I'd probably say it's because we didnt want to change the way the game was going, we were quite solid in that 2nd half, and never looked like losing a goal with the team and shape we had.
Bearing in mind, Jack Ross will have known the score at Tannadice, and another point was a great result.

I’ll take the point but still no connection with the centre mids, hanlon did more in a fleeting 5mins, no connection with the 2 forwards, there’s never a fully controlled passage of play a dominant 5mins of possession, everything in the final 3rd is a panic. I’ve no idea how we’re 3rd but I’ll take it

Not really, it helps a bit but we’ve been largely ahead of them all season.
To finish 3rd you have to limit your bad spells and recover from them, which we’ve done very well. We also beat them in this run they are on so we have contributed to it.

I thought we had more than a few periods of dominance and probably should’ve won it second half. I actually enjoyed today’s game, fairly end to end, quite open, plenty mistakes and a couple of goals. Chances at both ends as well.
We’re third because we’re having a very good season points wise and are better than 9 other sides in the league by a fair distance over the stretch.

We would’ve been well worth the win if we’d managed a second. Dominated the 2nd half and played a lot better football. We are capable of it.
I like this from the BBC match report:
Hibs eventually equalised through Doidge, though. Full-back Doig hassled and harried Nicky Devlin and stole the ball on the bye-line before squaring to the striker, who couldn't miss from 15 yards.

Absolutely agree. Just infuriating it seems to take us going a goal down to actually start playing football.
First half was pretty grim. From both teams to be fair. Porto's absolute howler was the only real difference.
Third is almost in the bag now. Can't see us slipping up that lead with five left to play.

We are sitting in our house watching games of football on laptops, computers and tv’s, of course it’s dull. There’s no fans so no urgency, nothing to lift the players. We’re scoring goals, winning games and sitting third in the league. That’ll do for me and it gets me as excited as I get for going on a proper European tour next season.

I too have just finished watching it on Alba.
You know what you get from Livi, long balls back to front, long throw ins and set pieces and they didn’t disappoint today. We obviously decided not to play out from the back and through the middle as a result of which the ball was in the air for long periods of this game. I thought our physicality was good and our back three plus Gogic and Irvine in particular got stuck in and we’re not bullied. Great point gained on Aberdeen but not a great watch.

We're seven points clear in third. With only fifteen points to play for.

I was another who switched off phone at 3pm to avoid any news then tuned in to ALBA later. First half was abysmal but once we got the hang of the surface a bit better I thought we played pretty well. Livingston defended very well while I feel we maybe shaded it I don’t have too many complaints with a point.

Think the boredom with the team is partly a symptom of COVID and the lack of fans tbh

Celtic are likely to get 80 points. Pep guardiola wouldn’t have bettered that with this Hibs side.

He's probably about to give us the most money and European football we've ever had. Even if he loses every game and we only scrape over the line because Aberdeen are dog****, the one thing we are getting is the chance to progress.

You seriously think Hibs should be bettering 80 points in a season? Step back and think about it. There were times I wanted us to target second hoping Celtic would crumble. Celtic have lost 4 games this season, they’ve dropped a total of 28 points, they’ve been poor by their own standards, Rangers are skewing a lot of views about Celtic this season due to how good they’ve been.

Why not? The most backed manager since McLeish. Throwing away points against Celtic, Livi and Ross County to name but three. Had we been more expansive we would have pushed Celtic. No need to take a step back.

You don’t know for sure that he’s been the most backed manager though, he’s also spent considerably less than celtic and Rangers, so he’s backed up his spending by being clear in third. No side outside the old firm will get near 80 points without matching their spending. That’s pie in the sky.
You talk about throwing points away, your right, if we won every game we’d have won the league. We would probably have needed 24 points over the course of the season (+ the last 5 games) to get near Celtic. Fair play if you think that was realistic.

FWIW I agree with you to an extent.
Celtic have been poor and we might under certain circumstances have expected to have been able to put them under a bit more pressure.
Jack Ross HAS been backed but you’ve got to cut him a bit of slack for where we were when we took over. To turn that around into a challenge for 2nd within a year, even with Celtic being poor, would be a big ask.
We’d have needed a team to be coming together at the right time, a bit like the 2nd half of Lennon’s 1st season back up and not one in transition which is what I feel we are right now.
We have chucked away a lot of cheap points, and that was regrettable when we looked like being just about within touching distance of Celtic a few weeks back. Every club will be able to point to “if only’s” and ultimately all that matters are points on the board. And in our case a 3rd place finish, with the promise of what that brings next season in Europe, is none too shabby really.

He's only had 3 transfer windows to try to build his team after the disaster that was Heckingbottom, and he's got us clear third in his first full season.
I doubt if you'll find many others who also think he's been a failure.

We had a much better chance in 2018. Literally, Hibs record points total for a 38 game, 3 points for a win season is less than Celtic have right now. It is honestly just delusion to think we should easily have taken second. Nothing else.
You can say it all you like, its utter pish. Celtic are not extremely poor. Only by their own standards. By the leagues standards, they could still finish on near 80 points which is extremely good.

You have taken everything to the maximum regarding results against the three teams you have named.
To make it more honest what about saying there were several games we were fortunate to get three points, 1-0 wins away to SJ and DU spring to mind.
If we finish third we will have deserved it but second is a bit of a claim Andrew

I didn't even look in yesterday afternoon. There's to much nonsense that makes me angry.
It reminds me of what I dislike most about all seated stadiums and allocated seating - you can't just move away if you're stuck beside a total ringpiece.
We're nowhere near good enough for 2nd but I feel we should be well clear in 3rd, far too many dropped points to bottom 6 teams like Ross C, Motherwell etc winning some of those games and we'd be 13-16 points clear.

Doing so would corroborate my point. We’ve been poor for the majority and these games you mention substantiate that.
Lucky to get three points, lucky that Aberdeen have been so poor.
We should be striving for better with the money spent.
We are constantly told we have good quality players then why is the football so boring to watch? That’s okay for one season but next there must be a marked improvement.
Celtic will be back next season so third is probably our limit but we had a great chance especially at 2-0 up to Celtic at ER to really make a claim for second.
In the end we wilted with a point.

And Aberdeen with the bigger budget and more experience players, and more settled squad will be feeling they should be beating those teams as well. Ultimately, we are clear in 3rd because we've won more points than Aberdeen against those sides. If we had 9 more points, we'd be 4 behind Celtic, something you've just said we are nowhere near good enough for.

Third is our limit no matter what. Unless we start spending on the same level as Celtc/Rangers we won’t be finishing any higher. Our best chance to finish 2nd was under Neil Lennon when Rangers were still a mess and he made a total **** up of that in the end.

A Hibs manager can't win with posters like you, can they?
If they lose then it's pitchforks at dawn. If we don't lose then we're lucky. If we're flying high in the league and overachieving, it's not because of us doing well, it's because others must have been poor.
It's pathetic. Get behind the team and if you can't do that then maybe football isn't the sport for you.

I’m totally fine with it.
Especially in these times when we cant go to the football, the match day thread is somewhere to let off steam and talk utter mince, like many of us do at Easter Road (me very much included).
It’s the posters who are still spouting their novel ‘theories’ a week later who I worry about.
