We’ve only gained 3 points from losing positions this season. Sevco h, St Johnstone h and Celtic away.

That’s pretty poor

Forgetting the points in most of the games we’ve went behind, some of the performances have been shocking.

We don’t look like we know how to handle it.

Only dropped points in three games we’ve led, draws to Rangers, Dundee United and Celtic. That’s what happens in Scotland.

Jack Ross mentioned something earlier in the season when we were on a decent run where he had to tell the players how good they were, as if they never believed it. Maybe a mentality thing within those performances like they take a massive dunt when they lose a goal and don’t recover.

A lot of it is down to his tactics. Moving Cadden to left wing back today utterly crippled us as an attacking force down that side. He spent the whole second half running the wrong way and passing it backwards.

JR just seems to like lobbing on more attacking players and abandoning any shape.

Looking beyond today when we were just extremely poor, I look at the likes of the semi final, the shape etc was totally fine, we were dominating, but when we lose a goal we fall to pieces. That to me says it’s a confidence/mentality thing. Celtic home game, 2 up and cruising, lose 1 and it’s panic stations. It’s something the players need to deal with better.

There is always loads of talk about leaders in the team (or lack of) when we lose. There is definitely something in that IMO.

There are times when we lose the first goal and just fall to bits. We’ve got plenty experience in the team but I think there has been a bit of a lack of responsibility when we’ve ended up behind. Bizarrely, we reacted best to going behind at Ibrox and Parkhead. It’s like the players are more switched on for those games whilst they lack urgency, or wait on someone else fixing things, in games like today.

Agree with this and think that semi final typified things. I think there is a mentality problem with the team and they don't deal well with adversity i.e going a goal behind. That belief and mental strength should come in time especially if we achieve 3rd and there is tangible reward.

I'm bad for forgetting this is Ross' first full season. Sevco gave Gerrard time, 2 full seasons with no relative success. Time to build is key and there have been clear signs of progress this season. I need to put things into perspective better. Defeats like today sting but the bigger picture is more promising.

We are the only team not to have won from a losing position this season and sit second bottom from a points won perspective. We are tied in terms of going behind with Aberdeen and Celtc, 11 times it’s happened (Huns well ahead having only gone behind 3 times this season).

Not great reading. Obviously you can’t be best or even best of the rest in every statistic but to have not managed to turn a game around at all this season is poor to say the least.

It's not a great stat at all, I think the thing it highlights as much as the obvious "if we go behind, we're ****ed" is that to be in the position we're in this season shows we are very adept at getting into winning positions and seeing games out when we do.

You'd obviously want to do both, clearly, but I think it says more about the team that we don't go behind *that* often where the stat above becomes crippling to our immediate ambitions (third place).

Whilst this is bad, it makes me wonder how this compares to other seasons given we're still 3rd and previously finished lower.

Is it a case of 1 or 2 games make the world of difference, ie do we come back from behind in a season normally 2,3,4,5 times?

Just checked, amazingly last season 2 wins 2 draws, season before, 3 wins 5 draws after losing the first goal.

This season 2 draws no wins.

Obviously last season was curtailed, but if we'd played out the full season, we'd have maybe got another draw whilst losing first goal.

Do you have any stats on outcomes when going behind at any point?

Not mine, Ryan, wikipedia has the seasons details. Had a quick look through last two seasons league games compared to this.

To be fair we lost more games so theres plenty of games we lost the first goal and still lost.

From the Evening News ...

At one point in the second half after another chance had gone abegging, the Hibs players were trudging back to their own half with their heads down, almost accepting their fate. It’s been said so often before but this team really lacks someone to rouse the team into fighting back when they’re behind and with McGregor already off the park, there were no obvious candidates. And that’s concerning.

Pretty obvious deficiency at the club that needs addressed.

Made worse by having a better defence conceding less. I get the point but not sure how it compares and how much can be read into it.

If we had turned round 50% of those we'd be chasing 2nd. Is this the new problem rather than not making top6 or europe?

Probably helps that we’ve won more games than we’ve lost compared to anyone else outside of the OF. That’s the stat which really matters.

Of course. It doesn’t mean that the topic at hand shouldn’t be a concern/something we need to improve on though.

Top work, I wonder how many games we usually go behind for comparison? It maybe in poorer seasons weve won more points simply because there were more games to come behind from. And conversely how many points lost from a winning position. I will take this seasons record any day.

So we've gained as many points from a losing position as the League winners

How come this is such a big deal? According to many on here a team shouldn't lose from a winning position.
