With what’s at stake and the fact we’re favourites this game could genuinely be the biggest game at Hibs in my 30 year lifetime.

The opportunity is there to put us in a position to grow as a club so much.

Maybe..there was a lot at stake in 2016...lost the LC final..lost the play offs looking at another season in the Championship..attendances would have dropped off massively and another SC Defeat would have been a hard one to take..plus Hearts would still have their songbook.

Certainly one of the two most important games in the last 30 years though, in many ways.

That was the catalyst for one of the biggest transformations of our club in a long time.

Not even close to 2016 in importance....

I’ve already received an e-mail from the club offering me Cup Final merchandise. Very slick marketing, more so than I’ve ever seen from Hibs before TBH!

What about 2016?

2016 was huge.

This is a totally different type of huge.

2016 was huge to stop us sinking with the season we’d had. It was huge to get the monkey off our back.

This season is huge to potentially kick on to a level that a non OF team hasn’t done in my life time.

Have you forgotten what happened 5 years ago?

I'm sure the financial gains getting flung around right now do not account for significant expenses. Don't get me wrong I want the extra cash for the club but I don't think it's as incredibly transformational as has been made out so far.

For example, when we sold SJM for 2-3m was it "transformational for the club"?

2016 was far bigger. No promotion, lost the League Cup final in the last minute. And a 114 year hoodoo. A defeat in the Scottish would have been too much.

First Hibs team in decades which does NOT have to carry the burden of 1902 into a Scottish Cup Final.

It's the Scottish Cup Final. It's always huge.

This year though the potential rewards are extra again. We saw the boost to ST sales and the lingering feel good factor from 2016. That will happen again but it will happen with us cemented as a top 6 side and lead to huge financial rewards and a European adventure most of us have never experienced.

First and foremost I want to win the cup but everything that goes with that is massive.

That was our biggest game since 2016 right there and we nailed it. The stakes for this year’s Scottish Cup are the greatest they have ever been (non-emotionally of course, nothing will ever top 2016 for us on that front). For the winners, aside from a SCOTTISH CUP (you know, that thing we waited 114 years for the last time?), an incredibly lucrative and long European journey awaits with a prize pot of money that would all but cover the COVID-19 pandemic losses and more. For the winners, whoever they might be, it will be transformational. I just really hope it is us.

CMurdoch

it is massive.
Circa £3 million at stake with European football guaranteed until Christmas.
All of which would importantly see us hang onto our best players for at least the rest of the year.
None of us has seen Nisbet or Doig live with the fist team so no small thing.

Losing SJM put a 2 or 3 million dent in our playing squad. We lost out on the park to gain financially. It took a couple of years to get some decent midfielders in and make up for his loss. This time it is a potential WIN/WIN and the £3M while maybe not including expenses doesn't include merchandise etc for winning the cup. It is a massive game and a chance to kick on

Easily our biggest game in five years.

Whether it's the biggest any further back is all just a matter of opinion

Hopefully we beat whichever version of The Saints we meet in the final.

It's our biggest game, since the last one.

It doesn't really compare to the last one but that doesn't mean it isn't absolutely huge.

What is absolutely crazy is we are here standing on the brink of multiple hibs players winning multiple Scottish Cups with Hibs, the team that didn't win the cup for 114 years.

I know if the players we have all perform we can win it, regardless of who we play, just have to hope that on the day it all comes together and we can get another team of legends, some double legends.

Oh and the Europe thing as well would be cool.

Being able to promise new signings european football until christmas will be a massive advantage in strengthening over the summer. 2016 was huge in a reparative sense - this is huge in a wholly upward and onward sense.

Wow - plus potentially Lewis winning 3 cups with Hibs.

McGregor, Gray, Boyle, Hanlon and Stevenson still around from 2016 team winning a 2nd Scottish Cup!

The possibility of at St Johnstone double?!

The possibility of St Mirren winning 4th Scottish Cup which is more than Hibs!!

We have the chance to win it for 4th time which would be 6th most often in Scotland (Celtic 40, Rangers 33 , Queens Park 10, Hearts 8, Aberdeen 7, Hibs 3) Though we have been runners up x11 - which is most behind Old Firm (who have obviously been in more finals).

Lot's at stake including the massive ££ windfall - though no ticket sales?!

2016 will never be beaten for the actual occasion of winning the cup. I’m not sure that anyone could have expected the transformative effects of it to be so huge though.

With hindsight they were of course huge but I genuinely believe this year could be even bigger in terms of the direction of the club. :agree:

Absolutely gutted for the players that they won't have the vocal backing of our wonderful support. Hibs v either of the Saints would see Hibs with 35/40k support through there in normal circumstances.

One of the biggest in terms of opportunity. 2016 was massive due to the failures that had came that season in terms of failed promotion and the league cup final defeat. Rangers had won the league that season though and were a tough team.
In terms of this year it’s a massive opportunity and a massive game because of what’s at stake and the opposition. Hibs quite rightly are favourites regardless of tomorrow’s result. The financial gains from winning the cup in terms of European competition could potentially propel us to the next level. Massive massive game, but probably on par at best with 2016 due to the circumstances that had led up to that (rebuild from butcher disaster etc.)
After 114 years though, 2 Scottish cups in 5 years would be pretty tasty.

Its huge for two simple reasons. This is a club that on average wins a major trophy about once every 15 years and that's if you count the leagues we have won, any cup final is massive.
Winning the cup in 2016 was a huge moment for all of us, but it was a huge moment because of years of failure, lost final after lost final, the whole point of that win surely has to be that it was the beginning of stopping that rot, that we would finally start fulfilling the potential of this club, another century long wait which might create a romantic moment for Hibs fans in 2116 isn't going to suit the 61 year old me.

This game is f'ing huge.

100% this.

This could be massive to take the club up a level and allow the club to grow even more.

2016 just kind of happened as there was nothing to lose really. Expectations were low after the playoff loss.

Two totally different situations.

As st mitten never got the licence for Europe what happens to the European place?

I'd expect them to appeal.

If not, then there was a decision made a few years ago that only the Cup winner would get the European spot. So either we win the Cup and get the European place, or it goes to the team that finishes third in the league which will probably be us.
