just announced on off the ball so it won't be in the media outlets yet, he was taken to hospital 3 weeks ago but sadly passed away early this morning, older ones will remember him as steak and kidney, RIP Sydney :(

A style of entertainment from a different era and some pretty ropey songs he became a figure of fun, but he was our figure of fun and he could sing a bit all the same.

RIP Steak & kidney!

Sad to hear that. As Peevemor says he was a bit of a fun figure, but it was all good natured. I used to sing tiny bubbles when I was pissed.
RIP steak and kidney.

My old dear loved him to bits, him and Jim Reeves. Nobody's Child was part of her psychological warfare armoury.

Say what you like about his music but no one has a career of that longevity without having something about them. He knew his audience and played to it.

Maybe I'm just imagining it, but was there not a TV advert where a guy was out fishing and he played a Sydney Divine record through a speaker in the water which made all the fish jump out on to the river bank, leaving the angler to smoke his cigar or drink his beer (or whatever was being advertised)?

" Doonotforsakemeooohhhhhmydarling"

All suddenly and unexpectedly belted out as one big word after a significant intake of whisky is how I remember it.
