If I book into a hotel is there any requirement to prove my stay is essential? I can't see anything on hotel site other than follow government advice.
Don't fancy 16 hour round trip for a funeral.

I believe the onus is on the individual not to book into a hotel unless it's for essential purposes, rather than the onus being on the hotel to make sure they don't allow someone to stay with them who isn't there for an essential reason.
Some hotels may ask the question but I don't believe it's compulsory for them to do so.

Not sure what the actual rules are but my mate runs a holiday let business and he is insisting on some proof of essential use. Though I suspect this is being used as an added way of catching the escorts that tend to hire holiday lets

No questions asked, good sleep and back up the road in 7 hours.
