I've read a lot on here that says 3rd place, and now obviously the Scottish Cup winners, would only be 1 win away from the Europa League group stage.
However, both the SFA website, and other sources, suggest the Scottish Cup winners enter in the 3rd qualifying round. Winning that round would only send you into the final play-off round.
The Scottish side would still have to win that before entering the group stage.

I thought that too at one point, but it’s been covered a number of times.
For this season only, two countries have been ‘promoted’ on a round, Scotland and (I think) Denmark. I think it was to do with the fact the the new European conference should have begun this season, but didn’t, and there were extra places. Someone will explain it better.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Incredible that the governing body, and our national broadcaster, don't know this yet according to their own articles.

It's also pretty poor that 3rd/4th in the league need to negotiate 3 qualifying rounds just to qualify for the new Europa Conference.

:agree:
It's a shame we're so far back with those qualifying routes. There's too many permutations and routes for teams to end up down in the final rounds of the qualifying/playoffs coming out of the Europa and champions league to know exactly what sort of quality to expect but I think we'd be in for a tough time of it trying to qualify from the lesser European places unless we're seeded?
The teams currently in the spots that would be the final playoff round include Villarreal, Liverpool (more likely spurs), Lazio, Leverkusen...

The fact the Scottish teams out with Celtic and Rangers continually fail to negotiate these early rounds suggests our entry points are correct. If Scottish clubs were breezing through the early qualifiers with ease we’d have a legitimate argument to enter later but we don’t and our country coefficient is impacted because of that.

According to what you guys have posted above, is this where we are at.
SC Winners =
Play off round for the europa league groups, if loss - conference league group place.
3rd/4th place =
3 rounds of playoffs to reach the conference league group.

The cup winners qualify for the Europa League play offs, win that and it's into the Europa League group stages, lose and it's into the Europa Conference League group stages.
3rd/4th qualify for the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa Conference League. There's 3 rounds to negotiate to get into the group stages.
If we win the cup, the Europa Conference League qualifying spots will go to 4th and 5th.

SFA announced this in January and the BBC has produced multiple articles mentioning it.
Lots of things to bash both bodies about but this is not one.
Huge money-spinner for whoever wins the cup. It may well result in more prize cash than winning the league!

Mad how much better the reward is for winning the cup over what 3rd place gets. Maybe it just seems worse in Scotland than other countries due to the OF dominance. You'd think though that 3rd would at least get into the Europa Conference a round later than 4th.

That's just extra motivation for St Johnstone to pip Livi to 5th place. If they lose to us in the Cup Semi/Final they might/will have the consolation of European football. Our game(s) against St J in the league and possibly the Cup could define our season.

The league does not matter anymore.

It does matter to the team in 5th place. If we win the cup then due to us either finishing 3rd or 4th in the league, the Europa Conference League spot which is due to us will be passed onto the team in 5th place.

The league does not matter anymore.
To who?
£250k difference in prize money between 3rd and 4th says it matters.
The folk that would be out for JR’s blood if we ended up 4th says it matters. (Any excuse for them to be fair tho)

It does. More importantly the mentality matters. Having goals and achieving them. The team would deserve respect for achieving third and I hope we remember that.
There are plenty outside of hibs talking us down without us writing off our own achievements.
There is great incentive to win the cup. I get that. It will be a massive blow to not win it given what is at stake. But lets not undo our good work by failing to recognise where we have done well. We don't finish third enough to dismiss it's significance.

A bit of a concern concerning a Uefa rejig for next season.
Coefficient guru Bert Kassies is now suggesting Scottish Cup winners will go into third round of Europa League (EL Q3) and not the play-off, so no direct parachute into Conference League and no guaranteed European football until Christmas.
Win the thing then worry about it...
