Much gnashing of supporters teeth about to happen.

The final round of Asian World Cup qualifiers has just been drawn and Australia's group is

Australia
Japan
Saudi Arabia
Oman
China
Vietnam

At the moment the home and away ties are scheduled between the beginning of September and the end of March.

Covid presents problems though and it may require FIFA to play the games in a 'hub'to avoid players being in quarantine for half the season!

Lucky we haven't re-signed Irvine or we'd be in double trouble!

I'm not sure why anyone would be upset at this - it's hardly shocking news that he would feature for Australia and miss Hibs games.

It just emphasise that we need more options out wide. With Wright not showing enough, Murphy having injury issues and Mackay brand new and untested, we need something else.

These games will be during the international break anyway, so probably no Hibs games anyway

Read somewhere that he has been left out of the Olympic Squad

Not so much left out, but not selected as one of the 2 over-age (normally under 24) players permitted.

is there no requirement in the UK for people returning from Asia to quarantine for a period on arrival?

Should be enough to upset a lot on here.....

Why are we supposed to be upset? Are these games all clashing with Hibs games?

there is usually much gnashing about the travel having an effect on him.

if he has to quarantine for any period then yes, he will most certainly miss games....quite possibly the HEARTS game for a start....hence my earlier question about whether he is required to quarantine on re-entry.

I"m looking at a document that lists most of the countries he may be visiting as 'amber listed'

So potentially he could be away with the Australian team ten times in the space of six months.

Considering he was our Player Of The Year last season, you must admit that would be a bit of a blow.

Absolutely!

Current scheduled match dates are:

September 2 and 7
October7 and 12
November 11and 16
January 27
February 1
March 22 and 29

Nearly all are during international weeks, but it is the returnng quarantine period - if there is one - that would be the main issue.

Hopefully that doesn't happen then.

You'll be looking forward to the games, though. Sounds a fairly decent set of fixtures, so best of luck

Those in professional sports attending games in recognised events - including the world cup qualifiers - are exempt from isolation. they will have to conform to a testing regime that conforms to our public health standards, but I think all World Cup qualifying teams will have protocols in place.

I'm glad to hear that is the case.

Doesn't happen in Oz.

Jamie MacLaren watched his team....Melbourne City play in their Grand final because he was still in hotel quarantine after returning from the Socceroos WC qualifiers in Kuwait.

quarantine rules obviously a bit stricter here.....even our PM is currently in quarantine after meeting Boris & CO down in Cornwall a week or so ago.

Tbh that's probably good practice even in normal times.
