Looking fwd to listening in to this one.

Downright shame how he was treated by some after all these years you could see the anguish in his St Pats session.

A Credit and a measure of the man that he still loves the Hibs.

Always liked Joe had many a disagreement with fannies who started the abuse before he even stepped on the pitch.

Great guy. A stalwart of many Alloa Hibs POTY dos, even after he stopped playing. Many worse players that Joe played for us and got less abuse than him

A vastly under rated and much criticised player.

Had a fabulous left foot and was a confidence player and the Hibs fans played a big role in destroying that fragile confidence.

Was in the sponsor lounge in the 80’s Hibs were 2-0 down I think against Hamilton an inspired Joe set up two goals and Hibs won 3-2 we voted him MoM. He got a great ovation when collecting his award in the lounge after the game. Can’t recall who presented it but they joked Joe does not get many mom awards or indeed the recognition he deserves.

Agree, I could never understand how some so called fans could treat him the way they did, but come to think of it the same behaviour is still with us today.

Joe played in this one Hibs should have won by five or six. Hearts kept 11 on the pitch which really makes you wonder about the ref especially after the last minute free kick for them.

Hope you guys enjoy the interview. Joe was top class and only disappointment is that it didn’t last longer due to zoom restrictions

Bill Crombie. Well known Jambo ****er. If I remember rightly, there were a few practicing Jambo's in the refereeing fraternity at that time.

The referees manhandling of Kevin Harper after the incident with Rousett was appalling as well.

Interesting listen

I knew at the time Joe was a confidence player and did not agree with the shouts from the terraces but did not appreciate the affect it was having on his mental health

I suppose nowadays clubs have bigger squads so everyone feels involved and health care professionals to deal with any issues both physical and psychological

Nothing beats actually playing but Super Joe Tortolano will always be a legend in my eyes

Well worth a listen for anyone that saw Joe play

I recall a great volley from about 25 yards at brockville one night. It was hard to see much due to poor floodlights but joes volley stood out.

Pasquale Bruno could have been jailed for that.

Just listened to Joe’s interview. Comes across as a decent guy and good to hear he’s still a Hibee.

Interesting to hear that he preferred left back, saying he was more involved in the game. I always felt Miller did him no favours by playing him there.

For younger netters, Joe was a wee(ish) guy with a tasty left foot. He was a great crosser of the ball, but maybe lacked a bit of trickery. He was switched to left back and played a lot of games there, but you wouldnae say he was a great defender, being much better getting up the field and swinging over those deep curling crosses.

Sadly Joe is probably best remembered for launching wee Strachan into the old North Enclosure with a mistimed attempt at a tackle, resulting in Torto being sent off after a few minutes of Gordon Rae’s testimonial. Daftie ref should have just got Miller to hook him immediately. The match turned into a procession as Man U gubbed us with ease.

The level of abuse Joe had to endure simply wouldn't be tolerated these days by fellow fans and/or stewards and polis.

It's to his eternal credit that even though it clearly effected him he never hid from the ball.

When I think of some of the absolute dug***** that have pulled on the shirt for us in the years since Torto retired it actually annoys me even more!

Glad I was at the midweek Hamilton game (mentioned further up the thread) to see Super Joe rightfully awarded the Man of the Match award.

He was great that night too though. Honest as the day is long, and suffered from the boo boys whilst playing. Loved the leather jacket stylee. Joe Joe super Joe.
