Can’t see this being mentioned anywhere, apologies if I’ve just missed it but I see we’ve got another strategic partnership on the go. This time with Civil Service Strollers (think I got the name right 😂)
Not really got any opinion on that to be honest. Dare say the club knows what it’s doing though. Could be good for our young players to get first team football against men.

I wonder if that’s why we’ve teamed up with them?
FWIW I find their name really annoying, I had to check it dozens of times before posting as I was sure I was going to get it wrong. Even now I’m looking at my post thinking I’ve made an arse of it

One of the oldest clubs around.A pal of mine played for them60 years ago. They had/have? a lovely ground and clubhouse at Silverknowes.
Great club. I remember some time ago they once had a fantastic striker 😉
I also had my wedding reception in the clubhouse.

Nothing annoying about it at all
I played for them when I worked in the Civil Service and their team happened to be called the ‘Strollers ‘
Cracking wee club great set up and facilities probably one of the best pitches around

I used to climb over the fence at the cattle track and play on the hockey pitches with the mates and even they pitches where like bowling greens

It's one of these quirky names that make football a bit more interesting, like Forres Mechanics or even Hamilton Accies.

Exactly…Inverurie Loco Works…wanted a shirt from them for a while, “loco” of course having a different interpretation in the southwest US.

Played in the side that beat Easthouses in the Final of the Thornton Shield at Old Victoria Park if that helps ?
Probably one of the best known names in Scottish football stalwarts of the East Seniors for years
One of the first scores I looked for in the Pink News after Hibs and HIBS Reserves of course :greengrin
The Tornadoes used to train there. I worked in the hermetically sealed Gas Board office across the road & I could still hear Turnbull shouting at the players!

Their under-14s? Can you get into the Civil Service at that age now then?

Actually scratch that, from a bit of googling seems they have a link with a youth football club, and have teams through all the age groups.
Were they effectively a works team for the Civil Service originally then? When did that change...

As I said earlier in the thread my father played in the 1930s and he was never in the civil service. Scary to find out now that your dad may have been a "ringer" - he never told me that!

I played against the Strollers a couple of times on a great pitch down at Muirhouse ( even had goal nets !!! )
it was the year I left school 1967-68 season and I think it was an under 21’s league.

what department Billy?
I joined the Civil service straight from school, but as I turned out to be an uncivil servant I left in 69.
I worked in the same building as former ref George Smith.

If you upload it here: https://imgbb.com/, you'll find a section underneath called 'Embed codes'. Look for 'Full image (linked)' and copy the text from the box labelled 'BBCode'. If you paste that directly into a post on here it should work (not certain if this works on mobile).

Yip!
Leith UBO was at t top o t Shore
The DHSS was at the bottom in Marine House
Many a night spent in the Drawbridge huddled roond the fire contemplating the long cold walk to the bottom of the Walk for a bus back to civilisation
Remember Dave Stewart as being Russell’s big pal a genial intelligent guy

Davie went into journalism and went to Manchester to work with Granada TV Sport - got to interview the Scots Managers and players at the time. Married Jayne Irving of GMTV fame - kinda lost touch but I still catch up with Russell. I don’t like asking your name on this board but he was laughing when you said “Wee Russell”. 😁👍
