Let's hope he continues his progression and shows what he can do for Scotland.

Remember he was playing in the Scottish Championship a year ago.

Superb news and well deserved.

He should be really thankful Hibs rejected that bid in January.

Since then the manager has got sacked, they’re 21st in the league and the other striker signed, Cosgrove hasn’t started a game

Knock your pan in until the end of the season, get us 3rd and have a good euros and you’ll do far better then bloody Birmingham

It's a real honour, and definitely boosts his value, but I don't see him getting much time on the pitch in the short term, tbh.

That might change if he ups his performance levels in the next 6 games, though.

Congratulations as well to the OP for spelling his name correctly.

I'm actually surprised at that but really pleased for him.

What an opportunity!

Well done Kevin.

He'd say himself that he probably hasn't done enough at Hibs over the past couple of months but a goal off the bench at the weekend and this lovely big carrot being dangled in front of him should really only serve to inspire him.

Hopefully we see him back to the form he showed earlier this season as he is a good player with the potential to get much better.

I'd love to know what the true story was behind January because I don't get the feeling at all that he's a bad lad or even a bit daft.

Should have been called up months ago when he was scoring regularly. Better late than never.

Well done to the lad, I thought he would miss out seeing he's not played a lot recently, glad to see him get a chance.

I assume we've heard the true story.

His agent will have advised him to submit the transfer request and I don't think you have to be a bad lad to want to grab opportunities when they come along.

Obviously we don't know what wages Birmingham offered, but I'd be very surprised if the contract wasn't worth more than £1m plus add ons.

Did Hibs allow him to speak to Birmingham though? If they did, that could have helped him decide to push for a move. If we didn't, Birmingham shouldn't have offered anything.

I don’t think he’s a bad lad or anything but I think he’s trying to make up for lost time which is making him a bit selfish thinking his next move hence the transfer requests at us and Dunfermline.

He obviously dropped down levels despite having obvious ability but had to get his attitude right. Now his attitude is right he is seeing how good he is and what sort of level he could play at.

I don’t blame him, but I’m not a fan of transfer requests.

What levels has he dropped down or what time has he lost. He is only 24 and playing for the third placed team in the top league and is second top scorer in that league. He seems to be following a path which sees him move up, succeed and move on. That has worked for him and the clubs he has scored a barrow load for. He definitely suffered a drop in form, understandable given a family tragedy, but that was compounded by him being dropped. We look a considerably better team when he is playing and I think he holds the ball up at least as well as Doidge does and is a far, far better player who is much more likely to take chances. So happy he has had his call up, it is richly deserved, and I suspect he will look even better with better player around him and that will be good for Kevin and Hibs

He was at Patrick Thistle, went on loan to a couple of teams before being released then was playing league 1 for Raith Rovers.

He admitted himself his attitude wasn’t right which saw him drop down the levels he knew he could play at and it gave him a wake up call.

I'm totally forgetting Patrick were a top league team back then.

Well deserved.

He’s got a great opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place in the squad. Can only be good for Hibs too.

According to his interview this afternoon he was sounded out for the last couple of squads.
Also see that the Birmingham manager has resigned, so he dodged a bullet there.

Wow you seriously think Chris Cadden deserves a Scotland call up?

Wow you seriously think Chris Cadden deserves a Scotland call up?

He’s been capped before and we’re not as blessed on his side as we are on the other.

I’m not necessarily saying it should happen and like almost all of our players I think he needs to be more consistent, but it’s not the wildest suggestion.

Yeah I think he should get a call ahead of Stephen O'Donnell, I would even pick Shaun Rooney ahead of Stephen O'Donnell

Bit surprised with that. Between this and his goal at the weekend, I hope that gives him the boost to really kick on for the rest of the season.

He’s cleared the hurdle with this call-up. We can really benefit from Kevin fighting to prove himself in the next few games for contention. What chances of a couple of goals against Livvy? :aok:

I like Cadden but think he maybe needs some more time before his performances get him in the squad. On this year's form U'd be more than happy having Rooney ahead of O'Donnell. Was kind of expecting him to get a chance tbh

I’m pissed off as it makes the likelihood of him leaving greater.

I actually think he’s done nothing in the last three months to justify selection and it just goes to show the paucity of Scotland’s resources.

However, I hope he has received the kick up the arse he deserved and goes on to fulfil his potential. McGinn never chased the moves. He just made sure he could be the best he could be and the rewards followed.

Maybe so, but, if he wasn’t getting recognition, he would probably be performing poorly for us. You can’t have it both ways. It goes with the territory that if you’re playing well and attracting attention, you are more likely to move on ......... but the potentially bigger transfer fee will compensate to some degree.

Read somewhere Leeds taking an interest, getting called up can only boost his value.

A Hibs player is called up to the Scotland National squad for their first tournament in over a generation...... 'I'm pissed off'

Good grief. Are you pissed off at the fact we are sitting third in the table and looking at Europe next season too? I mean this increases the likelihood of our players getting a big money move down south.

I'm cooking my favourite dish for tea tonight (slow cooker chilli).

I'm pissed off because there will be none left after I've eaten it. 😓

It’s kind of ironic that SJM left in the first window we got/accepted offers for him too.

There’s a balancing act - the more we develop young players and do the right thing for their careers, the easier it gets to sign future young stars.

If we get more big bids in the summer for Nisbet it would be a good time for him to make that move.
