Cliff is part of the furniture at Hibs TV and I think he does a fine job, having volunteered hundreds if not thousands of hours for the Club.

I don't like Tanner as a presenter at all though. Comes over as awkward, forced, and uncomfortable.

The commentary audio needs to be addressed ASAP. It's really poor, can't imagine what it'd be like to reply upon the audio only coverage.

I watched most of that game in silence because Cliff is just so repetitive. OK he's a good guy and all that but his commentary is a one dimensional borefest.
In my humble opinion of course. I understand for some folks his dedication to Hibs outweighs all but I'd rather someone else for the money I pay.

The Hibs TV feed was being used for SPL international tonight so commentators had to be more neutral than normal. The tech is badly letting the commentators down too. They had new headsets tonight that still weren’t right, not sure what issue is there. As for Tanner, least said the better

I agree, I quite enjoy the coverage and while Tanner wouldn’t have been my choice he doesn’t really bother me. I found it quite funny that the most animated he’s ever been was when he found out Gullan had a single figure handicap, he almost jumped out his chair.

For me, it is obvious that Cliff has his limitations from a commentary perspective. Getting names wrong, same cliches etc. However it would be wrong to not have him on given the years of service he has given to Hibs TV prior to the need of anything like this streaming service. He is streets ahead of that Irish guy we had on for a couple of weeks.

Tam McManus is alright. Think he generally calls the games as he sees them. My one criticism (albeit it is probably true), is he tends to have a pop at Hibs fans quite frequently. “these are the type of games that Hibs fans would be on their backs worrying for the last 10 mins” etc etc.

Tanner is woeful. He’s painful to watch - I just cringe at him. Can’t hold a conversation without stuttering his way through the question. Never have I seen a more obvious example of someone looking like they are thinking of what they need to say. From seeing a few posts on Twitter, although he is often complimentary to Hibs, IMO he is a hun and comes over as obvious. Would not have him anywhere near Hibs if I had the chance.

Tanner can go for me, never like his smarmy face, and I can take it or leave if with Tam. I'd love to go back to the days when Johnnyboy was doing it, I think he'd be a breath of fresh air on the tv, although he does have a face for radio. :wink:

Cliff and Tam do a good job maybe not as partisan as some clubs commentary team but nowt wrong with that. Have listened to Huns and Celtic TV they are both an embarrassment
Tanner cannae stand very rarely watch any build up and at half time turn over for half time scores or sky sports news

Thanks for the lecture. Now I'll continue to say what I want, when I want as long as it's within the rules of the forum. In this instance it is my opinion that Cliff's commentary reduces my overall pleasure in watching Hibs tv which I pay seventeen odd quid a month for.
His service to Hibs or how he compares to other clubs commentators is irrelevant.

Both Cliff and Dave are fans first and Hibs TV volunteers second.

Personally I prefer Dave, but that's maybe simply down to my ears wanting a change after years of Cliff.

Both have their faults (I doubt either would say otherwise) but they're pretty good at a difficult job.

Like the majority of people, the commentary serves me most by naming the opposition players. There are obviously plenty that are easy to recognise but they're probably the minority if you consider all matches. Who here can recognise the Alloa squad?

It's also worth remembering that Cliff was a long time poster on here and probably still looks in. Dave is still a member.

They're both good guys and don't deserve some of the comments on here.

And for what it's worth, I'd rather see the pundit seat (Tam) rotated between a few different people to avoid getting the same opinions every match.

There comes a time when even your favourite comfortable armchair needs replacing even if it is still doing a job.
I hugely respect what Cliff has done on a voluntary basis over the years but his description of what is happening is not sharp enough nor detailed enough and it is too often a languid retrospective commentary on what has happened rather than a quickfire description of what is happening. I'd still have him doing the summarising and interviews, maybe even give him a go in the studio instead of Tanner, but I do think it is time to favour a more energetic, sharper and more detailed match commentator. In these respects I think Irish Dave has already got the edge on Cliff and he has more room for improvement. Sorry Cliff.

The instudio set up needs to change, it's old skool af, they need to engage a new media outfit (I notice the new non exec board member runs her own media / production company , so would think she'd have something to say on the matter) and totally redo it.

New presenters, new vibe. Doesn't need a massive budget, just needs energy, ideas and good production. Which is lacking.

The Hibs TV stuff after the first week just seems thrown together and very stop start ? Not sure anyone is really responsible for it, a lot of this will be down to staffing I’m sure however hibs need to realise they will want to be selling season tickets soon and at the moment this feed is all they have to offer

The guest need to be willing to give an opinion ? If Scott Allan can go on sky and give an opinion on hibs v rangers then surely Mathie can go on hibs tv and give an opinion when we got beat by livi.

We have a massive stadium surely we can find a better place to host the studio ? & when we do surely we can improve the lighting & sound , why not just do it outside ?

Tanner is awkward doesn’t seem to know much about hibs or really do his research and is likely costing us a few pennies. Don’t understand why we haven’t used Grant Stott or even Barrie Wilkins to present or even put it out to the fans, there is bound to be a budding TV personality out there that’s doing something at collage or uni. Even mix it up every few weeks

Similarly to the team at the moment the whole of the club seems to just be quite dull, bland and just plodding along . Social media content, video content , hibs TV content just seems to have went backwards... even looking at Twitter just now, 18hrs after the game not one post with the managers interview, player interview absolutely nothing

Times are tough but we defo need to sharpen things up again, if we have let too many staff go then maybe time to rectify it as now more than ever the fans need to be kept enguaged with the club

I’m just grateful to be able to see the home matches live in my front room. Most would have been happy enough if the feed started a few minutes before KO with the team line ups then straight into the game. The club have tried to offer more with punditry and presenters but it is just something else for fans to get ripped into. Been guilty of it myself with David Tanner at the beginning of it all, but when you look at the bigger picture we should be thankful for what we are getting during these challenging times.

Hibs TV has come on leaps and bounds since its inception, I've no complaints about Cliff, Tam or anyone else who contributes to it, I'm grateful they do, I think it is a great success as a service: as to David Tanner (I don't really know who he is, some on here seem to have an "issue" with him) I personally think he does a very decent job.
I'm sure Hibs TV would fare very well when compared with other club set-ups: no real point in comparing it with the professional set-ups and when I read the comments on here about BBC Scotland or whatever it is you watch your football on back home, it seems they too are mostly presented by biased, amateur people who are out of their depth (??). Wonder how many on here could do the job better? :rolleyes:

Poor guy has to try and sell ***** every 5 minutes. Becomes more like the shopping channel every week.
In between this tedium and his mic problems his guests are an ex player who drops the F bomb (my only smile of the afternoon) and the club sporting director who wants to avoid saying anything of substance about the performance or more importantly the transfer window whilst keeping himself as far away as possible from Gaz because he probably hasn't been social distancing over Christmas.

At least 3 reasons why Mathie shouldn't have been there.

Lexo was a good guest on Wednesday but unluckily for Tanner he kept speaking when the director told him it was time for him to sell ***** again or say pish about sponsors and partners.

Cliff is very good, as is Tam but like others, I'm not so keen on David Tanner.
