Not seen this mentioned, but the scenes there lately are awful. Worst violence since apartheid, with the death toll now well over 100:

I've mentioned on here that I was in Durban a couple of years ago, just before the election, and I can't say I'm surprised.

Our safari guide wasn't slow in telling us on the long drive to and from the safari reserve about how corrupt the political system was there. Very much aligned on tribes and if you're not in the right tribe ...

I also mentioned the crime, or rather the lengths people went to protect themselves and their property was about as extreme as I've encountered on such a large scale.

And then there's the huge difference between rich and poor.

My wife and I think we were on the actual streets and malls that have been in the various video news clips. It's not difficult to imagine it would be even worse elsewhere.

BLM?
Think the reality is only money and power really matters to both black and white people.
Those with it want to keep it and those without it want it.
Those with it keep it through laws and systems to frustrate those without it who then take criminal and violent measures to circumvent those measures.
Humans are the worst.

Do you think South Africa has improved the lives of all black people since apartheid or has it just benefitted the elite few?
I know little but it appears to me that apartheid still exists. Economic apartheid but still apartheid. The poor don't appear to have moved home with the rich and influential black people living well apart from them.
Over a quarter of a century since Mandela was released from prison and little has changed her than a black elite instead of a white one.
