Boris Johnson allegedly got married to Carrie Symonds at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday. Happy for him but that raises a few questions. Boris Johnson was baptised a Catholic, he renounced the Catholic faith for the Anglican Church, Westminster Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral, that would make Boris Johnson the first Roman Catholic PM.

Have I misunderstood something here?

No idea, mate, and I don't care what he calls himself. More importantly, has he yet decided how many kids he has? An empty, narcissistic, vulgar fool.

"shortly after 1.30pm, staff at the cathedral told visitors to evacuate as the building was going into lockdown"

Public space cleared for corrupt political leader's news-management opportunity. Did he have to hold a bible at any point, and if so did he manage to do it the right way up? :hmmm:

I think a lot would depend on what age he renounced his Catholicism.

Most of the mainstream Christian churches recognise the baptismal rite of the others. So someone baptised in the Anglican Church wouldn't have to be baptised again if they converted to Catholicism and vice versa.

If he completed the sacraments of reconciliation, Holy Communion and confirmation then, in the eyes of the Church, he's a Catholic unless he was excommunicated. It used to be possible to register an intention to no longer be a Catholic but the Vatican abandoned the set up almost as quickly as it started, when you consider it takes centuries for minor theological points to be clarified I don't think it's hard to work out why.

As for his marriage in a Catholic ceremony. The 2 explanations for that is he may have had his 1st 2 marriages formally annulled or because he was married outside the church they have been viewed as canonically irregular and thus invalid. Carrie Symonds is a practising Catholic so regardless of Johnsons own beliefs the Church would happily officiate at a 'mixed marriage' these days assuming everything is legally in order, that's both Canon and civil law.

More to the point, did his fingers start smoking and burst into flames when he held the bible 😉

Surely being the first ever Catholic Prime Minister, the Houses of Parliament should have self combusted when he first entered the hall.

Divert the press from talking about Cummings which the majority weren't going to do anyway.

There's a strange hierarchy system for Privy Council meetings surrounding religious sects. Catholics and non-Christian attendees enter at the end of the queue, or something equally Game of Thronesish.
