Hi all, long time (10+ years) lurker, very infrequent poster.

Watched the final whistle through my fingers last night. Agree very much with jonnyboy's (as usual) excellent analysis. We shot ourselves in the foot.

Before the game, I got out the Hibs scarf I've had for over two decades and draped it in front of the telly. Now, I've been going to Hibs games since I was wee, in the mid 90s. Not the best time to start. I watched us get beat by Stirling Albion. I witnessed old men cry in public for the first time when we went down in 1998. I was excited enough by football in general to stick in. After all, at my first games Jim Leighton was the Scotland goalie and Scotland were on their way to the world cup.

Yet being a Hibs fan was a source of constant anxiety. Even though there were rewards as McLeish came in and I got to witness some great football, enjoying European nights and international legends like Le God, the excitement of raised expectations was too often cruelly followed by crushing disappointment. As we all know, Hibs seemed to excel at giving you just enough hope to keep you coming back for more pain. I wore my scarf to big cup games and watched us lose when it seemed easier to win (I remember the 1999 semi-final against Aberdeen being a particularly sore one).

For a while now, I've sort of had a bad feeling about that scarf. It's white with the old 90s club badge. The only things that's stopped me chucking it are the fact that it feels disloyal to put a 'HIBERNIAN' banner in the bin, and that I'm fairly (though not completely) sure I wore it to the 6-2 game, the best football match of my life.

I also need to mention that I couldn't go to THE cup final and watched it in the pub, and if I remember correctly the scarf stayed at home.

Your opinions appreciated!

You need to have an exorcism carried out on that scarf it's obviously cursed :scarf::scarf:

Stick it in a box in the attic. I blame my pants for yesterday, that’s where they’re going too.

Two votes for burning, one for exorcism, one for sticking it out of sight. Not sure if any exorcists are available. And I'm afraid its malign power might work through attics... but could burning Hibs merchandise bring down worse luck?!

I left an old Hibs golf towel on the altar of the local chapel for the weekend where Ive been working this week in the hope of some spiritual intervention, but that proved to be waste of time. Looks like God is in cahoots With Tom English, The BBC and Willie Collum to undermine our fortunes.

Won’t be forgotten next time the collection plate comes round :agree:

Maybe that lot have been sent to test us. I think maybe we're on our own down here.

...unless Sauzée fancies a second go in the green and white?

if it was maroon it might catch fire on its own from being vigorously twirled round someone's head
