Very good. Excellent bit of research on teams (or lack of) coming from behind to win.

Also agree that the defender shielding the ball out to win a by kick get fouls for less than the Boyle penalty.

Amazing budget that Aberdeen have (if it’s true?)

Someone had posted the figures for the SPFL teams on twitter, not sure how accurate it is but the figure for Hibs didn't look miles off, so would assume the others were close.

John's research was good - very enlightening. Amazing how important getting the first goal is!

Good show again Matty and John. I think the Aberdeen figure maybe the turnover rather than the wages. In their 19/20 accounts their turnover was £15.9m and their wages bill was £9.77Mil, I cannot see them increasing their wage spend by 50% in two years.

Interesting article below, if it is true then McCrorie was never gonna come to us with them paying that, McGeouch probably would have got more signing for Hibs. I wonder how they keep a happy dressing room with such a disparity of wages (Watkins on £10k a week could cover the wages of most of the midfielders in that squad).

Edit, I see Watkins is on loan so Aberdeen may not be paying all his wages.
2nd Edit, maybe I should just delete this post lol, McCrories wage is what he was on at the Huns, as they have his contract ending 2021

That makes sense, I had just taken the twitter post at face value and didn't have time to assess it.

Yeah I know! Never trust these sort of articles fully but it must be based on something. They are going to have to sign a few come the new window, a lot of players out of contract.

McGeouch never had the option of coming to Hibs, he was offered and wanted to come but we turned him down (can't remember if that was Hecky or Ross), but he would have loved to have come back.

My recollection of the pitch at Whitburn Academy was it was black ash (early 80s) not red shale. Still remember picking the grit out of my knees after the game (and before I had a chance to warm up at which point things began to sting a bit)

Remember a red ash pitch at Craigshill

Surprised at the stats for teams scoring first. It certainly blows any theory that it's a Hibs thing.

Good show once again lads.

Don't believe these figures.

Look at Hibs, Dylan Barnes getting £1400 more than Rocky.

Your post got me doing a little further digging...

Of the 130 games where the team who scored first went on to win, in 100 of those they didn't concede.

In Hibs terms, in our 15 victories where we scored first, we didn't concede in 11 of them.

That's good going - sort of the opposite of the perception of the "hibs'd it" pish.

That’s the money they are on at their own club. The loan may have meant we paid less for him.

I thought we were after him at the time and like you would have welcomed him back.

Apparently he was really keen to come back but for whatever reason, the manager at the time didn't feel he was needed.

You clearly like this sort of thing :greengrin, so Duncan Alexander at opta is definitely your man. He’s quite a funny tweeter and broadcaster as well.

Scoring first at home is also more valuable statistically than away, 74% win ratio to 64% away for the team that scores first. Of course, you need the ‘what % of team who scores 2nd 3rd or 4th goals in a game goes on to win’ stat before you can make a claim at how vital 1st goal is comparatively, but still interesting.

You might be right. What started as a casual interest and a joke about spreadsheets might be hiding an interest in something greater.

Have given Duncan Alexander a follow.

You don't happen to know if there's any free to use or even paid for tools out there that would stop me having to go through wiki pages and the like to round up this information? 😁
