Does everybody think he should be slated ? , he’s not that bad a player , keeper made good save with feet and the chip that hit the bar could have happened to anyone , the only problem I see with him is his fitness

I think he gives more against Celtic assists one and scores one in 2 2 game which is the behaviour of a Rangers fan/player. He needs to give Hibs that all the time and not just when we play Celtic.

He’s an excellent player and has been a very good signing.
However, like many of our players, JR likes to play him out of position

The first miss I can just about accept even though it’s an absolute sitter they happen to everyone.
The second he is trying to be far too fancy. I don’t care what anyone says he’s about 3 yards out and the keeper is getting back to his feet just smash it hard and low into the corner.
What I absolutely cannot accept is his role or lack of in the 3rd. Rooney literally walks past him, receives the ball and fizzes it across goal for Conway to score a tap in.
I think you can see in glimpses he’s a good player but far too many times he’s easy to play against imo. He will cut infield and pass it to a centre mid. He doesn’t have the pace or strength to beat anyone with the exception of the old shoulder drop he does every now and again.
He always looks like he’s away to get injured too, it sounds harsh but he looks/plays like a frail old man that you can tell was good years ago but now struggles with his mobility.

What is his correct position though, and how does that fit in with our other players?
He's been hot and cold. Excellent on his day, very poor on others, injured a fair bit.
I do think we'd see a lot more from some of our players if we could find a striker who could play up front on his own or find a pairing who could play in central midfield as a 2.
As it happens we've got to have Boyle at WB, Nisbet or Doidge playing out of position or not in the side, etc etc.
352 gets as close as we can to playing to most players' strengths but you've still got Boyle at WB and no place for Murphy. 451 you get Boyle and Murphy into decent positions but neither of our strikers look right playing that way.
Our squad is weird and I could see us having to shift a few good players who don't fit to bring in a couple who just fit better. The problem is, some of the players we might need to shift might be more recent arrivals.

He couldn’t put the second one in the corner due to the defender flying across the goal. He had to lift it.

He's not been excellent and he's played in his proper position of left of a front 3 , or left of an attacking midfield 3. It's where he played yesterday.

Sorry I just don’t agree with that. The goalie is getting back to his feet and the defender is trying to slide into his path aswell, trying to chip a goalie from that close is always going to be very difficult.
Foot through it for me.
If I see anyone in that position, for or against us and they have they have that chance I’m expecting the net to burst.

Sadly, players live and die by what they do on the big stage. Murphy was given the perfect chance to prove his worth, and came up short. Not only was it an horrific double miss, it was like a shot in the arm for St Johnstone - just as Nisbet's pen miss in the SC Semi was for Hearts.
He may go on to score and make lots of goals for Hibs, but we need our better players to perform when it really matters.

Trying to upload a photo but it won’t let me. The defender is literally diving at his feet, although Clark is trying to get up he’s also moving across his goal. There is no way he could go for the smallest possible target in the bottom corner. The thought was correct, the execution was horrendous.

He replaced Horgan and so far for me has not been as effective as Daryl was. The stats back that up in terms of goals and more particularly assists per minute. Horgan also provided a bit of a buzz and energy and worked far harder tracking back than Murphy imo but that is a bit unfair as I have only seen Murphy on TV. No doubt there is ability but it hasn't really led to many goals or assists.

The first chance is a shocking miss. The second he actually did really well to gauge the type of finish required but he still should score that more times than not. If he chips it and the keeper gets a hand on it fair enough but to miss the target was poor. Here is the screenshot and your description is spot on

For what it's worth I can forgive the misses on Saturday, to an extent at least although they were rank, but I just think the guy is not doing it for us. Thats when he's fit, and he's barely even that.
If there is ANY chance we can get out of this agreement to keep him we should be activating it and sending him back to Ibrox and putting the budget elsewhere.

433 gets the best out of our players. Boyle plays on the right of the 3 which is also his best position.

I’m not going to slate Murphy,he has been decent in flashes.some supporters were delighted we signed him.
I felt personally horgan was a player who brought energy to the team whilst both players have their limitations,I was very disappointed we swapped horgan out,who obviously wanted to have a crack at the championship down south and fair play to him.but I did feel we would lose that wee bit flair bringing Murphy in.
I just don’t feel Jamie is good enough for hibs.
We have had players who get injured a lot ,when the going gets tough they are posted missing too much.I’m not saying that’s the players fault, but I do feel in some cases it’s a lack of desire to push on for the team.we can’t afford to be relying on guys like that.
In Jamie’s case we have signed a player who is not good enough for hibs and injured to much to be a squad player at the club.
Both party’s should move on.cancel the loan and get a replacement in.

Bad as they were, the misses happen
What would concern me is that he threw in the towel when we went 2 down, wanted to come off from a hamstring injury, just as we had made a sub, stayed on for 5-10 minutes so it couldn't be that bad and never tried a leg for the third goal.
Once your desire goes you are finished and that sub thing was pure selfishness, it was just at that time and if he was feeling it he should have said wait the now.
On his day a very good player, but there is a danger that he is the latest admission to the ER Retirement home frequent by such luminaries as Kuqi, Tudor -Jones, Clancy, Hart & Johanssen.

My concern with Murphy is that it now looks like he doesn’t have the legs to go on the outside and hit the byeline, so defences can show him inside and crowd him out. It might just be he’s out of form of rusty, but a lot of games I’ve seen attacks breakdown with Murphy for those reasons. Think Doig is crucial for Murphy with his energy and overlaps, the flip side is Doig won’t get much defensive support from Murphy.

When Horgan was here he hit the byline, tracked backed but was blowing out his arse by 60 mins, after that he was like a man down, decent impact sub.
Murphy has shown glimpses but looks slow and looks very one footed as he comes inside every time, I don't know if that's because he's lost pace and can't go past a man nowadays but he looks very predictable.

Still think he was a little unlucky with his two attempts. The first the keepers made himself very wide and got a toe to it and the second was lifted a fraction too high. Doesn’t merit the hounding out we are now seeing by many.

I'll watch him more closely next time he plays then. I think hes been at his best inside the pitch. A winger has to beat defenders and deliver chances. Ive not seen much of that yet from the left wing area. Also if Allan gets back to full fitness its unlikely we will play 442....so a struggle to get wingers into the game.

Once he is into his running he is not as slow as he looks. Not blistering speed but he covers the ground in a different way to Doig's fast cadence. The problem is his speed off the mark and it looks like he is wary of 100% acceleration in case his hammy explodes. Has his attributes but file under eggshell like Barker.
When Horgan was here he hit the byline, tracked backed but was blowing out his arse by 60 mins, after that he was like a man down, decent impact sub.

Murphy's always mostly come inside off the left but he's been pretty effective at doing it. I remember him giving us a torrid time when at Well & I saw a fair bit of him at Brighton. Played all his career there. Deceptive runner rather than fast. Think he has been our best player in some of his earlier games excellent goal against Celtic and Dundee. Obviously struggling with persistent hamstring injury which as seen with Kyle M can happen on the back of an acl. Think it looks like he has been rushed back a bit at times.

Nothing to do with selfish
So you don't think that knowing you were carrying an injury and seeing a sub was about to be made that he should have put his hand up and said "wait a minute here boss I am struggling, give the physio time to look at it and me 5 minutes to see if I can run it off"
That is the absolute epitome of selfishness, so focussed on himself that he didn't give a jot that the team were potentially wasting a sub.
I honestly don't think anything could be clearer.

The physio came on and treated him they would likely decide to play on though given his recent injuries physio and coach should have taken him off at that moment. He probably thought he was helping team by staying on therefore being the opposite of selfish. So by your reckoning he wanted to stay on and risk injuring himself more. We still had a few subs to make at that time so no idea what you are talking about.

You have no idea because it doesn't suit your point of view.
Let's remove Murphy from the equation
Joe Soap from Auchenshoogle Rovers is feeling his calf muscle and is not sure if he can play on.
He sees the subs board going up and it is not his number that is being taken off
Does he
A) Say hold off on the sub boss I might not be able to continue
B) Say **** it I don't care take of someone perfectly fit and then have to take me off 2 minutes later and waste a sub unneccessarily
Regardless of how many subs his team have left I think it is widely recognised that the answer should be A)
As for there being plenty subs left on Saturday, if it had been possible I would have taken virtually them all off!
For the record, I specifically said earlier in the thread that I don't blame Murphy for the misses and I will expand on that by saying I like the guy and think he has something to offer us.
I thought though that he was out of order with his handling of this particular situation and if he wasn't selfish he was certainly lacking in awareness for what is not a difficult situation.
What harm would it have caused delaying the sub for 2 minutes and letting the physio look at him?
Would you have still felt that way if we were down to 10 men in a tight cup tie as we had used all our subs?
You natural retort to this will be but it didn't, my reply to that would be but no-one could have known that at the time.

I don’t get the hype about Murphy tbh, always needs to take an extra touch and always cuts inside off the left, players are happy to show him that way now. He’s also not tracked his man on a few occasions now, including the third on Saturday. He’s obviously a talented player but he’s not done much in his Hibs career thus far, but, I’ll support him as long as he’s a Hibs player and hope he only gets better from here.

Still no idea what you are talking about. It was clear he was getting treated up to coach or physio to decide to take him off especially I would have thought given his recent injuries. You are obviously keen to label him as selfish so crack on. :aok:

I don’t get the hype about Murphy tbh, always needs to take an extra touch and always cuts inside off the left, players are happy to show him that way now. He’s also not tracked his man on a few occasions now, including the third on Saturday. He’s obviously a talented player but he’s not done much in his Hibs career thus far, but, I’ll support him as long as he’s a Hibs player and hope he only gets better from here.
That is my view too. Lots of talent but not enough end product and very poor when we don't have the ball. Horgan was a far more limited player but more effective and the work rate made others round about him work harder imo

The sub was made before he went down!!!!
He had clearly never mentioned it.
Are you being deliberately obtuse?

You’ve just said it yourself, the sub was made before he went down. We can’t then go back and say ‘sorry ref, he’s now injured, get him back off the now until we see how Murphy is’.

The sub was being made just at the point he went down.
The play had stopped
Surely that was the chance to say stop the sub gaffer I have a problem here and let me see how I get on?
Clearly I am the only one it annoyed :-)

The sub was done, we went to take the corner (think it was a corner) and he went down. We also had two more subs thereafter so it really wasn’t the end of the world. Regardless I’d imagine that sub was getting done, Doidge was always coming on and Cadden would always have been going off.

No matter what you think of his abilities there is no doubt that, as of yet, he has been a complete dud at Hibs so far.
He needs to start making more of an impact at Hibs. It would be good to see the best of him.

Why would they do hat when he's played well and got 12 goals in 21 games?

My worry is that he's a loan player and Saturday was bit of a laugh to him, meaning he thinks he's above Hibs and sees himself as Rangers player which subconsciously might prevent him from being totally committed and busting a gut to score. Should have put his foot right through both efforts.

He has signed a permanent contract for next season though.

An important caveat we should all bear in mind when assessing players this season IMO.

The team played well enough on Wednesday without Murphy,I wouldn’t be in a rush to start him tomorrow.

No danger does Murphy start today.
I'd be inclined to start much the same way from the Rangers game.

He's one of our better players. If Newell is fit both he and Murphy will start.

He's yet to prove it, a few brief glimpses here and there is not enough, been on the treatment table more than the pitch this year, poor signing and to give a year after this is a bad decision.

You obviously have no idea what the deal was that Hibs and The Rangers signed.
Murphy is initially on 'loan' until the end of this season, but will be on a permanent contract with Hibs from the summer. The Rangers agreed to let him leave early on this pseudo-loan deal with the agreement he's not allowed to play against them this season.
Murphy is, for all intents and purposes, a Hibs player.

Hibs were set up not lose of Wednesday. I don’t think we need to be so defensive against United. If Newell is fit I’d bring him back in for Gogic. Let’s stick with the 3-5-2 but push Irvine on a bit.
