...that neither Rangers or Celtic appeared in either of the Cup Semi Finals in the same season?

:hmmm:

EDIT: I meant any incarnation of Rangers, :-)

:hmmm:

85/86? Hibs lost to Aberdeen in one semi at Dens who in turn went on to lose the final to the famous double winning Hearts team. Can't remember who they beat in their semi though.

This wasn't actually intended as a trick question but I can see how it's come across like that.

Sorry

This was on twitter -

Last time neither old firm team were in a:
Scottish Cup semi final: 2006
Scottish League Cup semi final: 2014
The last time neither made either semi final : Never happened before...
This is Scottish Footballing History !

I actually thought that, but wasn't sure.

I've now looked extensively through the records and can't find a single season (obviously only since 1946) without at least one of them in the semi-finals

Or Hearts or Aberdeen? Absolutely incredible chance for us to win a trophy this season. What happened last time we lost a league cup final again?

Yes, it has never happened. League Cup has only existed since WW2 and every year since then at least one of the Glasgow two has made the semis of at least one of the two cup competitions. Until this year. That it has happened in a year when The Rangers are unbeaten in the league makes it even more amazing.

I was asking same question yesterday. Amazing piece of history. Also that 3 of 4 semi finalists may be same in both comps!!

Also quite significant that only 2 of the semi finalists are even in the top 6

Hopefully, no team wins anymore than one trophy this season.

That would be St Johstone, then.

How embarrassing would it be for the 'best of the rest' clubs (e.g. Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs) if St Johnstone were the first non Old Firm club in nearly four decades to win two trophies in the same season...

PLUS have the highest number of Trophies out of all non Old Firm clubs this century.

Yup, just checked - this has NEVER happened before. Quite remarkable.

I should add that the irony is not lost on me that this is the season Premier Sports acquired preferential rights to both cups. :tee hee:

Was looking at St Johnstone last 6 games.

They haven't scored more than 1 goal in any. Concede very few as well.
