Interesting viewpoint on a term I've always found a bit, well, strange.

My girlfriend got pulled up for using ‘BAME’ at work recently... not by her actual employer but an external party. She was told it was offensive and that the correct term is apparently “person who experiences racism”. She was also told that it was racist to describe any “person who experiences racism” by their nationality. Crazy.

OK, that's just weird.

I agree with you in that I've always found the term a bit strange and wouldn't be comfortable using it. I think the struggle with trying to please everyone with labels like these is you end up with phrases that mean nothing, or at least don't mean what they're intended to mean.

Does the suggested "ethnically diverse communities" or "diverse ethnic communities" really say what is intended?
