Rumour starting to circulate here that Preston have parted company with Alex Neil. One for Aberdeen perhaps?

I think he'd do a great job at aberdeen so hopefully he doesn't go there. He'll have loads of useful contacts in England that the sheep would benefit from as well so here's hoping they give it to someone else.

He's surely out the reach of aberdeen? he's done well down south I think he'll get some decent offers down there

He started well at Norwich (getting promoted) but was pretty ordinary after that, hasnt done much at Preston in fact they have regressed. I think he'd struggle to get a job in the Championship. I think he'd be a decent fit with the Dons.

I’d say the opposite.

He’d maybe get a job at Kilmarnock or Motherwell or a small Championship club but I think that’s his level.

Granted I don’t watch much championship football but I was under the impression he was doing quite well with Preston considering the difference in spending he has with other clubs, isn’t it just a poor season as many are having this year?

I think he’s a good manager, exactly the type they like down there a guy that can work with his hands tied, hopefully he stays away from the sheep

I get the impression from an interview I heard with him he thinks he’s above scottish football now.

Could be way wrong with that

I think he is good also and would do well for Aberdeen hope he goes somewhere else.

I thought he was brilliant at Hamilton. He was exactly what they needed and it seemed to work work for a period at Norwich. I get the feeling he 's the equivalent of the specialist kicker. Brilliant in the right conditions but poor generally. Aberdeen won't be in a relegation dog fight any time soon so bring it on... Don't think he'd improve them much.

Poor quality football, get ahead in a game and start slowing down the pace, time wasting, tactical fouls. Perfect for current Aberdeen!
Preston apparently way overspending wages to turnover so he's maybe seen as a failure despite being a small club.
Figure I saw was 127% wages/turnover, not going to end well with Covid in on top of that.

Definitely don't want him going to Aberdeen. Haven't really kept up with Preston this season but he's had a hugely impressive career thus far.

You think so? I think he's good and would take him as our manager no problem.

He would be a good appointment for Aberdeen IMO.

Owen Coyle did similar way back when he was in the EPL and Celtic were looking for a manager.

He dissed the game up here saying he had outgrown it yet was practically begging for the Celtic gig a few years later.

I’d not want AN getting the Aberdeen job though

If Neil was being linked with the Hibs job I wouldn't be excited. Run of the mill manager. Mind you some people said that about Jack Ross and look at us now.

Apparently he’s still there so I wouldn’t worry much, much like if he got the Aberdeen gig. It would be a solid “meh” to me.

I don't think run of the mill is a particularly apt description for Neil. Got Hamilton promoted (as we know only too well) in his first full season as manager, and then had Hamilton in 3rd place (level on points with Celtic in 2nd, albeit having played two more games than them) in the SPL when he left. They'd played 20 SPL games by that point, and won 12 of them - having Hamilton in the European places after more than half a season is an incredible achievement.

Then went to Norwich, won 17 of 25 games and got them promoted to the EPL. Relegated the following season with 34 points. He was still 34 at the time. Finished 7th, 14th and 9th in three seasons so far with Preston.

No guarantees obviously, but I think he could be a really good appointment for Aberdeen, and really wouldn't want him to go there.

Agreed - I think he has proven to be as bright a management candidate as pretty much any Scpttish manager in recent years - he is still young - has a number of good jobs left in him yet ...

I followed his progress a bit when he went down south as at the time i thought he would have been a good fit for Hibs manager. I seem to recall Norwich having a bad sequence of games early in their time in the Premier, sure they played the top 5 or 6 teams in the league one after the other which put them on a downward spiral which they never recovered.
