With Jack Ross promising mass changes ahead of 3 games in a week in the League Cup, combined with those away on national team duty it will be really interesting to see which fringe players get minutes. I'm going with

Barnes

Stevenson
McGregor
Gray
P McGinn

Mallan
Hallberg
Murphy
S McGinn

We want to win the game so a couple of game changers needed on the bench for late cameos. Even against this level of opposition we will need a bit of dig in midfield as they are likely to play a more "robust" style.

Mallan, Wright and Hallberg all need minutes for fitness and confidence, while Murphy faded a bit after a great first half and could probably do with more time on the pitch before we go to Ross County.
It would great if Magennis could be involved at some stage over the next week and we need to see if McGregor and Gray are still up to it since they are pretty much it in terms of defensive cover but the old boys ain't going to manage three games in six days are they? Do we have any young lads left that can play at right-back or centre-half?
Use Nisbet and Doidge with Gullan and Shanley to see what the latter pair are made of.

I think Cove and Forfar have plastic pitches, so that may be a consideration.

Wonder if Doidge might be rested given the mention of his back injury/problems last night and him not training beforehand.

Would start Nisbet and let him continue to build his confidence and goal tally.

Would definitely be giving key players a rest. Some of the teams above look pretty tasty, with a good blend of youth and experience.

Need to be careful to avoid an upset but we have some massive games ahead and don't really have the depth of squad to cope with injuries to key players.

For me Nisbet is not worth risking.

Anyone remember a pre season friendly we had against them in the late 70s?

We left at midnight from the Hibs club, most of us slept all the way there.

Not sure if i imagined it, but i think one of our fans ran on the pitch and slide tackled Willie Murray. :greengrin

I remember meeting all the players in some night club that night, and booking a b&b for 2, but probably had about 8 of us in it.

No idea about the score? :greengrin

From what they were saying on the radio players may need to travel individually if they are not getting tested for Covid. This only applies to games not including Premier League sides so at least he can get the bus. Stranraer travel to Annan Athletic and all the players will seemingly have to go up on their own.

As to the Hibs team I would be resting as many 1st team starters as we can get away with. The lower league teams will not have been training as much and are just starting so we should have a good margin to be able to play a lesser team against them. To big a season with a good chance of third to risk players at this stage. If we lost or drew then we may have to react and play a better side in the next cup games but for this one take no chances with Key players

Not a chance. If hibs with 11 changes can’t beat them it’s a travesty. Make as many changes as he can and we will still win the game. Fitness alone would be enough to get the job done, give players a rest no unnecessary risks to injuries

_________Doidge___Gullan

Give Magennis the first half and bring Hallberg on for the second.

Murphy could do with the game time to continue getting back up to speed after his injury lay-off as well.

Doidge has been getting frustrated at the lack of goals for himself despite contributing so much to the team so I would keep him in and hopefully he can bag a couple to get that out of his system then give Shanley a shot in the second half if we have a decent cushion of goals

Might be to our benefit cos if they still had grass pitches they would probably be very heavy and not suited to ageing legs. I think the old boys might be happier on plastic, as long as it is decent plastic.

GK coaches who are still physically able often register as players too, in case of some kind of emergency. Combe was available as a player for us too IIRC.
