we can play well and match your team rather than sitting back. We will also have to take our chances and not give away cheap goals.
I thought we looked most dangerous in the 15 minute spell when we played with two strikers, with Doidge joining Nisbet up front but that quickly died when Nisbet was injured. Don't expect him to play tomorrow but return to play on Thursday.
Who do I think will win?
I honestly don't know. I would probably make your team 60/40 favourites but at 1-1 with 90 minutes to play it could go either way.

We finally have all players available (no injuries, no covid) and we are not playing tommorrow so we will have time to rest and practice.
But do not expect same game, we will definitely try to take a ball and put a pressure on you.
I said 100 times that this is a new team, especially in attack lineup, it takes time to things come in place.
You are optimistic because of first leg, but all of you state that you played well. However, you did not win.
We played with some serious teams last few years in Europe, last year Napoli and Real Sociedad with best team available got lucky wins in Rijeka, they thought that it will be easy job. And AZ needed a win in last leg to get through, instead of that they lost.
So we are not so harmless at home, you have to keep that in mind.
Of course I expect that we will win. Not expecting easy win, you are hard opponent, but there are not easy games in european competition.
And all of you who think that our stadium is some village field and our supporters are audience like in Scotland, you are welcome to come and see it yourselves.

Appreciate your input on here Rijeka fan it's been good reading a different perspective on the tie. I think honestly a lot of us feared the worst overall about this tie due to Rijekas European experience over us...but Thursday we more than matched Rijeka in every department. I fully expect a tougher match in Croatia however Hibs are very good away from home, our away record is much better than our home record under Jack Ross. Thursday will be interesting, I am surprised Rijeka have postponed their league match this weekend - as u mention a lot the team are full of new players, surely an additional league match would help your team to gel? I'd make Rijeka slight favourites ahead of Thurs maybe 60/40 but if Hibs play as well as we did last week but take our chances we have every chance of going through

And in the last 10 years, all of us would be delighted to have played ties at the above mentioned although we did have a good time in Copenhagen. It’s between 20 and 50 years nearly since we bothered one or two of the others. Hopefully we will add Rijeka to the list of good ones.

Hibs have to play better - be clinical in front goal.
Rijeka will play better and have the comfort of being home and used to playing in the temperature etc.

This is actually a good question.
We will see on Thursday.
But it takes years to build a mentality of a team.
We are not same team as we were 10 years ago. You have to know how to win games when there is no opportunity for second chance.
If you understand what I want to say.

Let me explain on some examples.
2017 we won championship against Dinamo. This is the same effort as for you to do it against Celtic or Rangers.
Same year we also won the cup finals against Dinamo 3-1.
In 2019 Dinamo won the championship with 20 points ahead of us. But in cup finals we won 3-1 as heavy underdogs.
In 2020 we also win in the cup finals 1-0 against Lokomotiva as underdogs. In cup quarter finals we also beat Dinamo 1-0 after we lost in championship against them 0-4 and 0-3.
Last year we won in Copenhagen 1-0 in play off of EL as heavy underdogs.
So, do not underestimate us.

If You are reffering to me, I would say that arrogance would be if I said that we was better and that game You play was ****.
On the contrary, I said that Your coach prepared good tactics and beat is with our own planned weapon and that we played to slow because of Your good defence.
If You think that I am here to praise Hibernian players, well my nickname is Rijeka fan. But it does not make me arrogant, don't You think?
Another excellent reply and you have been knowledgeable, interesting and informative and a credit to your club.
HMK Rijeka is a club I will now follow with interest hopefully from a distance but if necessary in the next stage of the competition.
I was very impressed with Hibs in the first game however we do not play well under pressure and where we are expected to win.
We had 2 semi finals and a cup final last year against inferior teams and lost them all and our lack of a strong mentality still worries me greatly.

Your record is very good and we do respect it but perhaps in Thursday's game the underdogs will do very well:wink:

Winning your league is nowhere near what it would need for us to do it with Celtic and Rangers in it. Even to finish 2nd.
Would be basically impossible for another team to have won a league as recently as 2017.

Sensible fans will not underestimate your team. Your team obviously has many excellent players however we probably feel we should be ahead after the first game and that we have missed an opportunity for a lead. With the tie being level most will think you are favourites however also that we still have a reasonable chance of going through. Gutted we wouldn't be able to attend your beautiful city in what would have been an excellent trip following our team. If you win hope you do well in the next round.

My take on the 2nd leg is that it'll be tough, but not impossible to go through. They obviously have some talented players and have recent experience in European competitions. The weather will be hard for us. An expected temp about 32°, reducing to about 27° for KO time not something we're used to. But, they showed on occasions on Thursday they aren't a great side, but a decent team who have flaws we can take advantage of. Good thing is that away goal don't matter, so we go there with a blank canvas.

I post on here and like to think I know as many Hibs fans as the next guy as at no point would I think we think the tie is already won, what a radge comment. We are as likely to get a doing or not that’s football what I think people are saying as watching the first leg regardless of who you follow Hibs were the better side and should be going over there with a 1/2 goal lead. That didn’t happen so we go again, I for one don’t fear this team but am long enough in the tooth to also realise there could be a flirt with progression in this Europe thing and we come away feeling like a missed opportunity

Croatian strip is class, had one for Euro 96 and I’ve loved all of their strips since.
FWIW outside Scotland Croatians are probably my favourite national team to watch. Love watching them play and some of the technical players they’ve had over the years have been tremendous.
That team with Prosinecki, Boban, Suker etc were brilliant and right up to the modern day I think Modric is an absolute joy to watch.
All done with a small population makes them all the more incredible.
Still hope we pump Rijeka on Thursday obviously and think we stand a decent chance, although they’re clearly favourites.

I certainly didn't suggest all Hibs fans felt that way but a quick look back at some of the posts here and the match thread and there are comments like:
"Fancy we will beat them, as we have too much quality."
"Hibs to go through by a couple of goals."
"Hibs to go through by 2 clear goals"
"I'm fully expecting Hibs to win over in Croatia"
"I can't see them beating us, we are much better than them"
That's not having a pop, I'm not looking to single out posters for their optimism, they are of course entitled to that opinion and may be right in the end! I’d say that a win over there would be as good a European result that we have had for many years. They are a seasoned European side. With all that experience and the level of talent at their disposal it will be a very hard night over there. That said, if we can keep it tight at the back we’ve definitely got a goal or two in us…let’s hope we pull off a memorable victory.

Knowing how these games go, if we'd played like they did away in the first leg, we'd be over the moon with a draw, and confident of a win at home.
Personally i think we have a chance, probably more of a chance than i did before the first leg of going through to the next round.

Looking at posts by some Hibs fans I detect a hint of bravado.
The odds are showing as Rijeka 5/6, Hibs 3/1 to win on the night in 90 mins. So Rijeka are warm favourites, which is not surprising given they are at home and have a much better recent European pedigree than Hibs.
We do have a chance on Thursday based on last week's showing but we are the clear underdog.

That worries. We'll have very little time over their to adjust and no matter how fit you are, that heat difference compared with Scotland can be a killer.

One remark about our jersey colors.
Traditionally we always had white jerseys and this is our home jersey color (always combined with light blue).
Second kit was light blue, always.
But new owner introduced red jersey as third kit and black one as fourth. We also had one limited edition of purple ones, very rare today to find.
So in time, red jersey became second kit, and at the moment we have only two kits: white and red.
If you ask supporters, red would be kicked out or it can be only as third option. But, that is just our opinion.

Have they got any plans to finish it?
Rijeka average attendances are less than 5,000 (2nd highest in Croatia) so they have no need to rush to finish it.
Only Hadjuk Split get decent attendances, circa 12,000, so still almost a third smaller than Hibs.
Their top league average attendance is only about 3,500 which is less than 25% of the average for our league.
Suggests your average Croation isn't that interested in football.

Where does that arrogance come from? They played more long balls than we did. Is the guy in denial or something. Bizarre. This will be a close game between two well matched sides. Theres no need for the snobbery from the Croats.

He's the one who has no idea. He still thinks we're a long ball team.
Not only has he got them beating us, he's got them beating Bohemians or PAOK and then winning the group. 😂😂 I'm all for players having confidence but if a player over here came out with something like that he'd be slated. If they don't now do all that he's going to look like the idiot he obviously is.

For someone that supposedly played in the first leg, I'm not entirely convinced he actually saw the game. Arrogant nonsense, nothing but transparent, primary school mind games.
Still hope we batter them.

I would have said good luck for the rest of the tournament if your team wins but after your player's comments, I might not bother. 😃 Like you say, tensions are rising, I think your player's comments are because he is feeling the pressure.

Really poor. We were miles ahead of them and could have won by 2-3 goals. Both teams scored a header, each had two yellow cards, we definitely created more chances (not via crosses) and possession was all us until later in the game when they started wasting time.

It was clear to me they weren’t expecting us to be as good on the ball as we were on Thursday and that helped us dominate. I’d have assumed they would have learned from that but if they genuinely believe we’re a long ball team after the first leg I think we’ve got a great chance. Not sure if this is some strange attempt at mind games but the way we’ve started the season it’ll backfire for them

I don’t think it needs to be our team talk, I just think we ignore it.
The last two times they’ve faced a Scottish side has been Aberdeen so no wonder they think Scottish sides are long ball hoof merchants.
If they want to play on the deck thinking it will trouble us then let them think that, it plays right into our hands.
Go out there, play our football with no distractions and we will be a good match for them at least.

Fans are reminded that there are no away tickets for our away trip to HNK Rijeka on Thursday in the third-qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
We are all really excited for our away trip to Rijeka. It is a chance to get one step closer to the group stage of the Europa Conference League and build on our impressive start to the 2021/22 season.
Hopefully we can make it a night to remember for fans and set up a play-off tie against either Bohemians or PAOK. But we are duty bound to remind all Hibernian fans that there are no away tickets available for the game.
All tickets will be checked prior to entry and any Hibernian fans who are not Croat residents will be turned away at the gate. HNK Rijeka reserve the right to do this solely at their discretion.
If any Hibernian fans do manage to somehow enter the stadium, they will risk ejection and put the club at risk of a UEFA fine.
We have been made aware of posts on social media from a few fans saying they will be travelling to Croatia to attend the game. While Croatia is a green-listed country, and people from this country are free to travel there for holiday purposes, we nonetheless urge you to stay in Scotland and not travel over for the match.
If you are heading to Croatia please don't gather outside the stadium and ensure you watch the match safely and responsibly. We want our trip to Rijeka to be a memorable occasion so encourage all fans to please stay at home and watch the game on Premier Sports.

Flying to Split tomorrow. Can't wait.
Won't be going anywhere near the game and don't really care.
Croatia is a great country so a perfect excuse to get over there and enjoy the sun, watch the game on the telly with pals on the beautiful Dalmatian Coast.
Maybe go and see the Hadjuk Split game on Saturday, fly back Sunday.
No point in driving all the way up there just to not get into the game.
Hibs can urge me to stay in Scotland all they like. I prefer warm weather.

Both. There's a few of us going. My pal got married there a few years ago.
Not my idea but when they said they were going and I saw the price of flights (£50 return) couldn't resist.

To be allowed entry into Croatia, all travellers from the UK regardless of their vaccination status must present either a negative COVID-19 antigen test, which must not be older than 48 hours, or a negative PCR test, no older than 72 hours on arrival. People travelling to Croatia from the UK are not permitted to do these tests on arrival in Croatia. Passengers arriving without a valid test certificate will be denied entry to Croatia.

We are a strong, fit team and it is early in the season.
Don't want to hear this heat nonsense as an excuse if we don't perform. It was as hot in Tripolis a couple of years back and we got through. Based on club performances however, Rijeka are a slight step up from Asteras Tripolis.
Looking for a similar performance on Thursday as we had in Greece.
We better turn up.

Must say I thought Asteras were far superior than the Rijeka we saw the other night. Which is slightly ominous as surely they can’t be as bad again.
What a trip Tripolis was. A beautiful place you’d never consider going if it wasn’t for the match. Great atmosphere in the ground and an excellent team performance with a spirit to match.
We’ll need the same again Thursday I’m sure.

Anybody else reading between the lines and seeing this cryptic message as really meaning “come along liquored up and full of Bolivian marching powder with a mob of CCS and cause as much aggro as you like, the local old bill are pretty lax and it’ll be easy to get into the stadium and then initiate some mass 80’s style carnage in the town” or is just me?
Think it's just you pal.

Bet 365 have got them to win at 19/20 and Hibs at 12/5. That's worth a punt or do they know something we don't?

The link works fine for me. Straight to the Rijeka youtube channel
they streamed the game against Gzira United, so potentially maybe streaming the hibs game. Would save us all the premier sports subscription if it happens

You could get angry at the prices given the money we have given for nothing in return,
No need to pump us for £23. £20 would have been plenty.
Just thought I would bump this - Aberdeen are charging their fans £30 / £32 / £34 for their euro match this week.............

Managed to watch it. Looks like a typical Croatian town/city. Was in pula a few years ago and looks similar

The link from your first post didn't connect so I typed it into Google and no dice. The link in your post above connected fine - looks well worth a visit. Thanks.

In other news, I see that the BBC are showing the St Johnstone v Galataseray game. Both legs available to anyone who wants it while our game is on a subscription channel.

It is, which makes it all the more difficult to understand subscription channel not taking up the game.

To be fair they are playing in a more prestigious competition to us.
Edit. Just seen above response!

I’d guess most saints fans will be at the game where as a lot more of us will be watching on tele with a bigger fan base so more chance of them getting new subscriptions to watch it.

Anyone know what group Rijeka have been drawn into? They must be confident of winning the tournament at this rate..😁

Yup they got lucky with Daz and his moment of madness as we had them on the ropes at that point. Delighted to see them turfed after all their arrogant nonsense
