"Tom James broke the deadlock with a brave diving header..."

Lost a tooth, 4th goal of the season. Be interesting to see what happens with him in January. Popular with fans, playing well. Needs to be playing regularly, hope he stays for the rest of season and we get a decent fee in the summer.

I’ve never understood that point ..That’s the level many decent players have come from. The level of the league is still good enough to handle someone who can’t play at a decent standard. David Gray came from that level for example. I’d simply note it’s good to see that he’s coming in to a bit of form through regular games .

Its league 1 right? We have signed plenty of quality players from that level or lower.

Yep, it’s as ***** patter as those down south describing us as a pub league.

Hope he comes back and challenges for a place in the team. Seems he is playing with a lot of confidence.

Regardless of level, there’s loads of examples of English players with good reputations coming up to Scotland and failing, and vice versa.

Don’t think there’s any way back for Tom at Hibs but pleased to hear he’s having a good season.

Hopefully we can offload him in January. Would be even better if we get a transfer fee for him.

Depends if he’s on a good wage and if we could get a good fee to re-invest in the team, but could he not come back and compete with McGinn? One less position we need to sign and move Gray on/into coaching.

No chance. He is awful that's why we got rid of him.

Not for me. His main issue was being painfully slow. That won’t really have changed. Not nearly good enough for this level imo.

What position is he playing for them?

He clearly has something, I could never figure out where to fit him into a team. He certainly didn’t look much like what I know a fullback to be.

Tom James is technically really good. Looked continually unfit at us. Is it an attitude problem, naturally lacking athleticism or simply trouble settling in? We'll find out.

I don't think he was as bad as people are making out. He got 12 games in a team where nobody looked great, including Doidge & Newell.

In saying that, Jack Ross never found a place for him and didn't seem to stand in his way when he wanted a move South again so maybe it'd be better all round if his move becomes permanent.

Good that hes doing decent down there. Gives us a better chance of offloading him and getting a fee for him that can be spent on better.

Which is fine if it’s fire being flung, as it is there’s just a lot of **** to clean off the walls.

James is a decent footballer but an awful defender based on what we saw

The master of jogging along beside someone without ever bothering to put a tackle in or block a cross

It may be that he was painfully unfit and hung out to dry after getting badly hurt in his first league game and maybe being brought back before he was fit.

You could also look to how long it took Newall & Doidge to adapt and the fact that others couldn't and give him time to adapt

I would need to watch him for a few games to be sure, but he would have a lot of convincing to do and he would be doing very well to displace Paul McGinn when David Gray hasn't got near to.

I would prefer to get him off the books and get someone in who might contribute

I never thought he was as bad as some fans thought. i was the same with Newall and am the same with Wright. Football has a huge amount to do with confidence. Tom James started off his Hibs career poorly in a team performing poorly. If he came back now after playing games he may have that extra yard of pace in his legs and his head. If Ross doesn't fancy him there is a fair chance we can at least offload him without any further money being spent. The loan has worked well for all 3 parties

I never thought it was an attitude problem as such. Everything just always looked like it was done at half pace and lacked any real urgency though. Think that was just the way he was

Got rid? He’s only on loan is he not?

James was a poor right back, slowest full back I can think of at Hibs, and Newell was also poor during that time, played left midfield and was a left winger who never beat his man. Doidge was a non scoring centre forward in a non scoring team. Jack Ross has turned 2 of those players round, and sent one out on loan and brought in someone who has performed much better than the guy he replaced. I think Jack knows what he is doing.

I thought Doidge was pretty awful and was about ready to write off Newell as well, so as much as my instinct tells me that James isn't quite good enough for us, my instinct has been shown to be an absolute moron.

Hopefully Tom continues his good form regardless of what happens regarding his future, that ultimately benefits all parties involved. Seems like a likeable guy too.

Michael Hart made James look like Usain Bolt tbh.

Just remember the transformations we've seen in Doidge and Newall before fully writing them off. James could return to us a different player and prove to be very useful. It's always worth having competition and cover all over the park. I love SDG but I think we are seeing his days at club as a player come to an end.

According to Transfermarkt he has mostly been deployed at RB, occasionally filling in at LB or CB.

I don't think he has a future at ER. He was dropped as soon as Hecky left and we signed 2 RBs on short-term deals rather than play James again.

👍
He certainly didn’t look a capable RB in his last few games for us .
Thought they were maybe playing him further up the park but maybe his confidence was sucked out of him under Heckingbottom and he couldn’t get it back in his couple of games under Ross .
