I´m in Spain and seeing my juvenile children for the first time in 9 months. Having real challenges booking the 2 and 8 day PCR test for my return.
Has anyone done this recently? Who did you use?
Any advice or support welcomed

You need to book via the CTM portal on the Scottish Government website.
https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-international-travel-quarantine/pages/red-amber-and-green-list-countries/
Currently costs £170 for day 2/8 package.
No other tests will be accepted.

Got it now, thank you.
Not so easy to navigate through all of this.

170 notes! Jesus!
That is scandalous.
Especially when there appears to be massive excess capacity for free testing in the system.

Any idea what it costs in England and Wales?

Even worse than England, who will accept tests from other private providers at considerably less cost.
Don't understand why Scottish Government will only accept tests from the one source.

It depends on what provider you use, but have seen prices range between £65-£100 for the 2/8 package.
I recently used a day 2 package from Randox (returning to England) that cost £48.

A look at the UK Gov provider list shows a lot of choice going from £50 ish up to a heady £575! (Mayfair in London).
a couple of the cheaper ones I tried had no availability.

Most airlines are offering subsided test packages too.
Although none of these will be accepted in Scotland.

A backdoor means of suppressing international travel?

I'd seen one of the airport chiefs, probably Gordon Dewar at Edinburgh, talking about disparity in testing costs but now cannot find the article

Who knows, I just find it baffling, and a further kick in the teeth to the tourism industry.

Yes, he's been a critic of this Scottish Government policy from the outset.

It's ridiculous. My big Nigerian mate was due to fly back to Nigeria. He turned up at the airport with his PCR results and British airways refused him to travel because he didn't do the test through them and pay them the money. He got the test done at a UK government test site (one of the ones we all use for testing) but if their no good, what's the point in them.

Especially when the CTM portal are providing NHS PCR tests, but charging you £170 for the privilege.
They even come with the NHS literature.

I wouldn't disagree in general, but I think it's a fair point to ask why the discrepancy in this case.

Don’t doubt it, but the airline industry is on its knees, and with with furlough due to end in September, you would hope all parties would work together to make it easy and as cheap as possible for passengers
God knows how many people will lose their job in this industry, if they can’t get this sector moving again

That’s what I don’t understand.
It’s obvious that as the funding comes and is related to England’s policy nothing in Scotland can be done differently.
But why the hell are the airlines not trying to get cheaper or no tests (if you have been double jagged) set as policy?
It’s like they are making this up as they go along.

As a wee eye opener, it cost 200 euros for PCR test for me and my son. That was in a city 30 miles from Barca. £600 worth of tests to get my 15 year old over, plus flights etc. Sair one.
