Hi Hibees!

Just a quick hello from your brand new content team at Hibs.

My name is Ben Jacobs. I am head of communications and content at the club having arrived in the off-season. We have also appointed Adam Tomlinson (communications manager) and Mathew Newton (digital lead).

I hope you have noticed a positive change in our style and volume of content since pre-season started. We have revamped the programme and social graphics and are now offering more website content and in-game video updates. We will expand these areas, as well as the video on Hibs TV, over the coming weeks and months.

I am really keen to connect with as many of you as possible since it's important we get feedback from you. Feel free to email me via [email protected] and I will check this board from time to time.

We are really keen as a team to tell more fan-led stories, too, so please reach out if you'd like to feature or believe the club should be telling your story.

Excited to welcome you all back to Easter Road and I hope those of you able to attend Arsenal are enjoying the match!

Best,

Ben

Thanks for posting Ben. I'm sure that you'll receive many comments, some may be negative, but I'm sure many will be appreciative of you reaching out at the start of your journey with Hibernian FC. Good luck to you and your team.

Be aware, you may need one of these :tin hat:.

Thanks for posting. Do you have a football background? I only ask because you use the phrase "off-season" which sounds very USA to me. Most Scottish football fans use the phrase "close season"? Not on the wind-up, genuinely interested.

Here's hoping you guys get what Hibs are about and pitch your efforts accordingly. It will be scrutinized and dissected in ways you probably can't imagine :greengrin.

Welcome ! Definitely noticed a difference so far. Improved content - graphics and updates !

Hopefully you have seen the old content we had - Hibs youtube - Outside the box - fun features with players and fans worked really well.

Not sure if it’s your remit but the best half time effort was when Marathon Bet had a large dart board type thing on centre circle and fans had to pass the ball into the middle - the lane on bullseye for different points.

Marathon bet also did some great videos - like player celebrations which were funny to see.

https://www.youtube.com/Marathonbet/playlists?disable_polymer=true&itct=CA8Q8JMBGAIiEwjTwqCpjeLxAhUlKvEFHWcSBcw%3D

Again not sure if this involves you..but hopefully you can work with the Hibs DJ and come up with what the fans want for entrance music / possible goal music / other songs which Hibs can claim and make their own.

Welcome Ben, cheers for the update.

Looking forward to the more interactive approach now. Just to add to what GreenCastle said earlier, some of the stuff from around the 2014/2016 era was great including outside the box.

I think what worked really well back then was the feeling of interaction between the players and fans through some really well produced stuff. I know a lot of fans look back to that era as a great time for feeling a real connection with the club and players since we got to see more of their personalities.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with, hopefully a good mix of professional looking stuff but also some light hearted content with the players.

Thanks again!

Ben, I've had email correspondence from you and would just like to say again that the transformation even in just a week or two is fantastic.

I also previously wrote for the programme (until the forced shutdown) and alongside my email just want to offer my services once again.

Welcome on board Ben and also the same to Adam & Mathew.

A sure fire way of getting into the good books would be to persuade Ron to get Bill Gates to plough his money into the club and announce the signings of Mbappe, Ronaldo, Chiesa, Bonucci & Chiellini to add back up after our impressive performance yesterday evening.

Way back in the late sixties the then current Hibs chairman, Bill Harrower, was getting a bit of stick for the sale of ace marksman, Colin Stein, to our big rivals, Rangers, for what then was a record fee between Scottish clubs. A rumour started to sweep Edinburgh that a rich American syndicate was going to buy the club and sign top players for Hibs. Remembering this was a time when you had to check the morning paper to get the previous night's score, if you never got to a game, rumours like this were taken far more serious than if it was today.

History show's us that the American syndicate didn't arrive and that Colin Stein quickly became a hated figure for the Hibs fans, [his hat-trick against us the week after his move wouldn't have helped] and Bill Harrower got his revenge by selling two more of our stars, Peter Marinello & Peter Cormack before he sold out to Tom Hart, who, although he wasn't a rich American consortium, he did bring in Eddie Turnbull less than a year later.

No pressure :greengrin

Thank you Ben for posting on Hibs.net. Your effort to connect is very welcome I'm sure to all members. To echo a previous point, to reach out to even more Hibs fans it would be great if you could connect to Hibees Bounce members too.

The other plea I would make to you is to engage with Hibernian supporters constantly to understand our ethos. In my opinion glitzy, fancy, bog standard marketing campaigns won't go down well with Hibs fans generally. We are a unique Club and open, honest communication with fans is imperative.

Hi Ben, and welcome to the boxing ring

Only thing I would say is please don’t forget us overseas based supporters in any grand plan.

We may not make the matches every week, but we do our best to support the club.

And while I’m on it, it would be interesting to see on a percentage basis, a league table of countries/subscribers to Hibs TV from outside Scotland.

I also think it's quite funny people already trying to tell these guys what to do.

We've all had stuff that we've liked in the past and maybe other things that we'd like to see, but we're not pros - these guys are.

The output over the past couple of weeks is already a step up and personally I'm looking forward to what's coming next. It'll take the new team a few weeks/months to get into full swing and I'd imagine it'll be prettty obvious when it happens. That's when to start giving feedback - not before.

Not sure people have been telling them what to do more just giving feedback/views on what we'd like to see, which they asked for (and I'm glad they did).

I think it makes perfect sense to ask the fans their thoughts before/during working on stuff as opposed to after the fact. There is no one out there who knows more about the club and in particular what has come before than the fans themselves who have lived it, so it makes sense to get feedback from them.

Maybe just pass the message on to the Bounce in a post yourself? Could have done that in the time it took to get your knickers in a twist about someone from the club trying to engage with fans and not doing so within your desired time frame.

Pity they didn’t ask the fans about buying the programme at the ground before a game, before deciding that you won’t be able to buy a programme at a game now because we are the greenest club in Scotland.

I am getting it that a programme at a game isn’t for everyone but it is for quite a lot and it should be available.

Unfortunately I think you'll find that programmes will soon be phased out everywhere, apart from maybe cup semis or finals and maybe testimonial matches (not many of them these days either).

They'll go the way of other printed media as the market just isn't there any more.

EHZERO7

I think there is still a market for them, just maybe not near what it was.
My original point was that Hibs aren’t going to sell them at Easter road because they want to be seen as the greenest club in Scotland but you are still able to buy a official club programme from Curtis Sport.

I suspect that if they were profitable then they'd still be widely available - eco-friendly or not.

There’s still a huge appetite for programmes all over the UK. Some clubs may not do them but they are very much in the minority. Reverting to online only might be a short term necessity in current times but Hibs are clearly still producing a match programme and as its up for purchase online then its widely available. I hope they and all the clubs in Scotland who have produced them every season for decades continue to do so. The Arsenal edition is splendid and Hibs would be making a mistake stepping away from a tradition older than pretty much all of us.
