Why do they all wear shirts, ties and jackets to watch and talk about fitba'?
Spit Carragher even wears a waistcoat!
Surely smart casual would be more appropriate? What are they trying to prove by dressing like they're going to a wedding?
It irritates me far more than it probably should.

Gotta ask, how does that thought enter your head at this time of night?!

Maybe they just enjoy wearing it. Dressing up nice makes people feel good and maybe they just want to look their best in front of millions of viewers.

I was watching the Liverpool game which was delayed because of a serious injury to the Wolves keeper.

Sorry, that made me laugh.
The TV companies tell them what to wear. But why suits and ties for punditry?

Managers, too. It's always struck me as a bit odd that, in the modern era, most managers still dress like they are stockbrokers. Back in the day, of course, everyone of a certain age wore a suit, but not now. Nobody else in the dugout wears a whistle; it looks out of place.

A smart, preferably tailored, suit is for every occasion IMO. Nothing wrong with over dressing.
Patrice Evra on the other hand, wearing a v neck jumper and bow tie should be a criminal offence.

I'd bet that the vast majority wouldn't wear a suit if they didn't have to. Some of the new pundits probably have to buy one to go on TV.
An open neck shirt or a polo would be far more appropriate than trussing them up in formal gear.
Agreed about Evra's kit.

When the pubs re-open I might go with that on the first night, along with polyester slacks, tartan suit jaiket and cowboy hat.

Obviously our tastes are different here but personally I really like wearing a suit. Nothing wrong with wanting to look your best either

I’m in this boat, but I can imagine it wearing thin if I had to wear a suit for work.
A kilt on the other hand, now that is an occasion.
A rule of life for me is to always dress like you’ve got somewhere better to go afterwards.

I think they should have 'theme nights'.
Mexican Evening, Wild West Day, Pirate Sunday... etc.

A suit is great in the right circumstances. I used to have several, now only a couple and a couple of jackets.
I wouldn't wear one to the football though, so why wear one just because you're going to spraff about it?
Golf commentators wear smart casual gear and have no less authority or presence because of it.
It's an irrational irritant to me, but I know a lot of people like it.

I always think Lineker and Shearer get it right.
Micah Richards dresses well.
Souness looks a right **** no matter what he puts on.
I’d like to chase Kris Boyd and his big parka up and doon Brighton beach.

You clearly didn’t see the super Sunday where he had a load of random zips on his suit jacket :greengrin

One of the times I saw them, Mick Jones was wearing a really cool pair of red trousers. I'm not sure whether they were Alex Michon's handiwork or off the shelf, but I always wanted a pair like them.
Sadly, I never had the cash or the bottle to buy a pair and I'm not sure I'd be able to get away with them anymore.

More than likely not red, but I doubt there has been a cooler collection of trousers ever.

They were all hand made by Alex Michon an unknown art student. At the time, the Sex Pistols were getting their kit from Vivian Westwood, iirc. I read that her only instructions were to make clothes that were comfortable and that you could play football in. :greengrin

Keen 5-a-sides at Rehearsals Rehearsals of course and later still it kept them together. Did you ever get down to see the London Calling Exhibition? Fascinating stuff.

From the LC Exhibits. They were playing football every day and Guy Stevens had an Arsenal fixation as well as being off his head. If you blow it up a bit you’ll see the narrative.
