Say what you want about it but the last few days of football has had it all. The most entertaining cup quarter finals i can remember. Drama, passion, excitement the lot. Was glued to my seat for three of the cup ties until the very end. I really dont think we give our game enough credit sometimes. Roll on the semis!

No kidding. The quarters have been relentlessly entertaining.

Like most folk I guess, when games started again after the initial lockdown last year I would watch games from anywhere and did. But as time's gone on its the Scottish games that I'll now chose to watch when I can mostly take or leave others from elsewhere. Obviously I've more of an interest in games here anyway, but still, for the most part, I tend to find them more watchable than other leagues. There tends to usually be some kind of story or grudge as well, which helps.

That can't be right. Perez the Saviour of Football swears all anyone wants to watch is European Super Clubs

They have been great with the exception of the Dundee United v Aberdeen match which was over early on.

Last night's game was scrappy but ended up exciting enough.

There was also a tie earlier in the cup when some non-league team who hadn't played for months beat an expensively constructed lower league team.

Zander Clark’s nonsense was tremendous viewing alone.

Said it on the match thread that I would watch any of the 1/4 finals before the English league Cup final. Man City are pretty to watch but that game had none of the excitement of the 1/4s. We maybe aren't as technical as the top English, Spanish, Italian clubs etc but by christ our games can be way more exciting. And probably a reason that by head of population we have higher actual attendances than any other country

Yep brilliant entertainment would have been even better with fans in the ground. We really should talk the game up way more than we do.

Extra time and pens instead of replays has added to it massivley i think. I hope we stick to that format.

The Dundee United V Aberdeen game was a credit to the way Dundee united played. Some of their stuff was really slick.

We need to show them respect.

Yup. The only reason i didn't mention their game was that they were so good it was over pretty quickly.

Agree with OP. Scottish Football has the potential to be very very exciting and better to watch than English Football as they are handcuffed with VAR and all that the ridiculous money brings. Scottish football has arguably been better to watch these last few years.

How good would it be if the league was more competitive - I mean a 16/18 team league playing each other twice. I think it would be brilliant.

I also think that the shorter time frame between rounds in the cup has added to the drama. I often think that the quarter finals and the round before still feels a long way off the possibility of reaching a final but the excitement has been there this time around.

I hope we consider keeping a similar timeframe for the cup. I think it's been a breath of fresh air.

:agree: ... Could have started this thread myself. Watched all the games live apart from the St Johnstone one which I watched on Sportscene's highlights and every one was a nail biter to the end apart from the Dundee Utd game which was entertaining in it's own way with some nice football by United and a super 3rd goal.

All 4 games were a brilliant advert for Scottish football, yes they lacked the clinical technicality of the EPL or La Liga, but lacked nothing in effort or entertainment, which they delivered in spades ... take a bow Scottish football :aok:

Dundee Utd. showed they will be a tough match for us, but let’s not forget that Aberdeen were a toothless shambles.

Good football to watch is nothing to do with players wages or VAR or the size of a stadium, TV deal or even technical ability. It's down to entertainment and Scottish Football has that in absolute droves.

It's one of the best leagues in Europe to watch.

Agree the timeframe has helped however logistically a challenge when fans back re selling tickets, organising buses etc

Agree the one good thing to me is that we have now seen them play that well and can come up with plans to combat that. Their defence can definitely be got at don't think Smith Robson Reynolds will have their problems to seek against our attacking players.

Totally agree with both of these. I've probably always been a bit of a traditionalist before, and for smaller teams the prospect of a big money replay (heh) would be taken away, but this format has been way more exciting. It might not be practical in normal times to have the cup calendar so condensed (don't know why not, but I'm sure someone would have an objection) but with Hibs having something to play for in both the league and cup its been big game after big game for the last few weeks and its been brilliant.
