A great thinker and a true proponent of socialism and democracy being both compatible and indeed complimentary.

An incredibly brave lady and role model for millions of Germans. Her legacy helped form modern Germany.

Don't know if you've read it, mate, but J.P. Nettl's thousand page biography of the great lady is a masterpiece of its craft. IMO, it ranks alongside Isaac Deutscher's three volume biography of Trotsky. She really was an extraordinary woman of intellect, integrity and humanity. A socialist libertarian and theorist who, from the outset, warned what the Soviet Union would become under Bolshevism. It's a tragedy her life ended as it did, killed like a dog in the streets during the German revolution. Robert Gerwarth's book 'November 1918' is an excellent account of the collapse of imperial Germany and the battle for its future.

Epic monument to her (and Karl Liedknecht) designed by modernist icon Ludwig Mies van der Rohe demolished by the nazis. Never rebuilt.

Of course many of the Freikorps of 1918-19 became members of the plethora of ultra-nationalist parties which popped up subsequently, including a certain National Socialist German Workers Party.

Can I recommend Babylon Berlin as an (almost) realistic reflection of that fascinating and frightening time.

A book?

They are based on books but the series is on NOW and Sky Atlantic. Worth it for the CGIs of Weimar Berlin but the history is also good. It’s a cop show with lots of good old German angst thrown in.
