I’ve not listened to the pre-match press conference yet, did Ross say anything about Newell being fit?

Said he's still out unfortunately.

Cheers.

In that case I’d go with:-

Rocky

Mcginn
Porteous (Daz can’t play 3 games in a week)
Hanlon

Cadden
Irvine
Gogic
Doig

Boyle
Doidge
Murphy

I'd normally say don't change a winning team but I think some of the players night be a bit leggy after two massive efforts. I'd maybe bring in Nisbet and Magennis to freshen it up a bit.

No danger is Boyle getting left out.

I think he might want Nisbet back in the team. Think we’ll keep Doidge in for his presence so could see Cadden being the one to drop out.

Cadden is better at getting crosses in from deep which was what caught out Aberdeen several times vs Livi. Tough choice but someone to bring on for an impact this time around IMO.

Cadden doesn’t muck about in terms of getting crosses in but not seen a great deal of quality with them yet, although I thought he played well against Dundee Utd and Rangers.

Boyle will play, it’s just a case of where.

Good shout.

I mentioned about Daz struggling to play 3 in a week but he won’t be the only one.

Wouldn’t want tk make too many changes but a few might make sense. Magennis only got a few minutes at the end the other night but he did a couple of things that impressed me.

Daz, Cadden, Irvine and Murphy would be the ones I’d have thought could benefit from getting a rest. Dare say that Ross will be looking at the stats to make a decision though.

Was hooked relatively early the other night.

I think Ross will want to get Nisbet back in. Boyle will play. Which then gives him a choice between Doidge and Cadden. With the physicality of the sheep, I think he’ll play Doidge with Boyle going wide.

With the weather projection rain/snow for the next 24hrs and the pitch already a state will the game even go ahead [emoji2955] not conducive to an exciting game more likely a drab 0-0 where both teams cancel each other or 1 mistake defensively wins the game [emoji21]

Good runner, but needs to show more to merit a start. Crossing and passing is abysmal.

We need to force Joe Lewis into making big decisions early on tomorrow. Not peppering the goal with shots from thirty yards out that are easy, confidence building saves but deliveries that make him decide whether to come out or not, catch or punch, leave for his defender or take himself. He looks bereft of confidence as of late and we need to make him have to back himself or not.

I’d leave McGinn out if we go with a three. Porteous McGregor and Hanlon would be my centre half’s. He was very poor the other night and isn’t a natural centre half. Good to have options again middle to front, Nisbet looked sharp when he came on and you can’t really leave Boyle out. Interesting selections regardless. Doidge has to play for his presence both attacking and defending.

JR has got a two or three decisions to make now we have more or less a full squad to chose from

I think he did, he couldn’t keep the ball first half and then got caught under the ball for the second. But also agree that the other three are better central defenders if we go with a three. They’ll be an aerial threat and we can match that with those three plus Doidge and Irvine.

Honestly, I’m not sure.

2 wins on the bounce so I don’t think wholesale changes are needed.

Aberdeen are always strong in the middle of the park so I think that rules out the 442 but my issue is I don’t think Murphy is any use or effective in the number 10 position which is where he would play in a 352.

I also think if there’s a team we would need McGregor to play against it would be Aberdeen, especially with them signing Hornby up top, they’ll be a huge threat from set pieces too.

Aberdeen have played 352 a lot this season so I don’t know if he will go with that to match them. Maybe he will go with 442 like I assume Livingston did as I think they’re weak in the wider positions and struggle with crosses despite their size.

....................Marciano................

.......McGinn....McGregor....Hanlon.....

Boyle......Gogic.......Irvine.........Doig....

............Doidge.........Nisbet.....

I don’t think Cadden deserves to be dropped but if it’s 352 that will be the team imo. Doidge hasn’t been playing great but again I think he will be an important player against Aberdeen. Moving Boyle back to wing back even though I think him playing up top against Aberdeen would be a lot more effective than the previous 2 games as they’ll at least try come at us.

If it’s a 442, even though I’m not convinced Ross would play McGregor as part of a back 4 with the way we play and how often Doig and McGinn bomb forward, risk of his lack of pace being exposed.

Don't change a winning team, keep the ball rolling. Strong bench to make an impact with nisbet, allan, hopefully newell etc.
Nisbet needs to earn his place back for me, Cadden has been good and brings good balance, boyle has been better, with 2 goals in 2 and an assist.

No need to change a team that’s winning games. Strong options off the bench now too.

Pleased Murphy has played well and will get even better with games.

Nisbet has to play IMO which means Murphy drops out. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Cadden in the central midfield 3 with Boyle wide. But I’d go for 3-4-3

For once we look to have a lot of decent options, I haven't a clue how we will line up but more importantly neither does the opposition. Too many times our line up has been predictable and our bench has been poor. Hopefully these days are over.

My definite starters would be Marciano, Porteous, Hanlon, Doig, Irvine, Gogic, Boyle and Nisbet.

That would leave three positions to fill from Cadden, McGinn. McGregor, Murphy and Doidge. The two left out can consider themselves unlucky but a strong squad is required and if we are to be successful then good players will be left out from the starting line up every game.

The bench would also have good options with the two left out from above plus Macey, Magennis, Hallberg, Allan, Stevenson and two others. When Newell and Mackie return we will have a strong bench every week as well.

Play 3 in the middle and we will win. It’s their only really strong area. I’d start with Boyle up top again his pace will damage their back 4/3.

He’s been playing a 3421 a lot. So we need to try and suck them out and create space in behind. Which plenty people on here will class as negative tactics.

I'd like us to match whatever they have in midfield, too often in the past, that is where they have won the game by outnumbering us in there.

And i'd also like us to score at least 1 more goal than them. :greengrin

We seem to get overrun too often in the midfield in games at Easter Road this season against most teams, can't afford for that to happen today.

I'm hopping the introduction of Irvine and Cadden will help remedy this going forward, although having enough bodies in midfield would also help too. :greengrin

Key points for me:
*3 in central midfield essential
*Daz at the back as concentration against the counter attack essential.
*Boyle wide as Aberdeen likely to sit in and pace most likely to make a difference out wide.
*Doidge essential to fight against aggressive centre halves

That’s what I think will happen. I think he’ll want Nisbet back in the team. Obviously wasn’t needed last Saturday but as soon as it looked like we were toiling a wee bit on Tuesday, he was on. And without doing anything special, I thought he made a difference.

I think it’s harsh on both right enough, Cadden looked a better fit at wing back than Boyle has recently and big Daz was solid vs United and the huns.

Surely they are a huge part of the reason we won last week, much more so than Daz and Cadden... I’d have all 4 starting today for me, but in no way would he be ‘changing a winning team’ by bringing them in as they came on and changed the game last week.

Really rate Paul McGinn, but signs he’s he been creaking recently.Saw on another thread that only Conor Goldson has more game time in SPFL this season. Is it time to give him a rest and see what Cadden can do at right back.
Having had their transfer moves blocked it’s time for JR to show how much he values Porteous and Nisbet. Both should start.
As both Porteous and McGregor have more physical presence than Hanlon (always useful against Aberdeen) both should start at centre back.

Would go with 4-4-2

Marciano
Cadden,McGregor,Porteous,Doig
Boyle,Gogic,Irvine,Murphy
Doidge,Nisbet

If this isn’t working there’s always McGinn and Hanlon to bring off. the bench.
