Absolutely tragic, 4 confirmed dead with another 160 odd un-accounted for - and just reported now that seriously flaws in the building have been known for 3 years.
Looks like it could be deadlier than Grenfell, but with echoes of authorities not caring about the people.
He's here!

Really shocking. As you say, an engineer reported structural issues some time back due to water not being able to drain away from the base of the building which is on the seafront and built on reclaimed wetlands. Apparently it was due a multi-million dollar refit later this year.

I'd expect some serious jail time down the line for some people on this one.

How very insensitive and sad you have to belittle a tragedy like that. I'll leave you to gloat alone.

Most of grangemouth is also built on reclaimed land. Nothing higher than 4 storey buildings from what I remember.
When a new development was built in the 1970s the occupants complained that the doors were sticking on the floor, maintenance guys were going out and finding nothing wrong, the ground was rising when the tide was in and dropped again when it was out, this was a good 2 or three miles from the shore.

I think that was pointing out your naivety in expecting serious jail time for establishment figures when they ignore rules and profit is put before people. Nothing insensitive about it at all

FWIW there's probably more chance of convictions in the States for this than there is in the UK for Grenfell.
Have spent quite a bit time around that area of North Beach, Miami. Brutal thing to have happened.

I watched Philly DA and US corruption seems similar to ours without the school ties

It's been big news in South America as a lot of the missing people are from countries like Argentina and Paraguay, a few friends of the presidents of Paraguay and Argentina (or at least of their wives) are/were missing.

Last time I looked Grenfell was still standing, there's no comparison to be had there. Both tragedies in their own right but entirely different.

....nothing to do with Building Standards then?

The way tragedies unfolded is different. The outcome and build up to both of them is very similar.

That is more insensitive than anything I have read on this thread. Surely the only factors that are in play are Death/Injury and Control of the structures/maintenance. I can't believe anyone would really care about whether the building was still standing.

Apologies if I came across as such. The poster I was responding to has a habit of mentioning my name when I’m not even involved in a particular discussion. I won’t respond to him again and put him on ignore.

I see the confirmed death toll is now ten.
I expect it's gonna be a lot more than that, sadly.
