View Full Version : Prophet Muhammad School Teacher Suspension

What do we make of this?
Extremists hijacking for advancing wider aims?
Are the silent majority afraid to speak out for fear of attack, abuse and even death?
Outrageous reactions imo and cannot understand the suspension of the teacher who must now be terrified and in hiding.

Probably.
Got to say that unless the teacher has been living on the moon for decades, then doing something like this, especially in that part of the country, was only going to end one way.

A pretty basic understanding of the faith of many of their pupils would have avoided the situation.
Either they are not clued-up, not properly trained, or trying to make a point.

Yeah that was my initial thoughts, he'll likely need to move away from the area and/or assume a new identity in order to keep himself safe.
Very sad state of affairs but he really should have known the likely consequences.

Extreme Islamic view's are right up there with the most backwards nit witted group in the land. All religions are half daft but imagine believing 800 year old rehashed stories to live your life clowns. Could say the teacher is defo nieve because the nutjobs. But jeezo hopefully this eventually becomes a thing of the past but can't see it

I'd advise anyone to watch religulous hilarious. Brilliant documentary Bill maher rips into all the religions. There were loads of religions 2000 years ago that had virgin births, walking on water ect. The Christianity story was just the one that had the right combination that stuck. Bizarre people live there life On it

Your post covers the issues very well. Ignorance, stupidity or bawbaggery.

I despair at the backward reaction to these things, but I’m not surprised. The teacher must be just as mad as the nutters outside protesting against it. I don’t mean to offend anyone who believes in god or whatever, but the whole thing is completely illogical to me. Surely no one can read the bible or the Koran and believe any of those things actually happened.

A pretty basic understanding of the fact that there are complete nutjobs willing to kill you for daring to offend their nonsense religion could also be an argument.
The guy has been suspended, which in the circumstances is probably appropriate, but what's with the nutters still protesting outside the school, making the teachers and pupils nervous?
The guy has also had to go into hiding, in fear of his life. There can't be any defence of that, no matter how 'offended' these idiots feel.

I suspect the guy was prompting well intended discussion and seriously misjudged his audience, rather than winding up the Moslems in his class.
Either way, it's abhorrent that he should be under threat because of it.
I wonder if the Police will be taking a firm approach to the illegal gathering though? Or do they only do that selectively ?

I believe that the teacher was teaching a lesson on blasphemy so showing the image seems fine in the context of the lesson. It was maybe naive to use the cartoon but the reaction to this is ridiculous. People have been assassinated in France because of this image. I am not religious but we have moved forward from the teachings of people hundreds and thousands of years ago.

It’s the biggest case misjudging an audience since Marie Antoinette suggested the peasants try a battenberg for dinner. The result might well be the same.

We had moved forward , now with the rapid growth of another medieval religion in Britain were quickly moving back to the dark ages . It's not cool to talk about that though

The number of people practicing religion now are very much in the minority personally we need to move on from religion. I heard a comment from a French journalist after the shootings in France in relation to the killing of a journalist because they showed the cartoon. The quote was "There is no God we are all God"

I appreciate the teacher got it wrong but is there any context. Was he trying to explain why religious hatred is wrong etc and chose the worst possible example.

People have the right to observe a religion, but people have also the right to make comments on religion they are not saying its wrong but some people have turned their backs on religion that is their choice. The holy ground forum is for things other than football.
Atheists might object it to being called The Holy Ground. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Absolutely, but I think folk who think observing a religion is stupid, whilst following a football team themselves, lack a bit of self-awareness...which your last sentence alludes to. :greengrin

The last sentence was tongue in cheek. To some football fans football is their religion and more important than religion. Thinking of two teams in particular.

I think you're right except with regard to the "two teams". In my experience, for the vast majority of OF fans, there is no genuine religious belief - it's purely something they use as a tool to pretend their bile is justified and their hatred is more important than any other bland form of tribalism.
There are fans of all clubs for whom, as you say, football is their religion. That's why I find criticism of religion on a football forum to be so strange.

So the Koran makes no mention of this but most Islamic scholars say it's still a known fact.
Surely if something so heinous has occurred.. somebody drawing a picture of this infallible, almost godlike figure... then their god would take action himself and not leave it to his devotees?

Like many ancient religions, things evolve, and some people move on with new interpretations, while others remain with the older ways. And thus disagreements and wars start.
In Christianity, for example, we no longer get stoned for coveting our neighbour's ass. :cb

Exactly. The Abrahamic religions were against idolatry. Once christianity is filtered through the Hellenic myth-machine and Roman "anything goes" attitude, not so much.

I'm no expert, but I understand Aisha's age is disputed, with some versions putting it at 19.
We also don't know how old the Virgin Mary was when she became pregnant with Jesus.

Age was not a defining factor in those times. Womanhood was decided by the onset of puberty, this would suggest that she was older. This was not unique to the Arab world and 800 years after Muhammad it was still legal for girls under the age of 10 to have sex in England.
