Reports state that UEFA are expected to allow national teams to bring 26-man rather than 23-man squads for the Euro’s this summer. Hopefully means a better chance of Nisbet and perhaps one or two others to make the cut.

With McBurnie out Nisbet must have a great chance unless Shankland and/or Griffiths have spectacular finishes to the season.
Personally think Porto should have a chance but don’t know if it’s too late for him now.

If Ryan continues playing like he played Saturday definitely would help having standout games in semi and final.

If he keeps chipping in with goals over the next month I think that seals Nisbet’s involvement.

No chance. Nisbet, Griffiths, Dykes and the boy from Southampton.

Topical given his couple of goals at the weekend, prior to that he’d scored 3 goals all season. No chance he’ll be considered......he’ll go and score a hat trick against us in the semi now🙈😂

I think he's playing better now than when he was in the Squad for last Falls qualifiers
one day maybe...

I know he's not a Hibs player but like to see the boy Patterson at Rangers called into the squad. Decent RB in my opinion " I'll now go wash my mouth out with soap"

I think he will make the squad which would be an amazing achievement considering this time last year he was in the Scottish championship with Dunfermline.

Allows Clark to add in a couple of wildcards perhaps? Billy Gilmour may make the cut now.

Think you should need to play for your team to get in the Scotland squad. He has potential of course but think he’s appeared in 2 league games?

Agree. Turnbull more likely to get that wildcard.
I'll say Nisbet is a certainty and Porteous 75%

So he’s penalised because he’s at one of the biggest clubs in Europe rather than playing for a mid table championship side or an SPFL side? He’s one of the most talented players we have, with the biggest potential, should be on the plane a long way ahead of Turnbull if it’s a straight shoot out between the two.

Unfortunately yeah. He’s a 19 year old who isn’t playing first team football. His time will come if he is good enough.
He’s up against more experienced players also playing for big enough clubs such as Man Utd, Villa, Celtic, Southampton etc.
With the Euros coming up I’m not sure if he pushed for a loan or if he expected to play more for Chelsea but it is tricky for him to argue that he should be in there just now.

Turnbull and Nisbet would/will be in the original 23 man squad. Jack is out so Turnbull will take his place.
Agree with Patterson and think it allows us to take James Forrest so that leaves one more.

Patterson is another that I’m not buying into just yet.
I’m sure he’s decent but he’s played in like 6 senior league games. He’s managed to get himself a lengthy ban in that short time too for being an idiot.
Might say something about our right back options of course but if he was coming through at most other clubs he wouldn’t be meriting a mention.

With 3 extra players allowed I'd be taking a punt on Ryan Gauld. He's tearing it up in Portugal at the moment.

On Gilmour, he doesn’t need to push for a loan, he’s training day in day out with world class players, in and around the squad and tonight on the bench in a champions league semi final. To compare him to Turnbull is night and day. Turnbull can be playing all he wants but he can barely see past 60 minutes without blowing a gasket.
Patterson was playing in Europa league last 16 ties, and was a standout for rangers in the few league games he played. Our current right back has been poor in a bottom half SPFL side, I think it’s fairly clear who the better player is.
The increase in squad size is the perfect opportunity to get younger players in and show what they’re worth.

Fair enough on Patterson.
No point in Gilmour training and being on a bench if he’ wants to play international football.
There’s been suggestions he is currently a world class player. He just can’t prove that until he has a good run of games for someone.
Mason Greenwood is 19 too I think. I’m not sure I’ve heard him referred to as world class. He’s played almost 100 times for Man Utd.

You’ve not heard anyone say Greenwood is world class?
Gilmour has played all (I think) Chelsea’s cup ties. No one is asking him to be starting for Scotland, but he should certainly be in an extended squad, he’s more than capable as shown time and again for Chelsea to step in, and the experience will do him the world of good.

Not really. For example, last week Pogba was saying Greenwood could become world class in the future but that he has to keep working at it.
Gilmour needs to figure out a way into playing club football first I think and then international football can come.
He can’t really have shown time and again for Chelsea - cup ties included he has hardly played.

No I havnt either because he’s not world class. He’s a good player and has the potential to have a great career, world class not by a long shot. That’s what’s wrong with people, young lads break into a big clubs first team for a season or 2 in and out the team and suddenly he’s world class, simply not the case. Imo

Exactly. He’s only just establishing himself as regular Man U class. Albeit I’ve little doubt he’ll turn out to have a cracking career as you say.

I’m not saying he is world class, just like I’m not saying Gilmour is, he’s 100% been described as world class by plenty though, including Rio Ferdinand on a near weekly basis.

This is the gamble very talented players make though. Stay at an elite club and try to force your way past some very good players or move elsewhere and increase your chances of first team football.
Billy Gilmour has apparently made 11 appearances this season, mostly off the bench. Is that enough? I don’t think so.
He’s obviously a real talent but probably too much of a wildcard for these championships.

We aren’t looking for a key player though. In fact we probably won’t be looking at any players in 24-26 positions that will get any game time at all. So why would you not take a younger player for the experience?
Move to a lesser club, with worse training methods and facilities, that hardly sounds like a recipe for improving as a player, especially when you are getting game time, albeit sparse. 11 appearances for Chelsea is far better than 30 for Celtic IMO.

The loan system works, crazy to suggest there’s no benefit to dropping down a level and playing games.
If we are comparing taking Gilmour to say Turnbull or even Gauld there are huge differences in their playing time and experience.
At any senior level at all Gilmour is showing as a total of 8 league games and 19 appearances in total. A large number of those will also be subs appearances.
Turnbull had a long term injury for a young man but he has had over 70 senior appearances for Motherwell and Celtic. He has 24 senior goals.
Gauld has well over 200 senior appearances now. 37 goals.
The lad has to play some football before being taken to a major international tournament ahead of other players playing for their clubs.
Far more likely to see someone John Fleck being taken with his significant experience now.

Gauld should be in the squad as well as one of the extra three men. Fleck is a weird example, he’s been in most of Scotland’s recent squads. If you can’t see the benefit of taking a very young but exceptionally talented player as one of the extra men then fair enough.
Gilmour is 2 years younger than Turnbull and is a better player.
There are far more benefits staying at Chelsea than going out on loan, no one will convince me otherwise.

Not if he went to a decent EPL team and played every week. A world of difference between playing occasional very good game and playing every week. He has been injured also so that needs to be taken into account.

Chelsea have played 33 league games this season.
In that time Billy Gilmour has been selected to play only 34 minutes of those 33 games and since the new manager has come in has struggled to even get a place on the bench.
Played 190 minutes of league football last season.
That all equtes to a 2 and a half league game career to date.
Has great potential but needs to play and make his mark in league games.
Maybe he can do that next season whether at Chelsea or on loan.
Will only be 20 when next season starts so lots of time but little point in taking him to the Euro's given he already has daily experience of training and rubbing shoulders with top players and being a non playing part of a squad.
Sadly played on for 35 minutes after sustaining his knee injury in July. Hopefully there will be no long term effect from that.
Appears to be have been trapped at Chelsea, not good enough to play but good enough keep around. If he wasn't so good he would have been allowed to go out on loan but that may happen next season given the new manager appears less impressed by Gilmour than Lampard.

Gauld is a really weird shout considering how many people are touting him that can’t possibly have seen him play.
I’d guess he’d be like a man short at international level ... same as he was at SPFL level when we last had sight of him.
He plays in a league where they play at a sedate pace which probably suits him .

Gauld played a few games and was coming into decent form when he got injured playing for us..as I recall after being out for a number of weeks he barely got any minutes on his return from injury , so I can’t quite understand your analysis here .
I’ve no idea whether he is Scotland level or not, but it’s clear he has had an excellent season and I’m sure he will go on to have a decent next few years

It’s not weird at all. By all accounts he’s been tearing teams apart this season and received a number of man of the match awards recently. It’s weird you’re wanting to write the laddie off because it didn’t work out at Hibs after injury by dismissing the Portuguese premier league as “sedate”.

In my opinion he's decent, I'm not sure if he's ready to start, but he really should be involved in the squad. if Doig wasn't left sided I'd say he should be in there too, but he's got a few good players in front of him just now.

I haven’t seen much of Patterson yet but would agree he shouldn’t be involved purely because he’s played a few games for that lot. Hopefully he does prove to be a good Scotland player in future, whether that’s the immediate future or not.
But we could really do with better in that position than the two mainstays you mention.
