View Full Version : Josh Doig

Had a look but couldn't find another thread. Doig has been nominated into the final 4 of the young player of the year. He has had a great season and really deserves it. Should win it hands down when you see who the other 3 players are but this is Scotland after all. The other 3 are Lewis Ferguson, Nathan Patterson (why?) and David Turnbull.
Anyway, well done Josh.

Will be between Josh and Turnbull imo - Patterson is in there as the token sticky bun.

Paterson???? He’s had 14 games, 6 of them as a sub!
Ridiculous how there just has to be a Rangers player on the list.

Imo it should be a toss up between Turnbull or Doig, so Turnbull will probs win.
Ferguson had a bit of a sticky spell so hasn't been consistent enough and, as others have said, Patterson may look like a good player but not deserving of inclusion and if he played for anyone else he wouldn't have been.

The mananger list has been announced too:
-Clarke
-Davidson
-Gerrard
-Martindale
I'd be going Davidson with Clarke second. Probably be Gerrard though.
Martindale went on an amazing run but, dunno if he's been worked out, hasn't set the world on fire since. And seems to overthink things to the detriment of his team ie. Against us trying to nullify Boyle and sticking Marv out as a winger during the final.

To be honest, even though he's failed in the cups and despite the financial advantage they have, Gerrard probably deserves it for an unbeaten league season

Turnbull has had a very good season in an awful team.
Not much between him and Doig imo.
Ross must count himself unlucky not to be mentioned, but when you see how much some other chaps have achieved with minimal resource, I guess you can see why.

Would be Clarke then Gerrard out that list for me.
As for the players, Patterson should be nowhere near it but the other 3 all have a decent shout imo.
Doig has been the most impressive to me considering it’s his first season and his age but I don’t think that comes into consideration. I think it’ll be Ferguson due to his stats being pretty good.

Callum Davidson has done a tremendous job with St Johnstone, but I don't think there can be too many complaints if it's Gerrard given their league and European performances.
Great to see Doig getting recognition, he's been great this season.

I think Dick Campbell is unlucky not to be on that list. Arbroath are minnows in that league and he keeps guiding them to safety and upsetting the big boys. Very impressive.
I’d have him in there over Martindale.

It’s funny because if we end up 3rd and win the Scottish then an argument can be made as to why Jack Ross isn’t there

Very much so. Always thought that having a manager of the year award/nominations before the end of the season and before the final of the 2nd biggest prize in Scottish football was weird as there could still be lots to win or lose. Martindale had a very good period as manager back in the winter, yet Livi are currently below where they finished last season. 3rd/4th place and Scottish Cup winners and Jack Ross should certainly be in their before Martindale.

If Gerrard gets an award he'll have to dedicate it to the referees. Without them they wouldn't have gone unbeaten this season.

Out of the games we would set out at the start of the season as being indicators as to whether or not we have kicked on, he has one win at home to Aberdeen to show for it.

A pretty good indicator of whether we’ve kicked on or not would be our league position. We were 7th last season. 3rd just now. 100% we have kicked on.
Josh Doig wins the award for me. Best option out of this available. Can’t believe Patterson is in there.

He has done for years. Mates with Fergie and has continued learning and developing in the same manner.
Not the right fit for us but him and his brother deserve a final pop at a top flight team.

Rediculous. Nothing more than a token gesture. Whilst extremely grateful Clarke has overseen us qualify there has been poor results in his tenure. The collapse in the nations league plus the bang average start we have made in WC qualifying.
Even guys like John McGlynn are far more deserving to be on that list.

If St Johnstone do the cup double, and it's eminently possible, it's an absolute no brainer for MOTY.

Patterson seems to be a decent young player but he has only played something like half a dozen league games for the huns....should not be near YPOTY.

Paterson is understudy to the player who will presumably win the senior POTY - you surely can't just have a wee cameo appearance of 6 or 7 starts and win YPOTY.
He does look like he has a big future, but come on.

Personally feel that a Celtic or Rangers manager need to do something truly exceptional to be considered for MOTY. Something like Brendan Rodgers invincible treble for instance. Rangers haven't even made the semi of either cup. Davidson is the winner for me however as someone said, if Hibs finish 3rd and win the cup having been in the semi of the other cup too it would seem pretty ridiculous that he wasn't included.

I’m not sure about that in regards to the OF. Going a full league season unbeaten is quite an achievement.

He needs that experience. An example was an opportunity last ten to either drag the ball upfield or play a pass. He cuts inside, loses it pretty easily at halfway and we are under a bit of pressure with him out of position. Love him to bits though and at 18 he is beyond his years.

Yep remember that run as I was willing him to keep going forward, not sure why he cut inside. Hard to see the full picture on the TV, but don't think anyone was directly in front of him. I think Irvine done something similar instead of knocking the ball to the right where Hallberg was in plenty space he went left and we lost possession (I could be wrong with both players lol).
