No way he would be getting Paul McGinn out of the team any time soon.
When you factor in that we still have Gray and James on the books it wouldn't be a good signing.

Did say he loved our club and fans and wanted to make a permanent move to us.
We will need defensive cover going into the second half of the season for when injuries and suspensions start to take a toll and whilst we have McGregor and SDG they are both quite injury prone themselves. I like Naismith and would be a good additional the squad IMO

Would prefer O’Donnell if both are going to be free from now/January (sure I read O’Donnell only signed until January).
Naismith is decent so wouldn’t be a bad signing, but not an upgrade on what we have IMO so probably wouldn’t sign him.

I liked Naismith. Thought we missed him going forward. Would be a good signing, both as competition at right back but also as first choice rwb if we play SPM as part of a 3 in the middle.

I wonder if Jason can play any other position. Paul is versatile. We don't have the strength in depth of Aberdeen so there may be scope for signing even if he wouldn't displace Paul.
I thought he was decent enough.

How fit is Naismith, did he not have a cruciate injury?

Would definitely like us to go for him, even if it is as cover. Gray is a legend but I think he’s done as a right back, he doesn’t have the legs anymore imo. If Paul gets injured I think we’d be in trouble, some of the wingers in this league would rip DG to shreds

Good going forward but can struggle defensively. Would be a squad player if we signed him.
I remember a game at Paisley last season where St Mirren's Durmus terrorised him all game. Having said that Durmus is a decent player - would love us to sign him, albeit we've already got plenty wingers.

Sorry, I meant he wouldn’t improve the team, in that McGinn is ahead of him, and when we already have Gray as back up, we really don’t need Naismith.
hibbysam

Is a much better attacking full back than McGinn, very good option when we go 3 at the back, and allows McGinn to play centre half in that instance.

Need to applaud your correct use of the phrase going forward, as in ‘when we are attacking’ rather than as a vacuous space filler.

Really liked him during his spell with us and would welcome him back. He seemed to really get us as a club and know what the fans expected.
That being said I can’t see us signing him as I don’t think we are in the market for a right back, if we were I think we would have got O’Donnell in the summer.
Ross has mentioned we’re working with a much smaller squad and that he quite likes it, with us having Gray and even Hallberg that could fill in at right back never mind the option of moving to a 352 I think we’re comfortable there and he would rather invest the money elsewhere.
Given O’Donnells contract with Motherwell is up in January, I wonder if he’s told them he’s off and they’ve made a quick move for Naismith.

Naismith would have been a good option to bring in if we didn't have SDG sitting picking splinters out his back side on the bench. We might have seen more of Naismith too. But at the moment I would feel uneasy adding another RB to our list when we have about 3 on the books and only 1 plays and another is out on loan hoping we can get someone to take him.
He was probably a more natural wing back (despite the fact he looks like a Sunday league centre forward in stature) than Paul McGinn but perhaps Paul is more secured defensively? Either way I don't think it'll be us he rocks up at, but I wish him luck wherever he goes except when he plays us.

Cover for right back, right wing back and right centre half.

Well Wigan are in L1, at least for this season! I think James is a decent footballer but his lack of pace doesn't help at full back. I think he could provide cover as a defensive mid player.

Do you get the feeling Gray might move elsewhere permanently even though he has 3 years left on his deal. Nothing he can do if Ross doesn't fancy him and his levels have dropped, down to the Championship maybe like Whittaker.

When the 4 year deals for Daz and SDG were announced LD was quite clear in saying that the long deals were intended to carry them past the end of thier playing time and eventually transition into coaching and/or club ambassador roles.
Not sure how long that will be but while they have a contract and can stay fit i cant see them moving on there is a place for them in the squad, even if it is just for cover. If that isn't what they want or that isn't the plan any more under the new owner, who knows

Yeah I knew the reason for the long deals but if Gray feels fit enough to play, sitting on the bench as cover probably wasn't what he was expecting right now, he may feel like Whittaker that he could do a job for someone. There's very few youngsters at the club to mentor or train since Covid and we've trimmed the squad, plus the majority have all been loaned out.

Naismith is a decent right back but he’d have been on the bench with Paul McGinn first pick. If the club has any player budget, which I doubt given the financial effect of no fans, it should be used for strengthening other areas of the team or hold in to it until the summer.

If he gets fit quickly, it's a massive upgrade on Keith Watson and Connor Randall for them.
One for us to keep an eye on. If he does well, we could move for him this time next year, given he is four years younger than McGinn and can do a job at right centre-half too.
