The Internet informs me that it's 17 years - jeeeeesus - since our youngsters under Bobby Williamson papped the Huns out of the LC semi final.

Now, what happened in the final is best left unsaid, so says my therapist, but what are people's memories of this game? I remember watching the majority of it with my best mate in the Lord Todd, the campus bar at Strathclyde where we were both students/alcoholics in training in my case. We had to head off by a certain time and we were down in et when it came to leave so off we went thinking that was that.

Not 5 steps had we taken out the bar when a collective groan informed us something had happened and we got back in time to see the replay of Stephen Dobbie taking matters into his own hands and blootering the ball home.

We watched the ensuing penalties elsewhere (my heart sank like a stone when Murdoch stepped up, but what do I know) and the ensuing celebrations nearly got us lynched given the loyalties of 99% of the patrons. A great night was subsequently had.

Today is, by unhappy chance, also the 2 year anniversary of that same mate's highly untimely passing, so I'm off to watch some nostalgic YouTube highlights!

That was a memorable night. The final that followed is still one of my biggest disappointments following Hibs. Hope you are raising a glass to your buddy tonight 🍺

My son and me were at the game and afterwards we had the honour to run into the Kate great Lawrie Reilly in the Car park
We have him a but of a fright speaking to him as we sensibly did not have colours on so he wasn't sure that we were not if the hun persuasion
We exchanged our joy at the result and went on our way home
We had went through by train but the game going to extra time and penalties we had missed the last one home but my sons friend had come through by car and fortunately we got a run home
Unfortunately we got sold a dummy in the final by livid

Travelled from the North through the snow with my brother, was a late decision the previous night to catch the ferry and go to the game but was one of those great decisions to look back on. Was a bit of an adventure with the car stuttering and spluttering, added to the potential road closures with the snow, but getting us there and back with the brilliant result a real talking point for us over the years. As with Lyonhibs unfortunately my brother passed away 18 months ago, will always remember this game fondly as well as the giant killing run we had getting to the final, we were there but less said the better.
If only Stephen Dobbie got his act together earlier, he was a great player!

At the risk of sounding like the late James "were you at the game, caller?" Sanderson, if you were in Glasgow, and the game was at Hampden, why didn't you go to the game..? Bloody students....

I remember very little of the actual game, mainly just the penalty shoot-out - specifically that in the excitement of winning it, I hammered my knee off the Hampden plastic seat in front of me - so as everyone else was going mental, hugging each other etc., I was on the ground screaming in pain. Still, happy memories....

Did Riordan not get cramp in the last minute and didn't take a penalty because of it?

And the obvious guy to take his place was Colin bloody Murdoch...

Have the highlights been lost? Only seems to be the penalties online, place went absolutely mental when Dobbie scored.

Great memories of the whole matchday experience!

I took a client, fellow Hibby (hi JC if you read this!) to hospitality at Hampden so we stayed over in Glasgow.

We were vastly outnumbered at the dinner but it was generally good natured until of course, we won the penalty shoot-out and then the atmosphere totally turned, so much so that a steward asked us to stop celebrating!

Back at the table, we were getting abused, even by female guests, so we left and headed to a ‘gentleman’s club’ to ‘dance’ the night away until the early hours.

We got the train as well and ended up having to get a taxi to Edinburgh airport and a night bus from there. We almost didn’t go as there was a torrential downpour in Edinburgh and we considered just staying in the bar we were in and watching it there. Glad we didn’t.

I still can’t believe they had to chance to win it and Danny Anderson saved it and up stepped Colin Murdoch 🤣🤣🤣. ****er of a night until some hun launched a brick through the southern bus window and had to sit there for hours and missed the pubs open when back.

Great night.

Was in the Montford pre match and it was dead, lucky if there was a dozen Hibbies in. Thinking back I must have been under age as I would only have been 17 then. Frightening where the time goes.

He did have a bit of cramp but I think there was concern he may have had a bit of concussion from being knocked out by Ricksen.

Was a great night, what a team the stickies had out, Broonie on his run back from his penalty giving the Hun pelters who was up next to take one.

None of my pals were bothering to go which tells you how crap we were and the level of expectation. I made a last minute decision to take a half day and grabbed a spare ticket from a workmate, joining him on a bus with all his pals. It was cracking afternoon/evening, especially the penalties. When De Boer stepped up, everyone including him expected a miss! Same with Colin Murdoch but who knew?! I left the ground buzzing until I realised the final was a week after I left to go to Oz for a year! 😆

He sure did
I had seats near the Hibs dugout, and when De boer missed I rang along the concourse, I was a bit daft back then
I was on early morning flight next morning and just couldn’t sleep when I got home

Amazing night. Was a small a Hibs crowd but we were up for it, and it was a really vocal support.

Remember feeling weirdly confident (was actually just talking to my girlfriend about Mikel Arteta playing for Rangers as Arsenal are on the telly just now) and when Arteta stepped up to take that penalty in normal time, I really fancied Andersson to save it.

Even when we went behind, I think everyone felt that there was something in the game for us. The penalties were so intense and up and down, think there were several misses on both sides, and at least one opportunity for them to win it. We were right behind De Boer’s one, and you could see from the moment it left his boot that it wasn’t heading in.

Amazing scenes that night. Can’t remember what we did before the game, but the best thing about that night was that it was when Channel 5 were doing the LC coverage, and repeated the whole game at about 1am.

I was managing a pub at the time so when we got off the bus back in Edinburgh, we just piled into the boozer for a lock in and to watch it all again :greengrin

He runs a landscaping business and has the pub on ER which he is desperate to get back open and does a podcast with David Tanner each week, he is good and thanks for asking.

It was pre proper internet days - I was on a night out in Leeds and was trying to get a taxi. Someone text me that it had gone into extra time and penalties - I phoned a friend in Aberdeen who was watching the game from his bed, and he relayed what was happening to me. A great result.

I then made the trip up for the Final - which turned out to be another chapter in my lengthy list of disappointing trips to Glasgow.

Oh well.
