What? Too soon...

A good number of free agents out there

Jackson Irvine still without a club

And I feel, as many others have also stated, we’re still shy a first team striker

I highly doubt we will sign or even be linked with any free transfers so there won’t be much to focus on.

Based on nothing but looking at transfermarkt’s list of free agents

Kevin Stewart - Defensive midfielder who can also play in defence - left Hull City

Jackson Irvine

Ryan Shotton - Centre Half/right back who left Middlesbrough

Jozo Simunovich - formerly of Celtic who paid £6m for him

Duncan Watmore - JR will know him well from Sunderland

Steven Kingsley - Scottish left sided defender who left Hull City

Andy King - former Leicester midfielder was on loan at the huns last season

Watmore would certainly be an interesting one. Not played much the last few years I assume that's down to injuries?

Because Hibs' transfer window is over and that's what the OP was concerned with, so he decided to close it.

According to a poster on Kickback's transfer thread* it's a "done deal" for Kingsley to go to them. If true then it looks like they're struggling to get enough bodies out the door to be able to fund it.

*It's a highly entertaining thread containing such choice nuggets as (I paraphrase) "Nisbet is fat and will be back in the Scottish Championship in a couple of years" and "Ron the Con's transfer policy is like Vlad's" - I missed the busloads of Lithuanians arriving at ER and the suspicious 5-figure weekly salaries being dished out to obvious no-hopers. Meanwhile, a poster thinks that Hearts have emerged from the window without being weakened in the left back area, presumably having missed Hickey's departure for a fee that's probably above what you'd pay for the rest of the squad put together.

Simunovich a great player I reckon if fit. A fairly big if granted. Surprised he is without a club.

I always thought he was a bit of a liability who was one of the players you would be looking to "get at" when playing Celtic.

The same was true of Ambrose right enough, and he was certainly good enough for us.

Really? You've never heard of him? He's a decent LB. No idea where Hearts are getting the money for him. He would have been on a decent wage at Hull. He only played 8 times last season....so no idea how they can have any indication of his current form.

They didn't need to kick him last time, just doubled up and he was out the game. He needs to go and take the game to them. He needs to play well. He's only really ever had 1 good game in a derby, the one where he scored twice. Otherwise he has been average/poor despite people saying he'll rip them up.

Their big players never had a problem playing well in derbies. Boyle shouldn't either.

Like Joey Barton was?

Wilshere looked great at Arsenal surrounded by brilliant players, looked average at best with West Ham surrounded by their players, if that continues then how's he going to look when he's surrounded by Brendan Barker and Ryan Jack?

Tbf, in this league, Ryan Jack is a quality player.

Wilshere has been ruined by injuries. There was 8 years between his best football at Arsenal and his West Ham spell. I don't think he'd do well here, now, because he cant move. His ability was never in question.

Not aimed at you at all, but I always find it so sad hearing stories like his and seeing others be so heartless about it (overrated, over paid, etc). Him, and Gotze, were exceptional talents in their teens. If they had reached even half that potential, they would both have been world class players for years. Injuries and other fitness issues destroyed both of them.

I'm not going to feel sorry for the likes of Wilshere or Goetze, they've had unbelievable careers. Wish I'd been so unlucky.

I've nae idea what Wilshere was paid at West Ham but whatever it was he was overpaid. Nothing heartless about it.

Just because they made a lot of money, doesn't mean they are happy or enviable. Neither has had a particularly good career considering their potential.

They've both had some notable highlights though - playing Barcelona off the park, scoring winning goals in World Cup Finals and playing lot of games for some really big clubs.

No, they've not achieved as much as they could have but they're hardly a pair of football's worst hard luck stories. Yet.

The football world is full of players who didn't reach their potential. Far more out their to feel sorry for than these two.

Besides, Gotze scored a winning goal in a World Cup Final.

Very few had the potential of these 2 IMO. I do think it is sad, just because both were an absolute joy to watch and football missed out on them mostly.

It really cant be easy having that ability and your body just fails you. A real shame.

Hard to feel sorry for a bloke that wasn't even willing to give up smoking despite being a professional footballer paid millions. I'm sure I would have made a load of mistakes if I'd been given fame and fortune in my early 20's, but smoking fags and a poor lifestyle doesn't really suggest he was willing to do the work necessary to make the most of his talent.

I know it’s a total joke.

He’s a much better winger than no.10 imo...

Beloved Legend. Always will wish him well.

Yea seemed like a genuinely good guy, who loved the club and "Got" Hibs. Used to love "The Fontaine of Knowledge" :greengrin

Agree, although there is some doubt about Wilshere’s dedication and professionalism.

I am not one to judge a player for one unfortunate incident or a photo of them looking worse for wear on a lads holiday, and he had bad injuries, but some Arsenal fans think he squandered his opportunity.

Thing is, I doubt it would have mattered. Could've been the most professional guy going, when you ankles are made of glass it makes no difference. David Gray is an example sadly.

What’s the SP on Jackson Irvine?

Is that a non-starter?

The only one that makes me sit up and still without a club IIRC?

Yeah, but I’m struggling to fit Murphy, Boyle, Nisbet and Doidge into a team that isn’t a bit outnumbered in the middle, yet I can’t decide which one of the 4 to drop.
