For me, this was a terrific read and it encapsulates my thoughts about how the Labour Party should be proceeding.

I particularly liked this line; "Biden has achieved more in two months than those who like to trumpet their radicalism manage in a lifetime."

Biden can barely string a sentence together, he looks like he's been pumped full of something just to keep him awake.

Even if that is the case and personally don't think it is he is still materially better than who he replaced.

It's a sad state of affairs that in a country of that size and power those were the 2 options, it just goes to show how corrupt a **** show it all is. And it's not just over there, it's all over the world.

It’s tremendously partial.

The $trillion stimulus package is indeed a great thing. It would reflect a lot better on Freedland if he acknowledged that the architect of the bill was actually Bernie, who hes been snippy about in the opening paragraph.

It would also be a bit more balanced if he acknowledged without the unified coalition of the whole Democratic Party, Biden doesn’t win. The progressives and grass roots activism were the driving force behind voter drives, huge turnouts in poor and black areas which gave Biden the win, all polling shows that. I listen to Freedlands podcast every week and I don’t think his US politics programme has even mentioned Bernie or Omar or AOC before, he likes to pretend they don’t exist. He actually goes further in the opening paragraph suggesting Biden was fighting AGAINST the unhelpful progressives, which is just rubbish.

I think the lesson the US experience teaches all political parties is put the ****ing knives away, build a broad coalition of everyone, and concentrate your fire on the enemy. Bidens succeeded by doing that.

Have to wait and see if he has the staying power for that. 😉

Good summary and if the Labour Party had got behind Corbyn, instead of the right wing briefing against him, then he may have been PM now.

If Labour had chosen a credible leader in the first place, he would be PM now.

I like him, seems like the American progressives like him, and shameless refusal to sanction crown Prince bin salman aside, seems like he’s made a good start.

I don’t recall much loyalty from Corbyn when he was a back bencher.

There's a few things I'm still waiting on him to fix, for instance conditions in the Immigrant Detention Centres (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56491941) (no press allowed?), but he's a whole lot better than the orange monster he replaced.

I don't remember the left carrying Tony Blair shoulder high as he won 3 elections in a row.

I agree. He's had a good start but I think that article is a little much given he's been 2 months in the job. A lot more challenges ahead that will test his credentials.

Amen :agree:

One of the biggest heroes of the US election is Stacey Abrams: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stacey_Abrams

Without her, no senate.

Nonsense. It's well known that he has a stutter, albeit he's largely overcome it, and at times he has stumbled over words, but some of his e.g. presidential debates, inauguration address etc. was thoughtful and articulate. The characterisation of basement Biden riddled with dementia has been promoted by the US right wing media for months, but that doesn't make it true.

The Labour party is a ****ing shambles. The tantrums after Rebecca Long-Bailey - who would have been an even worse leader of the opposition than Starmer has been - were an embarrassment.

It's almost as if the entire opposition has gotten fed up of opposing the government and are happier in opposing each other.

What concerns me is that if someone else takes the points of the article and acts, there's political ground to be made and it may end up being a party that are even worse than the bunch we have in government right now.

What’s your point here? Are you suggesting he is unable to govern effectively because he’s too old? Why not just argue that point in relation to the implementation of his policies instead of this infantile pish?

Did you see his first press conference from the White House ? An uncomfortable watch to say the least.

People are perhaps going to think 'infantile' if other people come out with lines that either were or could have been campaign slogans directly outta the Orange Baby's mouth.

Perhaps, then again people might just not like hearing other peoples opinion, seems to be a recurring theme by certain posters.

Saying that someone can hardly string 2 sentences together isn't an opinion.

It's a nasty, and yes, infantile, slur. No-one likes to hear those.

I didn't know that. Certainly changes my opinion of his speaking abilities.

FWIW, nobody that's suffered from a really bad stutter ever gets over it 100%.

I didn't see it as a slur at all, I'm stating an opinion. Trump is subjected to all kinds of infantile pish as you like to call it, do you find that acceptable?

To be fair to you, I’m fairly sure ive accused Trump and probably various ministers (Gavin Williamson?) of the same, so it’s not something in itself that I’d give you a hard time for.

However, now you know he has a stutter he’s been fighting his whole life, maybe it’s classier just to step away.

I didn't know he had a stutter, and that's not even what I was inferring when I typed what I did. But fair do's :aok:
I watched the presidential debates and I thought both of them could barely string a coherent sentence together, I happen to think the same of bungling Boris btw.
The United States is in a sorry mess if an old man is the best they can come up with out of a population of 330 million.

Infantile pish is infantile pish whoever says it and whomever it's about.

What you said wasn't an opinion. You stated it as fact.

Btw, I didn't use the word "pish".

If we're being honest Biden could spend the next 4 years just having a ham shank live in front of the nation and everyone would be screaming "WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!"

I'd rather have pat stantons opinion on hibs than you or mine. Yes he's had a bad stutter most of his life. I'm surprised they didn't make more of it, but you can't make trump look like more of an ******** I suppose

Possibly, but that's because his wanking wouldn't have helped hundreds of thousands die through not taking a pandemic seriously, or put back racial tensions 30 years
