I really like Chris Iwelumo as a co commentator. Inciteful and not full of the usual cliches and I think wee lewy has done some work on his upper body at the gym in his down time.

I thought he was full of cliches but his enthusiasm got me past that. The amount of times he said a Hibs player was obviously a top player after making an arse of something was mental.

To be fair he is enthusiastic which cant be said of a lot of Commentators and so called experts. He could learn to take a breath every now and again though.

He was that, I actually really enjoyed listening to him, his knowledge was fairly decent and his enthusiasm for the game was infectious. Prerequisite for me of being on comms is actually sounding like you are engaged and enjoying what you are watching.

He also said he’d called a challenge wrong at one point. Rarely do they do that even after staring the opposite in the face.

Hearts v Morton is on the BBC soon, he'll probably sound like the Rev I.M. Jolly for that one.

His excessive use of "you know what" and "it's one of them" annoyed me.

Yeah I like him too. He doesn't seem to be old firm orientated and knows his stuff about the smaller teams. For me Bartley, Stewart, McFadden, McCoist and Neil McCann are all good too. The Boyd, Alex Rae, Thommo, Shelly Fraser, Pat Bonner, English, Levein, Preston, Craigan and the like are honking. Kyle also is a major tube.

Much prefer him to Dave proven, every right to hit that.

You mean the amount of times he said 'fantastic' when it really wasn't. To be fair though he was more engaging than others have been on the BBC or SKY.

You know what? I agree. It's one of them oft repeated phrases that really annoys me.
I liked him. More fresh air than Nisbet's early chance.

Yeah that too. You can tell he’s obviously raw to it, but between that and sportscene the other week I’m mightily impressed by him. He’ll improve the speech side of it with experience, what to say and when, but the enthusiasm was great.

Amazing how opinions can differ - I quite like the guy as well but thought he was closer to painful than enjoyable in the commentary box today.
Like I’ve said plenty times before though, it doesn’t seem an easy gig the co-commentary one, and he is new to it.

Yep, different & an upgrade on the usual, can listen to more of that.

Lol the one that annoys me is James Mcfadden starting every sentence with "Listen...". I actually think Mcfadden isn't too bad otherwise

Alex Rae is the worst. Always has to include Rory or Stephen into his responses. Wee scrote that he is.

He’s up there and you can hear his seethe when things aren’t going rangers’ way. Him and Craigan together are painful, albeit sometimes amusing, listening.
But I give you Steve Mcmanaman. I think he’s the only that would genuinely make me turn the sound otf.

Now that really does bug me. It's like starting what you are going to say with "shut up for a minute you, cos what I've got to say is far more important". A bit like Harry Enfield's very important person.

Apparently the 1st 3 goals were 'ugly' I had to rewind after Boyles goal to see if had heard him right.

I eventually stopped counting how many time he said "you know what"
I agree with the general comments that he is at least enthusiastic but needs to cut down his word count quite a bit.

That's 'Street Talk'. Get with the program, Grandad!
(I've no idea what any of that means, but it's the usual reply I get from my son :-) )

Chris Iwelumo - One of the better co-commentators and pundits, if only because (as others have mentioned) he is mostly enthusiastic and positive. He does say "Ask the question of the goalkeeper" about 300 times a match though :greengrin
Lewis looks more and more like Dr David Banner every week...I think he's taking his frustration at not being picked out on the gym.

I noticed that too when he took that first throw in, lads been hitting the weights. Obviously John Collin's influence in his early career.

Ha! I'm sort of the opposite. I find him draining as a pundit on Sportscene - the long bouts of cliché are really wearing. But I thought he was fine yesterday as a co-commentator basically because he says less, so the bouts are much shorter. And as others have said, his enthusiasm in that context is good.
My main problem with him more generally is that I was at that game at Hampden vs. Norway, sat in line with the goal, and I still can't understand how he missed it...

It's not really a case of liking or disliking any co-commentator as a lot of it I just tend to ignore.
Two things though - I thought it was slightly ironic of Chris Iwelumo saying how a striker should put the ball into the net given his attempt when playing for Scotland
And 2) - All commentators/analysts/pundits that don't know the difference between those and them!
Mind you, I do miss how Charlie Nicolas used to mangle the English language whilst on Super Saturday

Yesterday was the first time I’ve watched a game with Iwelumo, I was really impressed by his enthusiasm. We need far more people like him doing the games.

And “he’s got to ask the question.” I thought he was a bit repetitive and didn’t add much despite his constant talking. Maybe he needs to speak a big less and comment when it adds to what you can see on the TV. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, he may settle into the role.

I was disappointed the main commentator didn't bring that up after KN's miss.
I like him. I didn't realise he was Scottish until he started doing punditry. I had wrongly assumed he was one of the "my granny once drank Irn Bru" brigade for some reason.

Kevin Nisbet starting to have too many Iwelumo moments ( sitters) for me.
