Probably been done before, apologies for that but who was the best Scotland player you have seen in your opinion.
For me I'd say Law or Dalglish.
Special mention for Jim McCalliog who scored in 67 and won Scotland the World Cup and who I played 5 a side against (he was in the same team as Tony Green who is a God in Blackpool, I marked him he didnt get a kick :greengrin:wink:)

Not the best player I witnessed live but probably the best performance I witnessed, Alan McLaren marking Baggio out the game @ Ibrox, a quite magnificent performance. Failing that, probably Jim Leighton v Sweden at Ibrox.

Big Joe Jordan Hampden Park 1973 versus Czechoslovakia
1-1 ba hits the post ( Morgan I think ) ba gets swung back in Big Joe meets it square on with a full length diving header
2-1
Scotland had qualified for the World Cup 1974
Met him outside the Stade de France in 1998 before the Brazil game
“Ah wish you were playing today Joe” says I
“So do I son, so do I “ says he :greengrin

Very popular in Wales I believe
Joe Jordan was a great centre forward though. I would imagine a bit of handfull to deal with.

My other story was the late great Davy Cooper showing nerves o steel baws o brass to score that penalty in Cardiff to send us through and send 20000 Scots in the away end behind the goal radge
Fantastic player

Age is a factor in my choice but my first experience of Scotland was the 2008 euro qualifying campaign, McFadden was unbelievable the entire campaign and his goal against France means everything.

Remember standing at Hampden in 1989 in the pissing rain watching Scotland 2 v 0 France
Maurice Johnston was totally outstanding running the French ragged scoring twice either side of Half-time
Pretty sure Mo played for Nantes at the time and Franck Sauzee played for France

Had not long left Raith Rovers for Rangers me thinks. Could be wrong though. Anyway i am defo in the minority on here who hope that Italy get what they deserve the morn , nowt. Cant forgive their cheating behaviour at Hampden a few years ago. C,mon you Brits.

Methinks you are way out. Baxter went to to Rangers in 1960 from Raith. In 1967 he was at Sunderland. I've always thought his best international was against England in 1963.

Not the question, I know, but the best individual performance I've ever seen was Billy Bremner at ER 1974. He won that game single-handed (with a slight assist from the standside linesman who flagged Gordon off after O'Rourke cut it back from the byeline).
And he remains one of the best Scottish players ever.

Those were the days when we competed well against the best in the world.
Bremner was immense that night but Hibs were by far the better team

We didn't get a result when I saw him but it has to be Dalglish - Scotland v England 1982
(I've decided on him for his overall career, not this one game)

Who can forget his face lighting up after he had curled one into the far postage stamp corner in a 3-1 win over Spain at Hampden :greengrin

Only time I have seen a player playing sweeper behind the goalie. I believe he went against his managers instructions that night.

It's terrible how we're never going to get back to that stature in football.
We really were contenders.

I think the outcome of that realisation is a diminishment of my interest in the game of football.
Fair play to the guys that support the Brechin's and that of this world but that wasn't what I grew up doing.
I supported a team which although it didn't win much was capable of competing against the best in the game
We will sadly never do that again, it is a long time since we had a faint faint interest in even the Scottish league title race past Christmas, let alone taking on and beating Europe's best
Having tasted champagne, cava doesn't have anything like the same appeal.

Billy Bremner hit the post , Willie Morgan sent over the cross for big Joe, the goals are available on you tube.
I'll never forget that game as long as I live, I still get goosebumps listening to Arthur Montford willing on Denis Law when he was 1 on 1 with their keeper late on, those were the days indeed.
Back to the OQ and for me it has to be King Kenny, too many memories to mention but his goal at Anfield will go down as my favourite.

At the end of the the day, Hibs exist for the community that originally produced them.
The entire Scottish game is like that.

‘ Buchan on the overlap........It’s a goal!!!!!’
My OP was from my original memory as a schoolboy crammed into the Rangers end behind the goal for authenticity
I tried to resist the tried and tested reliability of YouTube
King Kenny was indeed a fabulous player although I might be wrong but I seem to remember an element of the support being unhappy with him for some reason - probably Huns
My favourite Dalglish goals England ( nutmeg) Wales, Belgium, Spain Israel and Holland
Q Who did King Kenny replace on his Scotland debut ?
