Apparently, you call them a 'Dundee United' (or occasionally a 'Dundee')

That's a fantastic article. It's strange one.

There was a Christian missionary called Mary Slessor who came from Dundee. She is revered Nigeria for the humanitarian work she carried out, most notably stopping infanticide of twins.

Not in Nigeria, Jambo is a greeting in the Swahili language which isn't spoken in Nigeria.

Great story.

On the topic.
Stewart Granger in the film King Solomons Mines ,faced a rhino..
He scowled trying to look nasty and cried out loudly, twice
JAMBO ! JAMBO!
The rhino wisnae impressed one bit, chased him for four miles.

I note that some Championship team supporter has used the phrase "Hibsed it" in a comment.

They really are sad little individuals over there.

Surely it is to send spurious emails to strangers telling them that they have won the British Lottery.

Not sure if it is in Nigeria but it definitely is in Kenya. Jambo = Hello.
Was there on holiday, 13 years ago and it was mortifying having to utter the word many times a day for a fortnight during December. Still, the weather made up for it!! Well, maybe not.

Thanks for sharing I had recalled reading that somewhere. Ran that past my mate who was born in Ireland but family is from Nigeria and he confirmed he’d heard the expression but like the guy in the article he didn’t connect it with the city.

Good read that. I watched that welcome to Lagos and the Dundee United reference confused me at the time

My first thought when I saw this thread title was “Why on earth is someone asking for advice on how to insult a Nigerian person?”

If you’d watched Thomas Sowumni play for Hibs you wouldn’t have to ask.

(Edit because this place is full of pedantic *****; yes I know he’s Hungarian but he was born in Nigeria)
