View Full Version : Considine called up

Andrew Considine called up along with McGinn.
At 33 you have to imagine Clarke is just giving him a cap for a bit of recognition. Not exactly one for the future.

When I saw that the first thing that went through my mind was why Paul Hanlon wasn't called up first. Paul is playing his best football at the moment I think

CB at consistently the 3rd best side in Scotland for years. Rather him being called up than some random from Hull City

I wonder if this means that Porteous starts on Sunday and AC is brought in as backup.

Hanlon's certainly playing well, and I wouldn't begrudge him the call up if he was going to play, but given how short of CHs we are, I'm relieved he missed out.

Like other posters I’m glad no more of our players are getting called up, but wtf, Considine ? Absolute joke he’s been called up ahead of Paul Hanlon. As much as I like Porteous, based on form this season, Paul Hanlon should have been in before him.

IMO, Porteous is the one of the three that should be called up. He’s the one that could potentially develop in to an international player.
I’m not for a minute saying I think Concidine should be in the squad, but if it was the other way round the Aberdeen fans would probably be saying pretty similar things as we are saying about Concidine.

Great for Porteous and McGinn being called up, but IMO they’ve not even been our best defenders this season. Hanlon must be wondering why he’s been overlooked.

I totally get that Porteous is one for the future, but it’s not as if Paul Hanlon is old and he’s a far better player imo than Considine.

I quite like Considine as a player, he’d be similar ability to Hanlon and the fact that he’s been in the squad before probably swings things in his favour. Having said that I think that Hanlon fully deserves a call, he’s been outstanding this season.

Different side. We've loads of options at lcb, no many at rcb.

Well deserved and overdue given some of the players who have been capped over the past few years.
If Consadine had been with us we would have been screaming for his inclusion for a few years now.
Stalwart in a consistant Aberdeen side for quite a while.

Similar apart from the fact Hanlon is quicker, a better passer and reads the game better. All qualities you need in International Football.
I would add I can’t recall Considine doing anything apart from passing square or hoofing it forward.
Considine is probably more rugged and physical but his qualities are not so important in international football as in domestic.

Tierney plays left of a back three for Arsenal. And Cooper, who is captaining Leeds.

Yeh so Hanlon should feel a bit pissed off about not being brought in. Based on all current form. But we need him more than Scotland right now.

Perhaps with one half of our central pairing away on Internationals already Clarke hasn't called him up for that reason?
I thought clubs could get games postponed with 3 or more full internationals away also?

I know it's only Cove but it's no really the point. Right now we have 4 players away playing full internationals and there's no rule in place for the League Cup to protect this because they know the Old Firm won't be playing.

Different side of the back three. Obviously looking to retain some balance with a left footer.
FWIW, I think Porteous should be in the team as he’s the one, of them all, that has the potential to develop in to an international player.

These are competitive games so I’m going to stick my head on the block and say there is next to no chance McGinn plays in either of the games. A bench filler due to the number of pull outs/injuries. Porteous and McCrorie are miles in front of McGinn in the pecking order. We’ve got a big game during the week and then a huge game at the weekend, we need all our players fit and firing for Hibs, Scotland will cope even if McGinn wasn’t there.

Maybe he called up Porteous with eyes on playing him in a 3 rather than a 2. Hes inexperienced at this level so it would potentially a better option than throwing him in a 2 with a player hes never played with before

With circumstances as they are, we’ve seen how quickly things change. This time last week, who’d have thought Andy Concidine would be starting.
Would think if McGinn does get an opportunity, it would be in place of Stephen O’Donnell as opposed to in the back three where you might see the other two.
As for coping, so will Hibs and he’ll be back in our team at the weekend.

Aye he could, especially in the Steve Clarke version. I don’t think Paul McGinn is an international football player by the way, but now he’s there I hope he gets a cap to recognise his efforts for us this year.
As for injuries and Covid, that can happen anywhere. I’m pretty sure I know where Paul McGinn wants to be this week. And I’m pretty sure it’s no Forfar.

I agree with all your points, I just don’t think he’ll play, which to me would be a waste for the week. I’ll be over the moon if he does and hoping he does a turn and comes back fully fit and raring to go again. The fact these two games are huge for us getting into Tier 1 of the nations league and all the perks that brings then I doubt if he’ll play.

Porteous has been excellent this season so far.
I don't think he is quite ready for international football never mind out of position at left centre half.

I said on the match thread Considine is doing well. He’s a left side CH Porto is not and had a bit of mare last time out for Hibs. The experience will do Porto the world of good and drive him on. Paul McGinn has been outstanding for Hibs is in the squad on merit. I hope he gets his chance.
