October 1982 away to Rangers at Ibrox.

Hibs missed a penalty (Callachan), had a decent looking goal disallowed for offside, keeper Jim McArthur went of injured to be replaced in goal by Arthur Duncan who conceded almost immediately and to top it all, Jackie "Mr Dependable" McNamara scored an OG with a 35 yard pass back to the keeper who unfortunately was standing away to the other side of his box. Simon Murray's dad Gary scored 2 goals in a 3-2 loss.

Mental OG in a mental match.

Willie Miller up at Tannadice in the late-80s. Possibly Murdo's first game. Stuck his leg out and back-flicked the ball over Andy Goram from about 25 yards.

Also another one vs Utd by Mark Fulton (candidate for worst centre-half I've ever seen), this time at Easter Road, on the day that Hearts blew it at Dens in 1986. The Arab Archive website generously has it as 'sliced into the net by Mark Fulton in an effort to clear', but I remember it being an abysmal attempt to put it out for a corner that rattled into the net.

I'd love to see the video of that. I remember it well, as my oldest was born that day. :greengrin

The OG is at 56:44 - it's not how I remember it but it's still a cracker.

The highlights start at 55:50.

Was this common at the time – MotD showing English and Scottish games?

Goal highlights - I think so. It would obviously have involved one of the OF every week.

The willie Miller one at Tannadice is the one that springs to mind immediately. Hibs had just signed Murdo McLeod and took a very big crowd up to Dundee. We played very well that day and as said above Miller scored an OG from a full 25/30 yards out on the volley!!

Got to be Arthur Duncan’s at Hampden 1979
Or Pat McGinlays v Celtic at Parkhead
Some Celtic guys I know said he gave the impression mcginlay still thought he was still playing for them

Scotland didn't get MOTD either. Sportscene and Scotsport showed goals from 1 or 2 English games.

Talking of Scotland, Willie Donachie against Wales was a corker.

I was going to mention McGinlay's.

If he wasn't a good lad who gave us many years' great service then I'd say it was highly suspicious.

Horrible day that, they pumped us and it was the start of it becoming clear that the OF were pulling away from us in a big way after we'd been getting in about them quite well for a few years.

Must be Arthur's in 1979. To be fair he couldn't really get out of the way.
