What a signing Murphy is going to turn out to be as he gets closer to full sharpness. Not a speed demon but uses his body and touch to just glide past players with ease and manoeuvre into dangerous positions. Add in clever passing and his proven goal scoring ability and I can see his quality really pushing us on this season.

I wasn't sure about his signing as I thought he might be finished. Nobody bar Burton Albion fans had seen anything of him for 2 years so we were unsure what version of Jamie Murphy we were getting. He looks deceptively quick, goes past players with ease, sees a pass early and has the ability to play difficult balls. He also seems to make the right decision 9 times out of 10 and we know he's got goals in him. I think he'll be a great signing.

Really good at taking on players which is a great thing to have. Good vision as well.

Failing to getting McCrorie could work out as a good thing with the recruitments of Murphy and Magennis instead.

I think we’d have went for Murphy anyway, he’s a replacement for Horgan and it looks like an upgrade too. I wasn’t sure about him either but looking like he’s got a lot to offer.

He's a great contrast to Boyle who gets his head down and runs.
Murphy on the other hand seems to glide and really unsettle defenders. Think he'll be a good addition and although Lewis played well, I can see Murphy doing well with a young, energetic player like Doig behind him.

:agree: I liked Horgan, but Murphy is certainly an upgrade.
I think we’ve managed upgrades with all our signings so far, to be honest. Maybe still to see the best of Wright, but our team looks as good as or better position for position than it did last season.

I thought he was a certainty to score yesterday, you could tell he really wanted it - obviously it wasn't to be, but his impact was superb and he orchestrated most of our attacking play.
Really excited about what's to come from him. Just a shame he's not a couple of years younger!

Shrewd signing.
He's not blessed with lightning pace but he has a football brain and a bit of trickery. He tired last night, which is understandable, but he was involved in everything in the 1st half.

It's strange becuase like you say he isn't lighting quick but he seems to just glide past players at times like they aren't there. A real class footballer.

100% agree. Plays with his head up and everything he did was geared towards getting the ball in the net. Massive upgrade on Horgan who I liked but always felt was "headless chicken" every other game. Was delighted to sign Murphy and excited to see him at full match fitness.

I’ll admit I didn’t want him. I know his dad and he is as staunch as they come. I had my green tinted specs on but JM played very well last night, long may it continue!

The Rangers fans were right to be dissspointed he left. Clearly a quality player. At 31 he's unlikely to move elsewhere now too.

Didn't really know enough about his recent form to comment before now, but I was very impressed by Murphy last night.
He's a different style to Boyle which provides a nice balance to the team.

Thought he would be a great signing but he is actually much better than I thought. Very intelligent player. He often drifts into the middle either giving us a numerical advantage or balancing up the numbers when we are outnumbered in there. He is calm and composed on the ball, as is Newell, which allows us to have a larger share of possession. Also when he has the ball at his feet he can slow play down as opposition players are wary of diving in.This allows other players to catch up with play or make runs. Like others have said he doesn’t have electric pace but seems to glide past people. He reminds me of a boxer who knows how to perfectly judge the distance between himself and his opponent. He teases them into making a move but it’s just out of reach and then he is gone.
Will be a very important player for us this season.

Excellent ball retention as well...really does help when we don’t just give the ball back every two seconds.
He played a couple of sublime passes for Boyle last night, perfect weight right into his path.
Looks a quality player that definitely adds a touch of class to the side.
I also think his style of play will see him play quite easily for the next 2 or 3 years fitness wise so looking forward to him being a regular non the side for the foreseeable.

Remember this guy was running riot at Burton on loan last season. Very good player and surprised we got him to be honest

Very good in possession and you never feel worried that he’ll give it away.
Could be very important for us this season

I thought he was fantastic last night. Man of the match.
I also get the feeling that the combination of Murphy, Newell and Boyle will prevent the bottom 8 teams from being able to stifle us easily.

His Wiki page says : On 29 August 2020, Murphy signed for fellow Scottish side Hibernian on a one-year loan, with an obligation of a further year on a permanent basis.
Should ‘obligation’ not read as ‘option’?

No. Option would mean we wouldn't have to sign him or give him a contract for next season.

He’s effectively not on loan, we’ve signed him for 2 years but he just can’t play against Rangers in the first year.

Ok. Hypothetical question. What happens if he has a poor season and we don't want to hold on to him or he doesn’t fancy another year? I can’t recall seeing this type of arrangement.

The same as any other player who is poor and is contracted for another season.
Aberdeen have exactly the same situation with McCrorie

Extremely clever player with a good footballing brain and very good feet. Was delighted we got him as I know he was capable of that and more last night. Will see him go from strength to strength this season with a run of games.

As a matter of interest would you have taken Alex Ferguson as our manager?

We or he are rooked. Rangers wanted us strengthened when we play Celtic but not when we play them. Similarly McCrorie to Aberdeen. Both have effectively been transferred but Rangers are controlling what they do this season. 10 in a row obsessed.

We missed out on McCrorie and signed Stephen McGinn instead. Little to do with Murphy or McGennis I’d have thought.

I was not only impressed with the quality of Murphys movement and passing but also how well he and Lewis combined on the left hand side of the pitch. Overlapping, underlapping, you’d have thought they’d played together for years.

I thought he’d be a decent signing for us. Based on his two starts, I think he’ll be better than that. Upgrade on Horgan, for sure.

I think how well Lewis plays often depends on who is in front of him. He is a very good short passer and always gives an option of a pass. He will work better with Murphy than Horgan as Daryl was more a solo dribbler. Allan was often in that area but he more often than not looked for the world cup ball. Doig may have a bit of a wait to get more games as this formation looks very balanced and with great combinations forming

The day I start wanting players capable of playing a defence splitting pass (world cup pass if you like) to make the simple pass I’ll no longer be watching an entertaining Hibs side.

Wee Lewis tried a World Cup ball on Friday and it pretty much resulted in a penalty to Hamilton.

Cup tie rules don't apply to the rest of last season's tournament. Not that Murphy was cup tied right enough.
