I’m a big Nisbet and Porteous fan and delighted that Hibs have kept a hold of them.
Obviously Jack has kept them both out of the starting 11.
You reckon it’s because we are winning so don’t change or is Nisbets head still spinning? It’s interesting to see how the man management of him and Porto goes. I’m hoping they come back hungry and with a point to prove.

No reason to change a winning team, they’ll both get back in the team and show their worth at some point though.

Boyle has been scoring for fun and McGregor has been rock solid at the other end.

They will get back in when that changes.

Think it’ll teach them a valuable lesson, Nisbet especially. Neither can argue that being out of the side currently is unfair and it’s up to them to get back in by showing up well in training and performing if they come off the bench.

Think Nisbet should have a look at English championship table. Birmingham beaten again yesterday. Two points above second bottom but they have a game in hand. Lucky escape for him. Play well at Hibs, possibly in Scotland squad for the Euros and then big money move in 2023.

There is also the chance of an injury to Hanlon or McGinn or Doidge which could create an opening.

Great to have depth. Let's hope we push on,get 3rd and maybe the cup. If we are in Europe until Christmas we will need a decent sized squad to make sure that we get back the following season.

It was such a weird club to hand a transfer request for. I mean he seems to have really plotted his way through the clubs really intelligently each club an incremental step up allowing himself to develop & grow. Apart from the cash I really cant see a single plus of a move to bottom of the table Birmingham. Hopefully he has time to reflect, realise that he will get that big move at some point but move to a club which is going to further his career not just his bank balance. Poor advice indeed from his agent Im guessing. Why sign a 5 year deal if your eye is on a quick move to a club that can pay more.

I would imagine the wage increase would be significant if they were willing to pay 3M

Money does strange things to people and honestly I don't blame him for having his head turned by it

At this moment in time due to the form of the starting XI for the last three games, I don’t think we need either in the starting XI.

I really hope they stay out of the team because let’s be honest, it would mean that we have kept on winning.

I’m sure they will both have a part to play over the next 10 games but long may they stay on the bench if it means we are winning.

Great bank balance, score goals for fun in L1 and get a move to the Championship doesn’t seem as bad as it sounds for someone who was playing in the tin pot league hearts are in this time last season tbh.

Nisbet was benched the game before the transfer request. We’ve won every game since and started with the same 11 in each game. Think that answers the question.

Let’s not forget that he had a transfer request turned down last January when we were after him. He knuckled down and got his move. No reason to expect different this time.

It was allegedly £2.4 million. Probably no chance add ons taking it to £3m e.g. if promoted.
If it had been £3 million straight. Hibs would have taken their hand off.

The £2.4 million was probably full of conditions as well

You would think if he hadn’t, the club would have said something.

Ross said he did not hand in a transfer request in the first interview post window.

Saw something on Twitter, lambasting the manager. Put on Cosgrove and took off their wingers, so no crosses into box
Ross defended them well, but we don’t know if behind the scenes he’s unhappy with them
I don’t think Porto pushed it as much as Nisbit though, by the press speculation

Very good management by Jack Ross to drop both, the penny will drop and they will return better players knowing their places in the team are not a given here, never mind elsewhere

Best comparison I can think of is McGinn and Cummings. Bot players were attracting interest after we'd won promotion. McGinn stayed another year to develop further and proved himself in the Premiership before getting his big move to Villa. Cummings chased the cash by going to Forest and his career quickly went downhill. Don't know what Cummings's thoughts are on it but it it seems clear to me that leaving when he did was a mistake as I'm sure a lot said on here at the time. It was short-termism over what was best for his career.

Nisbet, and probably Porteous too, will benefit in the long term by staying at least until the end of this season, if not next.

Especially with his dad dying so recently. Maybe he feels extra pressure on his shoulders to provide for his family?

I liked Cummings but he was / is a bit limited.

If there was a decent offer on the table for him to make a few quid he needed to take it whilst it was there imo.

He was always going to end up back up the road and I’d be surprised if anyone manages to get as much out of Cummings as we got.

That's what I thought. He said something like Nisbet had wanted to explore the opportunity but hadn't put in a transfer request. I reckon that to try and force a deal through the agent has fed the transfer request line to the media and that's what has stuck.

Which means he told the manager he wanted to talk to Birmingham and was quickly told no, Ross now knows Kevin will want away as soon as other clubs are interested and dropping him puts him in his place a wee bit, cant go dictating when you want to move.

I did think that Cummings improved every year he was with us, maybe he would have improved further playing in the Premier League?

Lennon polarises opinion on here but one tick in his positive column was that I thought a few players became better players under him. Boyle. Cummings. McGinn continued to progress. Stevenson was probably as good as he’s ever been during the season we finished 4th.

I still think that Cummings would have been daft not to move to Forest though. He believed in himself and was offered a decent opportunity. I’m not convinced he’d ever have been offered one much better than that, even if he did progress as a player with us for another year.

I think it's just sensible management. Both had looked in need of a break and it's proved to be the correct decision to rest them, irrespective of the transfer speculation. After a nasty wobble over the new year period we're now starting to see what a strong squad we have and it's great to have two players of their quality ready to step back in when needed.

Must be said that while the standard of Scottish football isn't exactly top class, Ross has proved himself a really good operator in the transfer market and brought some very decent players to the club.

He makes a lot less errors than a season or two ago. But def doesn’t do any harm for your humility to have to work your way back into the first team.

Guess we'll never know what would have happened had he stayed. Here's hoping that now we've got Nisbet and Porteous to the end of the season, at least, they continue to play well. They'll probably then get their big move in the summer and hopefully we get good fees for them.

I think if a defender starts to cause loss if goals or even close to losing goals then liability is a description that would come to mind. I wouldnt say he was at fault for the goal at St Mirren but he did have a chance to recover the situation. In the most recent three games we havent conceded one goal with Daz on the pitch. Sadly Porto has been making costly mistakes for a while. I hope this period focuses him on how to concentrate on not making daft rash decisions.

Just because we win doesn’t mean we won’t make changes. We realised that mistake come the Livi and Ross county games at Xmas where we had run the players into the ground. Team needs freshened up most weeks, tweaks of the system/players to suit who we are playing against. I’d expect at least one back in next week.

Ross seldom changes a team if they are winning and all fit ....

It will be interesting as I’m sure the club will want them in the team and doing well so their value doesn’t drop and they earn us decent money.

But if the teams winning then our hands are tied.

Theyll need to up their game from the levels they were at before dropped.

I’m sure he’ll have realised his mistake from Xmas time though when it was clear it needed rotated and the players hit a brick wall. Lots of players on the sidelines to make tweaks here and there to keep it fresh.

That makes sense and I'm sure that was the plan agreed to by all parties. Sign a 4 year contract and after two years all going well we won't stand in the way of a big money move.....

I think it's just down to not changing a winning formation. Doidge and McGregor have both stepped up to the mark in our last couple of games - both looking good in that 3-4-3 formation. If the team had under-performed against St. Mirren we may have seen a change of line-up against Aberdeen - they didn't and I think Ross was proven correct to stick with the winning line up. I'm sure we'll see both Porteous and Nisbet back starting before long though - they are quality players and will push their way through.
