Anyone else see him very subtly crossed himself as soon as game kicked off tonight? Wonder if done in fear of his international fans.

No. Why would it matter, even if he prostrated himself before a framed photo of the virgin before the KO,?

It certainly wouldn't matter to me. But if you think it wouldn't matter to a large element of the **** support AND NornIrish bigots as well then you're at the wind up.

The man is entitled to practice his religious beliefs at anytime, anywhere,if other people disagree that’s their problem.

Let’s leave it to them.

He's from the Lower Falls Road, a fact that the Hunnish types who follow Northern Ireland (and Hearts to lesser extent) will be well aware of, and whether he crosses himself or not probably won't make much difference tbh, they'll tolerate him as long as he performs.

As someone who grew up in NI during the Troubles and as a fan of NI, I couldn't give a flying one if Liam Boyce crosses himself. Do you think some NI fans didn't cheer when he scored the winning penalty to get NI a play-off game

I think your comment says more about you than him

Illuminating answer. I’m obviously not as clued up on the rules of fantasy sectarian football as you.

Fwiw,I would say most Hearts fans don’t give a **** what religion Boyce follows.

As for Northern Ireland, the fans obviously hated Michael O’ Neil, their most successful manager in more than half a century.

Likewise with the hearts lot. I know they have their fair share of little neds who shout and sing some unsavoury stuff, but genuinely doubt they care less about what religion their players are.

He's not very good. Probably praying for a dodgy penalty after 90 mins.

Someone crossing themselves means diddly squat to me.

Its quite refreshing that very few people care any longer. Those that do need to look in the mirror and ask themselves why.

We're getting awfully worked up over a team that we apparently think it's okay to lose 2 or 3 games a season to. :dunno:

I think you’re confusing a discussion around a Hearts player crossing himself with actual football issues. Not that you’re obsessed with losing to Hearts or anything though:wink:

So, never mind that, get the prediction league scores on the doors:aok:

No right thinking person should give a hoot about another’s religion however caveat here is that NI fans are drawn very predominantly from one community over here so unfortunately some element of sectarianism is inevitable amongst their fans.

I'd imagine that 99.9% of Hearts Fans couldn't care less what religion the guy is.

I expect this will shock some people, but the vast majority of Hearts Fans are just decent, ordinary people, the same as us.

Doesn't mean I actually like them, but there you go... ;-)

Very true.
Windsor Park is and always has been a cold place for Catholics/Nationalists. Whilst it's much better now than it ever has been, the likes of The Billy Boys was sung regularly until the last ten years or so. Majority of NI Catholics follow ROI not NI and will continue to do so. Even NI Catholic footballers such as Mark Sykes don't want to play for the North.
