View Full Version : A year since attending a Hibs game

With the one year anniversary of the last game of 19-20 (1-3 v Aberdeen) now passed, that's a whole year now that none of us have been to see Hibs.
Has anyone gone longer than that previously? Since my first game I certainly haven't.

Have never went more than a calendar year.
I’ve never completed a full season of home and always though as there’s always games missed due to holidays/other events/illness etc, but this also marks a year without a pint in the Hoppy, a year without a ticket scramble, a year without a pie with accompanying bovril, a year without stepping foot in club shop, a year without an away day being plotted with friends and a year without once putting on a Hibs scarf. All very sad but there does seem to be an end in sight, albeit quite far away still but surely past the halfway stage.

When I first moved to Gloucester I think I went a year without setting foot in Easter Road, but still attended a couple of away games so never went a year without watching Hibs.

When my kids were young my wife worked weekends so I had to stop attending. Apart from that though I have went to the vast majority of games at Easter Road. I'm still annoyed my son talked me into taking him to Gerry Cinnamon and a fixture change meant I missed the drubbing by The Rangers where Porteous got sent off. I hadn't missed a competitive home game for around 8 years at that point. The kids can now look after themselves and Hibs at ER trumps most things for me. I'm desperate to return

Friend of mine hasn't been to a game since the Scottish Cup win. Yes he lives down south but he still attended his fair share of games up until then. His rationale is that nothing will ever top that moment as a Hibs fan so it's best to bow out when you've hit your peak.

I was going to do the same thing, just retire from football but got talked out of it by my pals

I've been to a good few since the cup win, I do feel quite similar to your mate though, everything just pales into insignificance now for the most part.

I'd imagine there's a lot of Hibs Fans that have gone more than a year without attending.
I certainly have when I lived abroad, and for a period in the 90s when I became disillusioned with football. At least those were my decision, though, so very different to now.

Haven't been back during the football season for 6 years now and god knows when I will get back again with this Covid stuff going on.....

There was a period of around 4 or 5 seasons when I didn't miss a single game. It became almost obsessive and I missed some other important stuff so I didn't break the streak.
I think the longest I have ever gone without attending a game at all is about 3 months give or take. I've had times of sporadic attendance for various reasons but this has been the longest period by a significant distance.

Having been to every home game for 2 1/2 years it was a wrench when I moved down south 39 years ago. There was no way I could afford to travel up for games so went a long time without attending.
tried to arrange my holidays back home to coincide with Hibs games but didn't get to many for several years.
Most annoying episode was when Hibs had a hastily-arranged friendly against Aldershot, where I lived, but didn't know about it till I saw a couple of guys wandering through the shopping centre with Hibs scarves after the game! I was not happy..
so, went a lot longer than a year without going to Easter Road.
However, thanks to ppv etc I have only missed one Hibs game on TV this season, so every cloud etc.
If I ever move back, season tickets are on the agenda.

Had a season ticket in the 90s but lost interest in going to the games in about 1999 as I had other priorities.
Still watched us if we were on the TV but that was it until the share issue. Could only get shares if I was on the database, so I bought a ticket for a home game against Raith Rovers which, almost inevitably, we drew 1-1 after conceding an injury time equaliser.
That didn't put me off and I attended a few more games before biting the bullet and getting another season ticket when we were promoted. Not got one for next season yet, but I will be renewing.

I think that a few folk went down this route. I know some and to be honest toyed with the idea myself. Ended giving into temptation and going back to games but not as many as before and was getting a bit fed up with it before pandemic started. I've not really missed it this year and don't think I will be back in any rush. Will pick and choose my games for the forseable and stick to oldfirm, hearts, cup games and any other big game. Busting my bum to get to a midweek game against St Johnstone, Livi, Hamilton etc....is a thing of the past.

:agree: haven't been since the cup win and no idea when I'll get a chance to ever get back and go.
If it were to be my last time watching Hibs it certainly was a good one!

Sitting behind me at pittodrie that day were two older boys and one said to the other that football would be stopped very soon his mate laughed at him and I had a chuckle myself, dont know he was but he was adamant that might be our last game for a while, by god he was right.
