Was watching ( on telly of course ) Sevilla v Valladolid tonight ( finished 1 v 1 with a fantastic late equaliser for Valladolid ) and with rain and empty stadium it got me thinking of our friendly there in December 1986 . It was a Tuesday night with about 2000 in ground ( local paper said 4000 I think ) including about 40 Hibbies with a lot of rain like today . The match was nearly put off for 24 hours because of rain . It was our second match with Alex Miller as our manager , first match had been a goalless draw at ER against Miller`s lifelong club Rangers just 3 days before . We lost 2 v 0 and I remember the ref finished early as players started to lose control ( Kano was sent off after about 85 minutes ) . Think a lot of problems had probably started at pre season friendly played on a very hot day at ER in August the same year . Anyway , this friendly in Seville on a very wet night with a tiny crowd in a massive , open stadium is still a big memory for me as I was actually living in Seville at the time ( going to match nearly cost me my job ) . Was anyone else here at the match ? There were about 40 Hibbies there who had travelled up from Costa del Sol after flight to Malaga plus odd fan like me ( I watched with 4 Partick Thistle fans who were living in Seville area at the time ) . Long time ago and a friendly in December was very unusual ( no winter breaks then ) and 1980s were not a great time for Hibs but not many clubs would have had so many fans for a friendly . Anyone here remember the game ?

There was a feature on the two friendlies against Seville in the Evening News recently. I think it was the Friday before the Motherwell game.
It’s an interesting article but typical of the News these days as they had no team news or feature on the Motherwell game.

I was there with 4 others although 2 got in very late(long story)
It was a very bad tempered match Alex Miller threatened to take the team off the pitch at one point as the local ref was giving Sevilla everything and letting jock Wallace's team away with some shocking challenges.
Some Sevilla fans were actually gobbing at us as we played in the same colours as their rivals Real betis.
I think they may have shared a stadium at that time.
Brilliant trip though as that's when i first discovered Cruzcampo

There were quite a few winter friendlies back then iirc. Vaguely recall this game though. I'm sure we played Swansea one winter evening at ER?

Correct. We played Swansea on a Friday night; it was a weekend when the Welsh were here for the rugby.

Seem to remember playing Dynamo Moscow on a Friday night in the mid 80s.

We played Swansea three times in four seasons between 1980/81 and 1983/84, all at Easter Road (1-1, 1-0 & 1-0).
