I know I'm pretty biased but it is probably the best SC final of all time. The back story, Hibs history in the cup, losing LC final that year, the captain scoring a last minute winner after being behind, the pitch invasion, the fact we actually played them off the park for 75 mins, the parade. The whole thing was just magical

I hate myself for saying this but it's not really up to us to decide if it was a classic final. It was a humdinger and I'd expect neutrals loved it but in terms of what-happened-on-the-day I reckon we're grappling with 1982, 1991 and 2003, and maybe others before that that I don't know about. Allowing the back story though we win hands down.

Have spoken to numerous fans who support different teams from Aberdeen to Cowdenbeath before Scotland games who have always asked me what the 21st of May felt like.

Braw. The new Walter Presents series Ice Cold Murders which started last night on More 4 can GTF.
In fact, is it too late to get that other Walter to present the re-run show? That would be a good watch. Water Presents The Ice Cold Murder of the Huns.

You forgot to mention the play offs for promotion, I came away from Falkirk stadium cursing Hibs that night, then to win the cup and the way we played then the parade on the Sunday and for me went off to Spain for five days golfing with a celtic and hertz fan, who couldn't get me off cloud nine, the whole thing was just majical, if we go on to win it this year it will be great but that cup win won't be bettered in my opinion.

I'd think a neutral would have enjoyed it regardless of the respective back stories.

This might sound weird but I remember watching that and hoping United would win.

I don't have any particular attachment to United, other than some great away games and a respect for what they'd achieved under McLean, but felt almost like a pseudo United supporter on the day.

No question. The classic of classics.

It was so good that my Rangers pal admitted, in a moment of weakness, that it felt like a privilege to be part of such an occasion.

He’s a raging Hun but even he could recognise it as a stand out classic.

It was an excellent game of football. Two attacking teams with great goals and some very good chances that could have been goals. Stokes chance just before Gary's goal...

I’ve watched all the episodes so far and they’ve had Cowen and Cosgrove and Stewart and Thompson as “pundits” on other episodes. I don’t think it really makes any difference- there’s no time for in depth analysis.

Dont know about BBC classics ive just spent the last couple of hours, glass of wine in hand (it is friday night afterall), watching numerous Hibs clips on Youtube, David Grays goal from every angle, all the goals from the final, the invasion, the return to Edinburgh plus a few nostalgic wins over Hearts, Conrads heroics against tomorrows opponents, back further to big European nights, AEK, the old footage in Barca etc etc.

Cant wait to visit Easter Road next, cant wait for tomorrow.

Still vividly remember finally making it back to the car on the 16th May... didnt understand the tone from Cosgrove and Cowan, was as if someone had died..

Was an odd feeling as clearly I couldnt have been more elated and hearing this on the car radio was jarring.

I wonder if they ever consider their reaction to the win/ pitch invasion. Did they discuss this as part of the show?

My inclination would be that as time has passed the faux/justified (delete as you see fit) outrage has been watered down by time, the drama, the history and simply what a brilliant final it was.

The fact that we all love a laugh at the rangers is just the cherry on top :D

Going off on a tangent here but I remember after the game we were going back to Pitlochry as we had a log cabin booked and me and a couple of mates had left the wife’s up there while we went to the game. Anyway, we went to a supermarket to pick up supplies in Perth and fans of a few other clubs including Dundee Utd, St Johnstone and Celtic were all stopping us for a chat and were arguably as excited about what had happened as we were. It was surreal.

I think the only people that bothered about the pitch invasion were the media and Rangers fans/players. The rest of the country viewed it in the same light as the Scottish fans running onto the pitch at Wembley.

Was actually good to hear one of the pundits last night mention that.

I was at the game with a DU supporting mate and didn't feel like a classic at the time. But had become one I think the disallowed goal, the way the game played out, goalie injury and the last minute equaliser give it a something of a great narrative . I Watched last years replay and it was like watching a different sportc a very hard tackling scrappy match.

Genuinely in tears again re-watching the game haha.

It's the odd moment here and there that brings back a memory of my view from the stand or feelings at certain times that really gets me. Like the Millar header off the bar or Fyvie delaying his pass to stokes for the chance before the last corner.

Just brings something back and I start greeting again, you just could not write a better cup win, all the circumstances for the full run in not even that one game.

I found it a really enjoyable watch
No idea who the 2 women were (both former professionals) but they didn’t really contribute much
The 2 lads were very good - “I’m no longer the most famous person from Roslin” 😂
From the snippets you could (over)hear - the bbc commentary sounded pretty bias towards our opponents
Tbh I don’t think I’d heard the bbc commentary before - it was no ITS LIAM HENDERSON TO DELIVER
Surprised they didn’t show the hun penalty shout (Stevenson foul)
BUT they gave a very fair review of the pitch exuberance
They were all heroes but I forgot what a brilliant game Fyvie had
Any excuse to rewatch this in a new form

Quite right too.
Do you have any gaps of interest in your England collection Lancs? I’ve nothing rare but I’d fill a gap for nowt for a good Hibby if I could, late 50s to mid 60s Stick it on Collectors Corner if you have a desire.

Thanks Iggy appreciate that. Its not an England collection really, I used to collect football programmes religiously but sold most of my collection about 8 or 9 years ago. These days I just pick up things of interest to me. I do have all Hibs European home games though and all but 4 or 5 of Hibs cup semi finals and finals since the war (both league cup and Scottish cup). Almost by accident (well interest) I do have quite a few England v Scotland programmes, I think we have played something like just over 50 times sice the war I have about half of them, they are quite easy to pick up so maybe I'll attempt to complete the series. Its better than collecting stamps :greengrin

Thoroughly enjoyed watching that, although the tears were welling up long before the finish. Never fails.
If ever a football match was worthy of becoming a Hollywood blockbuster, it's this one. It's got everything, drama, suspense, passion, never-say-die resolve and the happiest of happy endings. Superb.

Couldn't agree more
