Looks like he's in the full national team
🙌 Congratulations to Ryan Porteous on his senior @ScotlandNT call-up! 🏴
📈 The Hibernian Academy graduate has been a stand-out in our strong start to the new season - prompting national team manager Steve Clarke to promote him from the Scotland Under-21 squad. https://t.co/Uj6Mn1jNvp

With 3 games this break I'd imagine he will get some minutes at least. He's much better than Gallagher

Really poor from Steve Clarke tbh. Not really sure he's thought this through. Not thinking about Sevco fans mental health at this difficult time is just not on.
Well done Ryan.

That's great for Ryan and well deserved - he's got the potential to make that position his own for the next 10 years if he carries on developing as he has done.
Paul Hanlon can consider himself unlucky not to get a call up based on his form this season as well.

Steve Clarke just confirmed that in interview.
Taking him into squad to have a look at him in training. Added that he looked very good last time he was with them and has had an outstanding start to the season

Agreed, but I think it’s a mistake. Can’t think of another Scottish central defender so comfortable on the ball. His age shouldn’t matter, who was the guy who played for Killie in the 5-1 final who ended up being capped at an age older than Hanlon ? Greer(sp) maybe ?

I often wonder what they see missing in Paul ..do they feel he is not physical enough for that level ? Too slow ? Can’t imagine the latter ...certainly been overlooked which is a shame ..

The physicality I might have agreed with a few years ago, definitely not now. And definitely not pace, especially considering how many caps Berra got.

He was called up once, by Malky Mackay for a game at Pittodrie.
His Granny was pretty ill at the time but his family went up at short notice, he was an unused sub.

I thought it was a joke he never got on, perfect opportunity to give him a chance that night.

Shocking treatment of him, great opportunity to see what he had and Mackay left him on the bench. With some of the dross capped at the back, Paul can feel aggrieved at not getting a few caps in his career.

Agreed. The issue Paul has had is not lack of ability, its lack of support within the media. He needed a cheerleader to constantly tout him. Remember that big dumpling Brian Martin at Motherwell got capped because chick Hun and the daily record pretty much had a campaign to make it happen!!

I dont think there are many left that would disagree with you. I just think it's too late for him. We have had some total imposters in those positions over the last 10 years.

The suspension is competition specific for U21 games only as per Clarke during his interview so dare say he could play IF need be. Did should more like he was being integrated into the squad for the future

How physical is international football?
Not very I think.
The fact Hanlon as the best Scottish footballing centre half in the country over the last seven or eight years has never won a cap kind of tells its own story as to why the national team is a joke.

I don’t think so, he’s only a year older, and better player, than Gallagher at Motherwell. Hanlons started the season well, and if he keeps it up he’ll get a call up.

You just know that after the play off semi final there will be a swathe of call offs when big clubs want their boys back fit. Wouldn't rule out him playing in the third game. Might also depend whether we play 3 at the back.
I mean when did David weir start getting regularcall ups to the Squad, don't think it's over for Paul. I thin Porteous has a nasty streak the national squad has been sorely missing at centrehalf

Weir was 27 when he made his Scotland debut..not fully Over for Paul, but at a time when we are struggling for CH’s, the fact he is not being selected suggests they have ruled him out.

Hanlon is deserving of a call up and being in the squad based on this season IMO, as he was when he was in similar form in the 17/18 season. He’s not a long term answer though, so much as I like him I think we need to try and bed in guys like Porteous.
I do think there’s an element of double standards/green tinted glasses though, and they likely aren’t the same people. However is calling Hanlon up now, or at any point in the past, any different to the criticism some gave Clarke for calling up the likes of O’Donnell & Brophy when they were in form for a Killie side doing well.

Always amazed there isn’t more transfer speculation around Porteous. Seems to me he has been one of the top young players for a couple of seasons now, bit rash at times but still learning. Good that Hibs have his contract sorted for a few years anyway.
