Anyone remember the name of our groundsman from the early 80's. Was a cantankerous old sod (and probably no longer with us now)

Alex Kerr, I only know this because his name is printed in a programme from 1981.

Interesting to see the club so publically fire back at the Sunday mail.
I wonder what ever happened to Vincent Furey!

I remember this story. The Sunday Mail ‘exclusive’ had Hibs, of all clubs, having an anti-Irish agenda (I mean, Patrick Quinn FFS) and on the club discovering the boy was from Donegal at the height of the ‘troubles’ they sent him packing. Hibs quickly denied the allegations and the story went quietly away.

I love the fact that the letter states he is round about 17 or 18 😂. Good attention to detail.

I worked at ER a few times during from the 80s onwards and can confirm he was real grump. God forbid you should step onto the pitch for any reason or you would get it with both barrels, regardless it of who you were. I’ve thought about him many times over the past few years when we’ve had all sorts of folks on the pitch at half time and beyond. He’s be doing his nut. Tam McCourt was his deputy for quite a while.

Obviously no interviews back then!

There is another Kerr listed as a director in the programme so perhaps a family favour?

A lot of the training involved laps on the red ash track around the pitch and of course players cut across the pitch at the corners he went ballistic which meant it it happened more and more

The director was Jimmy Kerr, Hibs goalie in the 40s/50s. Before Tommy Younger.
No relation to Alex Kerr who was very hard working groundsman and very protective of His pitch.

Sent from my LG-H870 using TapatalkI don't see what difference his being grumpy makes. His job was to look after the pitch, not to give press conferences. If people were cutting across his turf when they weren't meant to then he was right to moan. People would have been quick enough to complain had the pitch been crap as a result.

Remember being on a game at Easter Road and clearly Alex didn’t want the game played, no nets up, no corner flags out. However referee decided it was playable, much to Alex’s ire. 20 minutes later we are out running on the track doing our warm up and going past the top goals as Alex was banging in the pegs, and a few choice expletives every time time wee hammer got banged down on the pegs about refs in general, good fun !

It does t make a difference, it was his defining character trait and what he was known for though.

Jimmy Kerr was also a plumber and was on the hierarchy of Hart builders. Very close friend of Tom.
